Boston's Ugly side.

Disgraceful. They should be ashamed of themselves and the Bruins should make a public statement saying how they are disgusted in their fans.

There's one thing to be an idiot ... There's plenty of those out there, but to be a VOCAL Racist idiot that right there deserves a Knock Out!

Ugly as it is, I would say it shows Boston's idiotic side. I'm sure that there would be fans in every city who would have those thoughts if their team was in Boston's position. That's bad enough. But the fact that you broadcast it to the entire world on Twitter? It even looks like some of those morons actually have their picture displayed with the comments.

These people are in for a very rude awakening if they're ever on the end of some kind of discrimination lawsuit. They could even be fired by their employer for fear of something like that.

People never cease to amaze me.

+1. Boston has a long history of racism with its sports teams. The Red Sox were the last team to integrate and many black athletes who've played there have experienced the pervasive racism throughout the city's sporting society. While many places, including NJ, would have fans saying the same thing as some of those idiots if Ward had scored the game winner on their team in a Game 7 OT, the difference is most of the racists in the other cities wouldn't be so open about it.

Another unfortunate part of this story: It is receiving a small amount national attention (more than the zero for most hockey news), and it is being extrapolated to hockey fans in general. Hockey is the least racially diverse of the regularly televised sports. It has fans that like fights. Incidents like this one feed into negative stereotypes about us and discourage outsiders from getting into the sport.

It really shouldn't receive national attention. 40 people on twitter, which anyone can use nowadays, shouldn't and doesn't represent a whole city.

Statement from the Boston Bruins:

"The Bruins are very disappointed by the racist comments that were made following the game last night. These classless, ignorant views are in no way a reflection of anyone associated with the Bruins organization."

"Shouldn't" isn't the same thing as "won't".

Exhibit A

From that article said by Ted Leonsis...

"What these people have said and done is unforgivable. I hope they are now publicly identified and pay a huge price for their beliefs," he said. "There should be zero tolerance for this kind of hate mongering.

Completely disagree with this and he's blowing it out of proportion. These people should pay a huge price for their beliefs? What a joke. Nice to see the PC police are out in full force with some of this stuff.

Inartfully stated, but correct in principle. You want to say that kind of stuff and publicly disseminate it, don't be shocked if your employer gets a hold of it and summarily fires you.

It's good the Bruins denounced the comments, but by doing so, they called more attention to it. Not neccassary. Morons like that should be ignored. It's the strongest statement you can make.

Horrible that it happened and racism has no place anywhere. I'm not making excuses for the tweets but I wouldn't be shocked if the majority of them had more to do with alcohol consumption than real racism.
