[Official] Damien Brunner signed to multi-year deal

653 posts in this topic

so many possibilities, maybe Brunner knows he won't get the money he want anywhere but that Lou told him, once we signed Henrique and that we moved another guy we could offer you this much which is the best we can do but not until we made a move. You can wait or see what else is out there. And maybe this is the part where Lou's offer and situation was the best in his opinion and that he's willing to wait.

So thats absolutely speculative on my part, but again its not impossible.

i think we're to the point where free agents are starting to realize that they were asking for too much and that they have to rethink their plans and lower their expectations. And Lou is pretty good at catching those guys usually

Maybe it finally hit him that asking for 4-5 million based on 44 games of NHL experience may have been a bit far fetched. You're not gonna get those deals unless you get them offered the first week of free agency.

Also, I love how I tell myself every week or so that I'm over worrying about them signing Brunner, and then the second this thread gets some more action, I'm all in again. Damn boring summer lol

he's not asking 4-5 millions he's asking 3 / 3.5m

Oh my bad. Was the term 4-5 years then? All the fake twitter reports are just all jumbled in my head and I forget which is which now.

Do you know this for a fact?

Another thing to keep in mind is that there has been very little talk about Grabovski, too. Maybe Brunner just needs some time to make up his mind.

Says he was looking for multiyear at  3.5 per year. Wings offered 2 years at 2.5. Honestly, not sure what sort of crack Brunner is smoking to think he is worth 3.5.

It's not that ridiculous. He's a player, who while only having one season in the NHL, is not "developing", except for having to adjust to the NA game. The biggest question for me is whether or not his season was so good only because he was an unknown and know that he's on people's radars, things could be different. If he was any other player at the same age, he'd get $3.5 and multiple years no problem. I don't think it's completely unreasonable for him to ask for it. I wouldn't pay more than $3M per.

I don't think $3-3,5M a year for this guy is unreasonable at all.. Might turn out to be a steal even.

Sure. I get that it might be a steal. But I feel teams would see that he 1) hasn't played in the NHL even a full season and 2) some of the production was definitely due to playing on a pretty stacked line. I think Detroits offer is very fair. Prove yourself some more and then we'll see about a higher multiyear deal.

Honestly, I'd love to see some D moved and both him and Henrique signed. I just think he may be looking for too much and pricing himself out (hence the crack smoking comment).

Every time I read this thread's headline I think we've signed Jamie Langenbrunner. If we do sign Brunner we can save a few bucks and just put duct tape over the Langen on some old Langs jerseys.

Do we want to take a chance with this unknown player I say yes but the price must be right. No Panic Lou, he is worth $3 M for 3 years. Would I go $3.5 yes. However we need another wing in the $3 -4 M package to complete the deal with Henrique signing as well. IMO we will then be competitive in the East. Henrique is driving Lou nuts and I don't blame Henrique, No team will offer him $4.5 M so it up to Lou to come up with a short term and a long term and I doubt that Lou can do  long term deal.

That jersey is awesome! Lol would be classic if they ever allowed something like that! :)

News on Brunner has really died down.

Manta's Log: Day 20.

Got an updated message from a good source that said: "there was no update".

I wonder if TG wakes up every morning, goes to his phone, calls Brunner's agent and is like "anything!?" and then the agent obviously comes back every time with "No, Tom". And I imagine this has gone on the duration of this report being out.

just read french reports saying that we offered a little more than the Red Wings but not 3m but that Brunner declined and that he really want 3m and wouldnt take less. I guess the Coyotes and the Sabres got in the mix and are negotiating.

Haha....i have NO idea............!!

That's why I'm okay with the waiting game. I've always loved Lou's insistence on paying players what he thinks they're worth. Even if the money isn't hugely different, I don't want the Devils changing their precedent toward free agency.

I watched a lil of the hawks/wings game this morning. great forechecker. babcock had him on 2nd line, he looked very good. speedy guy. hopefully after this "sale" (of dev's) is complete, lou will sign him.

I'm sure Henrique deal has been negotiated and done, and will be signed when the ink is wet on sale as well.
