not that t I watch a ton of buffalo's games and maybe it could be that the team just stinks but miller doesn't scare me. He seems like a bit if a head case and could turn into bryz 2.0 for them.

that often is the consensus but realize his numbers are skewed by a terrible defense for years. Ya he does lose his temper but he's been pretty solid for years in this league-unlike Bryz

we've been hearing he same thing about the oilers for 3 years now and where has it got them. Youth does not win hockey games. In fact a lot of times it loses them.

Now if they are able to package and flip those prospects for veteran upgrades yes they could become a legitimate playoff contender.

It worked for Pitt... granted they got some generational players out of it, but still.

this is true, and it's probably an exception to the rule.

I just get frustrated when people hype a teams prospect pool, when the reality is they sucked a long time to get those prospects, they still suck now and the likelihood is if they depend solely on those prospects they will probably suck in the future.

I mean look at the teams that are ranked as having the best prospects- Minn, fla, nyi, edm, buf. What have those teams done in the past decade to make me say "boy I wish I was in their shoes moving forward."

Meanwhile teams that never rank that high on those prospect lists have their sights set on what's important- wins - and consistently compete for the cup, because they're not obsessed with getting younger and always building for next year.

I saw this. I'd prefer Downie over Talbot personally. But he has been the focus of some "dirty plays" as of late. I thought he fit in well there.

I dont know if Roy has a say in who comes and who goes, but he seems like the kind of guy that would just say "get the eff out of here"

I'm not sure I understand the point of that trade.

For Colorado at least they get an experience vet with multiple years on his deal. Not sure what Philly was thinking. Probably that he fits the broad st bully mentality.

Very good trade for Philly. Downie is still a solid 2nd/3rd liner, Talbot is washed up and useless.

This Varlamov situation is also getting mighty interesting. Some very disturbing details are coming from the girlfriend, how will the team go on with business when he returns to the roster, and how about Russia calling out the U.S. and saying it is a conspiracy to keep him out of the Olympics! :doh1:

Chicago?

maybe I didn't make my opinion clear in the prior post.

Chicago and Pittsburgh (and probably a few other teams in the history of the league) hit back to back winners in their high draft picks, which gave them instant or near instant playoff contention.

But how long did it take them to get there? Pretty darn near a decade or more of losing. And then you have teams constantly building for the future and the future never comes. How many times did Edmonton supposedly hit in their draft picks in the last 5 years? Buffalo? Florida? Minnesota?

To value a future pick or prospect or "potential to win" rather than going for it in the short term more often than not results in continued failure.

In a free agency league, you don't need to build a team with a 5 or 10 year plan. Most successful gms realize this.

Flyers look really bad.

A lot of talent on that team.  Hopefully the Devils don't have a let down.

How come Ottawa gives up so many shots?

Bobby Ryan scores just as I typed that.  Man Bobby Ryan would look so good on the Devils.

Emery just skated the length of the ice and beat down Holtby.

I always worry when we face a team right after they get blown out.

Holtby clearly didn't want to go but give him credit he didn't back down. Dumb Ref just let emery keep pounding.

Simmons should get a suspension on that hit that started it. he clearly was trying to hurt someone and led with the elbow to the head

Double minor pp... The caps may break double digits tonight.
