Before 7 PM games

5 posts in this topic

I read yesterday that the Devils are 4-8-1 including playoffs since October 2011 and 1-6-1 this season in games that start before 7 PM. Why do you think that is?

I think it must be player preparation before the games. They don't have enough time in the afternoon games.  What do you think?

I think it's the same case as it is with anyone in any job. Athlete's bodies get used to a rhythm and pattern, not to mention food and meals at a certain time, and of a certain type. Our bodies are like a machine and a clock. These players' bodies are optimized to get to work at 7PM, especially after the series of meals the athlete prepares himself with during the day (which I've heard is a pretty limited series of choices for Devils players, by Lou's request).

Obviously that would affect EVERYONE and players of both teams, and wouldn't give one team or the other "advantage" per se. But, I'm curious to see the records of upper-table teams in 12:30PM or 2PM games. Maybe neither team is sharp for these games, but the better more structured team (and New Jersey's system is extremely structured) becomes more vulnerable to the bounces or grit a less skilled team could be running on. Maybe their concentration isn't all there, so the less structured team can capitalize and make their breaks.

I don't really consider 6PM games to be matinee...

I chose 5PM ET  (2PM starts out West)    and earlier...  here is how last year played out.

this sounds pretty legit. The devils have an extremely structure system and when they can't put the effort in it we don't stand a chance to create anything.
