Just imagine a sold out rock full of devils fans

135 posts in this topic

I feel disgusted watching I could only imagine how it feels being at the game. I refuse to ever go to another Rangers Devils game at Prudential Center again. It's a complete joke. It's a shame because I just remember how loud the Medowlands was. Huge mistake moving to Newark. You watch old games on YouTube or when they play them on MSG and there's a 100% different feel when the games took place in the old arena. The only game I've been to this year is Flyers Devils in Philly, they won and believe it or not a decent amount of rowdy Devils fans showed up.

The mistake wasn't moving to Newark. It was that or watch the team in Winnipeg, KC or wherever else.

The mistake was the Devils misjudging the overall fanbase and support once they moved to Newark.

They build a beautiful state of the art facility in a city where's there's an atmosphere before and after games they never had at the dump. Combine that with trying to build an identity of "team/NJ" in the state's largest city and an attempt in urban revitaliztion in a city in dire need of it.

What they got instead was a bunch of suburban fans afraid of their own shadow, the same fairweather fans as CAA, a down economy, a team that hasn't made a peep in the playoffs since 2007 and many questions involving player personnel and ownership/financial issues going forward.

The only bright spot is that the team marketing has much improved, which in all actuality really isn't saying alot, but they are trying and they are doing different things and you can't jump on them for that.

Also, you not coming games is the dumbest protest I've ever seen. People like you cause this, FYI.

Haha you must have been sitting by me because my section and the one over had a ton of Devils fans.. To be honest, their fans were extremely tame that night compared to other times I've seen games there and just like the Ranger game, winning helps.

But yeah that night was a decent invasion of Philly

Yea I was with my girlfriend (huge Flyers fan) and she was starting to feel bad for me because the Devils had like a 4 game losing streak going into the game and they were losing 2-0. Little did she know the Devils would end up winning! That game was sick! Saw a penalty shot, 2-0 comeback, awesome win in the SO. But Flyers fans are retarded..there was literally a Flyers on Flyers fan fight in front of me. They were winning 2-1 at the time too. I was like wtf? My seats were terrible..last row up top 208 or something, my back was against the wall, but there were sweet hooks you could put your jacket on haha.

I don't like to go to philly anymore. We used to get a lot of people there, now we get less than one hundred. It's a hostile environment (they won't do anything to you though). I hate their fans but I wish we had a hostile environment like that. Visitors in their arena do not feel welcomed. We lay out the damn welcome mat for visitors in our arena. sh!t, come take it over Montreal, Philly, and Rangers.

Yea it is WAY too comfortable of an environment for the visiting fans. Ive even seen Islander fans get a little nutty in Newark. Theres just something about the arena that isn't intimidated. Maybe because it's so nice inside? lol I dunno but it fvcking sucks and I hate it. Am I wrong in saying the old Continental Airlines Arena was much better?

I come to games just not Ranger Devil games. I can't. I get too mad. I'm 0-5..never seen a win vs the Rangers. I've been kicked out of MSG twice and have been completely humiliated in Newark. I know I can't control myself and I'm afraid I will eventually end up assaulting someone. I'm not kidding. So I just don't go. Same thing with Yankees Red Sox games. I refuse to ever go to one because I know I would do something stupid. I'm 27 and I can't afford to lose my career because of something stupid like that. I wish I wasn't immature like that but I just can't help it.

Just curious what did you do to get kicked out of MSG twice? Lol

Just curious what did you do to get kicked out of MSG twice? Lol

Let me go into detail so I can give you a real feel for what happened...

First game was a few years ago, Devils were down 1-0 and Parise tied it...naturally I got up and cheered..had real good seats.

All the sudden people behind me are telling me to "shut the fvck up and sit down."

I turn around and to say a few tough guy things of my own ya know, Bla bla bla...

Eventually Devils take a 2-1 lead and now these people are extremely angry.

They start throwing food at me.

All of this sucked majorly because I was with my best friend, his dad, and his dads best friend (who were all Ranger fans).

As usual the Devils ended up losing 3-2 on some sketchy goal..I think a Ranger's player actually slid into the goal with the puck lying on his leg or something, it was so lame..but before the end of the game these people were non stop throwing things at me. Security did NOTHING.

I ended up getting up and made my way towards the seats where it was coming from and I just challenged them all to either say the crap they were talking to my face or to take a walk out side with me.

Security saw that happen, grabbed me and escorted me out.

Second game was February 2010.

I had horrible seats but the situation was very similar.

A girl I was seeing at the time had free tickets she got from a season ticket holder at her job. To the minute I sat down, before the game even began, a gentleman with a Rangers jersey comes up to the girl I was with (they knew each other) and says, "I heard you brought a Devils fan, which one is he I'm going to kick his ass."

The guy knew I was the Devils fan because the only other guy we were with had a Rags jersey on.

So, due to the fact I'm not a bitch..I get up and begin to tell the guy that I was the Devils fan and that I was 100% certain he wasn't going to lay hands on me.

Security saw the confrontation and warned us.

This douche ended up sitting RIGHT behind me.

So, as usual the Devils are getting their ass kicked. Three very quick goals are scored. The Devils are down 3-0 before I could even blink and that was just the end of it.

Constant sh!t talking from Ranger fans and when the Devils broke the shut out in the third I thought it was a perfect time to get up and cheer for my team.

I added comments such as "NOOOO SHUT OUT, NOOOO." So..I kinda asked for it, but once again objects started being thrown at me. This time the objects were plastic bottles, some empty some half full with beer.

This was all happening from behind me again so I did the same thing. I got up and started heading towards them, security stopped me and started escorting me out. As I was leaving my hands were placed behind my back and a Rangers fan tripped me.

During the whole thing the security guard let me go and I ended up getting a left jab in on the tool bag that did it.

That made the entire section VERY angry to say the least. More security was called over and I was escorted out of the building. No charges were filed.

So pretty much, fvck MSG and their scumbag coward Ranger fans. I'm not afraid of them. I'll just never go back because I know something bad will happen again.

Blame the fans not the arena. Wells Fargo(from what I hear) is MUCH nicer than the Spectrum yet it still has a hostile environment.

Again we allow this sh!t to happen. Cheap tickets added with an apathetic crowds breeds this type of thing. Devils fans just need to show up and when they do just make it hard for the other teams and their fans (just don't go too far or do anything stupid, especially when kids are around)

What I don't get it why should any arena be unwelcoming to a fan of the opposing team?

Espeically if they are just there to have a good time.

Now if they are being a$$holes that's different, but one should assume 95% of visiting fans aren't there to start trouble.

the situation sucks... but its the fans fault really

if they could fill the arena and get season tickets there would be less Rags fans able to get seats. simple.

I agree, but Rangers fans DEFINITELY go there to start trouble.

Problem is there are opposing teams' fans who do like to start trouble. The main 3 are Philly, NYR and Montreal. If the Penguins, Red Wings, Hawks or Bruins came to town I'd totally agree but it's not the case with those 3 I mentioned.

I mean, on the train ride back from the Rock versus the Caps, some Rags fans returning from the winter sham preview tried talking sh!t to me. I'm like come on, I'm walking around here with a 13 year old, ya really think I'm gonna engage in bs ?

I understand it's frustrating. I agree with you. But the only way to fight it is to show up and fill our house. We don't need to be a$$holes to opposing fans are start fights and sh!t. But, I encourage pointing, laughing, and making fun of them as well as getting as loud as possible supporting the Devils.

See that's what pisses me off the most about Rags fans. They'll talk sh!t to a father who's with his wife and kid but won't do sh!t when it's three Devils fans who just boarded the train from Elizabeth, NJ. They're fvcking cowards. They have a lot of courage until you step up to them. Then they say, "You can beat me up, but what about the entire section?!" Lol..trust me, that happened.

I'm just like... Eh I got a career and it's worth more than your words so I'm not about to lay a finger on anyone (unless struck first.) So they can talk all the sh!t they want but hey, I've been alive for almost 22 years and I can say with 100% confidence that in that timespan my team has given me way more reasons to be happy than theirs. So they can pump their chests and talk smack but for me it goes in one ear out the other.

I hate to say this but I've been to the Rock for 3 games and now have been to Nashville twice, the atmosphere in Nashville is great, inside and outside the arena. As a Tennessee resident now, I'm glad to see Nashville getting into hockey like they are. Problem with the Devils attendance right now is the area is still not up to par with a Nashville type area, great downtown arena with resturants, bars, etc. to draw the casual fans to games.

Inside is great too, fans are really into it. It seems much different than the Rock. Maybe that's due some to the Fire and Ice lounges. But I'm no expert so I'm not sure how to increase the attendance except for the team to take ideas from other teams, it never hurts.

I agree with Rags and Flyers, but not Habs. They're loud, they invade the arena, and they love their team, but they're not there to start trouble. I've had nothing but positive interactions with them. And I've had bad interactions with other fans.

I was too young to really remember the crowds back at CAA, but did the Devils have similar issues there? Or was it generally packed? Then again, the Devils were at their best for the later parts of their stay at CAA.

this is the devils we're talking about. of course it wasn't packed! in fact, when the devils played the rangers and flyers there would tons of opposing fans in the building. same with the pens and the islanders. the only invasion i don't really remember is montreal, and i think that's because they just discovered the wheel up in quebec. let's not forget that when the devils played the leafs in the playoffs there were tons of leafs fans in the building.

the only major difference with the rangers is the sweet spot from 1998-2003. there would be tons of ranger fans at caa but the rangers never won so they were quiet. and when i say they rangers never won, i mean literally never won. the devils had something like a 23 games unbeaten streak against them.

Yeah, Ranger and Phailure fans invaded CAA too, this is nothing new. The only difference is we always beat the piss out of those teams in the CAA days, so they wouldn't say sh!t because they couldn't. Since we moved to the Rock, we haven't been nearly as successful against the Rags and Phailures, so their fans have shown up in larger numbers, with considerably bigger beer muscles. It sucks, but if the Devils start beating these a$$holes again, it'll go back to being the way it was in the CAA days.

i actually think it's more rags fans and fewer flyer fans in the rock. we've just sucked against the flyers since moving so you just notice the flyer fans more. in caa they would make up 30% of the crowd. similar to the rags. no way are there anywhere near that many flyer fans at the rock. the canadiens bring in more fans than the flyers.

You're right for the most part- except when we play the Phailures on a weekend, not as many of their fans show up at the Rock as they did at the CAA (it seems if we play them on a Saturday night, they still have a decent number of fans come up). The CAA was right off the Turnpike, so access for Phailure fans driving up was a little easier because it was a straight shot north. The Rock is a little tougher for mass numbers of Phailure fans to get to on a weeknight.
