Election Night Coverage (radio)

74 posts in this topic

So what AM or FM stations are going to give good coverage tomorrow night (assuming I'm still without power)? If 770 is my only option I give up but I'd rather not deal with Hannity.

I'm going to be playing Halo 4 in lieu of watching election coverage. All I need to know is who is winning, not some talking head's take on things.

  • And so it begins. 6 states closed polls at 7:00 EST
  • Update: 9 states finished voting now. Just waiting for results.
  • Edit: I stepped out to get food. 25 states done, results coming in.
  • Big turnout in some important states is delaying results. People waiting in line to vote (as long as they joined the queue before the polls closed, they get to stay in line and vote) are delaying many important districts from reporting.
  • Every state from N Dakota down to Texas and eastward is now done (except quirky old Iowa), but many are close or getting results slowly.
  • No surprise as New Jersey goes Democrat-Democrat for President and Senate.
  • Florida incredibly close right now. 78% reporting, and the difference is only 193 votes!
  • Interesting to see West Virginia and Indiana easily go to Gov. Romney, yet also elect Democrats to their senate seats. In the Indiana case, the GOP lost a seat that they had held.
  • And Claire McCaskille, an extremely vulnerable Democratic Senator, manages to hold onto her seat. Republicans have to be wondering what could have been if Todd Akin had just stuck to an economic message. Highly likely the Dems will hold control of the Senate for another 2 years now (with pickups in CT, MA, and IN).
  • California just came in and of course pushed Obama's total sky-high. As we knew before the election, if the Pres. gets Ohio or Florida, this election is over, and if he gets Virginia, then it's nearly done.
  • Romney has taken North Carolina away from Obama. This was a must-have for the Gov.
  • "As goes Ohio, so goes the Country" The Buckeye State was just put in the President's column, thereby earning him 4 more years.

OBAMA *Winner*__ ROMNEY

283 ---------------- 203

All remaining states except Alaska will be closed by 11 EST. Unless swing states like Virginia and Ohio are called by then, we will still not know the winner at that point.

Important result: Republicans retain their majority in the House of Representatives.

Second Important result: Democrats retain their control of the Senate.

So government remains basically unchanged.

I was totally wrong calling a Romney landslide. Almost over.

Lost a little faith in the country tonight. People will vote for whoever gives them the most stuff.

Thought I voted for Romney, I will not promise or declare that I will move out of the country if Obama wins.

This is a stark contrast to most of my Facebook friends who declared earlier in the night that they will move out of the country if Romney wins

I don't get it. Are you unsure?

*Edit: Should have read that twice. Obvious typo

Game, set, match.

Obama takes Ohio and Iowa. Projected to win. VA and Florida don't even matter.

Obama won, there is no way Romney gets OH and FLA. Lets hope that this country can resume prosperity

Ohio gap is currently ~30k, or 0.7% of the vote. if it shrinks down to 0.5% it triggers a recount... networks may have jumped the gun a little bit.

Obama is also winning VA, FL, NV, and CO at this moment. Even if Ohio needs to be recounted, he takes two of NV and Colorado (both are likely) or FL alone and its still over. The math is not there for Romney.

Romney is not up in any of the battleground states.

This is not a nail-biter other than popular vote (and that gap is closing and is less than 200K). The polls were right.

Florida is another recount in the works, VA has not been decided yet.

NV and CO aren't enough if FL, VA and OH are all being recounted, but let's see how the night plays out.

Edit: ok nevermind, CO and NV (assuming Obama takes it) is enough given the rest of the map is basically settled. Carry on.

Um. Yes. It is.

Do it yourself.

Without Ohio, Obama leads 257 to 191. Colorado and Nevada put him to 272.

Romney could sweep FL, OH, VA, and NC and still lose.

CBS just called Colorado for Obama.

290 total acc to them (also gave him NV).

This is not even going to be that close electorally if Obama gets FL.

I never thought that you seriously believed this; that it was just your wish. Was I wrong?

Lost a little faith in the country tonight. People will vote for whoever gives them the most stuff.

To some extent, this is true. Ohio was a crucial state, and the auto bailout sounds like it was the tipping issue there. But this is the traditional downfall of democracy: the populace elects candidates who tell them what they want to hear rather than tell them what they are going to have to do.

Ohio gap is currently ~30k, or 0.7% of the vote. if it shrinks down to 0.5% it triggers a recount... networks may have jumped the gun a little bit.

I believe that they did this because the overwhelming majority of precincts left to report were in Democrat areas rather than Republican ones.

True enough, that was foxnews and Nate Silvers justifications as well.

And speaking of Silver, this is a great night for him. After getting eviscerated the last few days by popular pundits when his prediction model showed Obama pulling away he is clearly vindicated. If VA goes to Obama he will have called 97 out of 98 states correctly, the two states that were literal coin tosses, getting DC twice, and nebraska's 2nd district in 2008. Outstanding work done by him. I hope this is a real start to the change in the way we approach elections and focus less on what some idiot talking head babbles on about and more about facts and math,

Marijuana legalization passes in Washington, Colorado. Marriage equality in Maryland, Maine, AND Minnesota. Joe Walsh is out. Mourdock and Akin lose. Bachmann and West look like they're going to win, but its close and recounts likely. WEST loses!

Almost a perfect night.

And Obama just took VA. Over 300 electoral votes pretty much assured WITHOUT FL.

Only changes from 08 map look to be IN and NC, with FL left to decide.

And Romney has conceded. Called Obama. Speech shortly.

edit:

Classy speech by Mitt.

The GOP got spanked tonight.
