Devils 11/12 line combos

161 posts in this topic

I personally want to see a third line of Rolston - Elias - Tedenby. I believe force feeding Tedenby into a more defensive role will do wonders for his game. The faster we can somehow develop him into a PK'er the less likely we will be stuck in the basement for short handed goals.

Josefson and Kovalchuk seems to be the obvious choice for a 2nd line with Palmieri on the right side. We may need to hide this line a little bit cause I truely don't think Josefson can carry the cycle on his own to create possesion. Palmieri and Kovalchuk lack in that department. Josefson is smart enough to get most out of Kovalchuk. Should be a fun line to watch on the rush.

Depending on cap cuts, why not use Zubrus, Zajac and Parise together, it should be dominant against most lines.

I think putting Zubrus with Elias and Rolston and putting Teddy with Zajac and Parise would have the same effect on Teddy's defenseive game. I think that if he plays on the Parise-Zajac line he will still be forced to learn a defensive game while still playing the the maximum of his offensive capabilities.

Looking at capgeek, Volchenkov, Tallinder and Greene will be with our team for the 2012-13 season. We must assume Urbom, Larrson and Fayne should be there as well. Does this seem like the time to move White to fix cap problems and get a great return after one of his better seasons....just food for thought.

Yes, I don't really feel like White is needed. IMO, you can bury him in the minors for a year if you can't find a trading partner.

White is very tradable at the moment and would probably get a 1st or a 2nd with a good prospect.

Just to throw it out there:

Kovalchuk Zajac Palmieri

Rolston Elias Zubrus

Parise Josefson Tedenby

Henrique Steckel Clarkson

Extras: Pelley

Fayne Talliner

White Volchenkov

Greene Larsson

Extras: Taormina, Salvador

I think Salvador is likely going to be Devils subtraction.

I disagree, and I love White. He is a very good shut down defender, but I think you are overvaluing him. I think a 2nd would be a good bet. Also, I think Merrill needs to be included in that list with Larsson, Fayne and Urbom

I like a combo of the last couple.

Parise-Zajac-Tedenby

Kovalchuk-Josefson-Palmieri

Rolston-Elias-Zubrus

Zharkov-Steckel-Clarkson

They are saying Josefson put some muscle on since last season, it might be nice to see him play stronger on the puck this year.

Also, I really like Zharkov, he showed a lot of offensive abilities in his few games last season.

I'm not the biggest White fan, I just don't think he lived up to the hype (although undeserved hype) from when he came in but I could deal with him one more year until he's off the books, even if it's just as another veteran mentor to the younger d.

When you see guys like White -- it really drives it home how very much #3 deserves to be in the rafters.

I love White and I agree he has never really brought anything specific to the table. Just vanilla defence - which is not a bad thing. :noclue:

I don't think you'd get a 1st or 2nd for White...maybe a 3rd. Think about your argument though, if we have a defenseman on the team who is worth a 1st or a 2nd with a good prospect, wouldn't he be more valuable on our roster as opposed to another team's?

I think White is under* rated, sure he makes mistakes from time to time but so do most other players. White is a real steady shutdown defenseman, even Marty said you can't have enough White/Salvador/Volchenkov type players on the team. Besides White is the only D on our roster who has won a cup and he has a no trade clause, I don't think he's going anywhere.

Just for fun - what about this:

Parise - Zajac - Elias (matched against other teams top line. Elias and Zajac both very responsible on defense)

Kovalchuk - Zubrus - Clarkson (line 2 to match other teams checking line)

Tedenby - Josefson - Rolston (3rd line)

Pelley - Steckel - Zharkov (4th line)

feel free to switch Clarkson and Rolston above.

White - Volchenkov

Fayne - Tallinder

Taormina - #6

did you see what regehr got back? yeah, this isn't happening. i could see a 2nd being the return.

and why would NJ do this? we don't have sufficient defensive depth that we can get rid of white. if nothing changes on the devils' blueline, i think white will depart at the end of the year and that will be that.

White is a UFA at seasons end, his value goes up as his salary goes down. White would be as valuable a rental as Arnott at the very least. At least White is coming off a great season. I see plenty of defensive depth on our blueline with or without Larsson this season. I would be confident Urbom is ready this camp. Who knows where Gelinas is at the moment, probably not ready but who knows. We have a lot of defensmen who with good camps could be a #6 or #7.

White has a NTC. Also I don't think the Devils are that deep on Defense so that they can trade White (I don't think Larsson or Salvador will be on the team though). All of us are projecting all of the defensemen to pan out, but really who know what will happen. Fraser could very well prove more useful than Corrente, Taormina might only be able to cut it as a 7th dman/pp specialist.

A lot of questions to be answered on D before we consider moving White, especially because White/Volchenkov proved quite effective in the 2nd half of the year.

disagree. arnott is a center. teams always need centers.

the problem is, and the issue i raised when greene was to be re-signed, is that if you trade white, you have greene, tallinder, and volchenkov as the only veterans. that's a lot of ice time that'd be going to young players, especially when one veteran got injured. i am pretty confident that fayne can handle top 4 minutes and that guys like taormina and urbom won't disappoint on the back end. but still, i think another year is needed to truly evaluate how good these guys will be. white's a UFA at season's end and i don't see a spot for him in 2012-13, but i definitely see a spot for him now.

I seriously hope that changes come trade deadline. A seriously strong top 2 rounds in this years draft....another 2nd could go a long way.

or it could, like most 2nd round draft picks, amount to absolutely nothing. colin white is definitely more valuable to the devils than a 2nd round pick. i mean, this notion is HFery at its worst - 'all prospects will pan out, veterans suck, i hope we get a draft pick for this sucky veteran, who will turn into a prospect, who will pan out'

The more 20% chances you have, the more often you have something in the minors worthwhile.

except there's a high chance that colin white's one remaining season will be more valuable than that 2nd round pick will be in his entire career.

White-taormina

I'm bored so my ideal scenerio. David Clarkson is traded to some team for a 3rd.

Zach Parise - Travis Zajac - Dainius Zubrus

Ilya Kovalchuk - Jacob Josefson - Nick Palmieri

Brian Rolston - Patrik Elias - Mattias Tedenby

Vladmir Zharkov - David Steckel - Eric Boulton

Cam Janssen

Henrik Tallinder - Mark Fayne

Colin White - Adam Larsson

Andy Greene - Anton Volchenkov

Matt Taormina

Martin Brodeur

Johan Hedberg

PP1

Ilya Kovalchuk - Travis Zajac - Zach Parise

Mark Fayne - Brian Rolston

PP2

Dainius Zubrus - Jacob Josefson - Mattias Tedenby

Adam Larsson - Patrik Elias

PK1

Zach Parise - Travis Zajac

Anton Volchenkov - Colin White

PK2

Patrik Elias - Brian Rolston/Vladmir Zharkov

Henrik Tallinder - Angy Greene

Haven't decided what PP I would like run. If Taormina were to make the team he would be the ideal center piece in the 1 - 3 - 1 PP. Larsson just can't be counted on to run that PP from the point, it is a little too much to ask of him. If he could:

-------Zubrus-------

--------------------

Kov-----Tao----Parise

---------------------

-------Larsson---------

Probably a little risky

Glad to see someone say this. Very true, odds of picking an NHLer in the 2nd round are not good. Odds are between 66-75% that the draft pick will never become a meaningful player depending on if it is a high or low 2nd. I'd rather make a Stanley Cup run with Colin White than give him away for a 30% chance at a meaningful player years from now.
