I wanna see marty hit 700..

We all would...there's a few mean spirits around here, but no one's really rooting against him...that being said, so hard to tell what you're going to get from him night to night.

It'll be funny when Ranger fans insist that 400 of Marty's wins came via shootout 10 years from now.

Great to see a couple of wins in a row, but this is what .500ish teams do.  They don't fall to Islander-record bad, but they don't go on extended successful runs either.

Would love to see them get on one though...every time they put a couple of wins together, I'm hopeful.

Fantastic evening at the Rock- the Devs get a dominating win, and I get a free $13 beer because the stripe on the back of my debit card wouldn't work and the woman got tired of trying. Outstanding.

Big win for your Dolphins and now this.  I think you may have peaked.

Haha don't say that CR- I'm hoping for the Fins to at least make the playoffs before peaking. :P

They keep going on an on about how Lundqvist is the first goalie to start his career with 7 straight 30 win seasons.  Yet they seem to have forgotten that Lundqvist also has the most shootout wins in NHL history.

Actually, it's Ryan Miller at the moment (47-27 in shootouts).  Lundqvist is 46-30, Marty is 42-27.  Lundqvist will probably wind up with about 80-90 shootout wins by the time he's done.

Ranger fans would make a big deal out of that (Lundqvist's 7-season 30-win streak), but it doesn't really mean that much...Marty came up for a cup of coffee in 91-92, was splitting time with Terreri for much of the 93-94 season (but still won 27 games), and of course played in a 48-game season in 1995 (to be fair, so did Lundqvist last season, which killed his streak).

so....went to my first game this year.....and yeah.....I'll say my piece on the goal song and be done with it....telling my GF the same thing on how much I can't stand it .... "it's like having amazing sex, and 10 seconds after I turn and say the most unromantic thing humanly possible to you....it's that kinda letdown after the goal"

...the rest of the crowd...yeah it's a mid-week game....yeah it's a "who cares" opponent....but all the noisy folk in the corners are GONE....and man it sterilizes the crowd....kinda sad actually.....and yeah the songs, the music....the vibe....it feels totally sterile and corporate now.....I guess the in-game experience isn't just aimed at the actual fans anymore....oh well....don't start bitching when the attendance numbers drop

Ottawa looked dead on skates tonight too...nice to see the Devils take advantage (man was that net WIDE OPEN for Gio).....finding a good way to rest my knee on the seats didn't help either....but I can't remember as lifeless an arena experience....even going back to the Swamp.....I'll try again in April I guess....but man.....I'm grateful I have my own hockey games to spend my time and money into and I'll just watch them on TV from here out.....geesh......

haha that's funny

Senators didn't show up tonight but the Devils did and that's what happens.  Ottawa is a disaster in their D zone when they are not playing well.

Didn't think Brodeur played very well but the two goals he gave up weren't bad plays at all, still gave up some ugly rebounds and almost had a goal go through him in the 1st.  Would be nice if NJ could play like this for Schneider more than once, though - then again, Schneider has gotten considerably harder starts.

Funny you mention the corners...I went back to 208 for most of tonight's game actually cause my friend and his dad still sit in the same seats (my former seatmates) and there was basically nobody in my row in 120 so I figured why not lol.  Other than Tony Goomba and a couple others that are still there you really wouldn't recognize 208 at all, it doesn't seem like they even sell the $10 tickets anymore since even the extreme corners are never close to filled.

Irony is I figured at least I'd escape the noise from the horns/vuvuzelas of the Diablos for a night, then NJay came up to the section banging the crap out of that drum right in front of us for half of the third period.  Most of the excitement came from a row of dirtbags that were throwing stuff, putting their feet on the glass and just generally being ***holes the whole night.  It took like the whole section complaining about them multiple times before security finally escorted them out after a million warnings.

I'm guessing Cory starts Friday and Marty Sat.  He should be seeing the west cause he should be more familiar with the teams.  Does that have anything to do with the harder starts, just cause the west is so much harder, I haven't looked.

i come away from that game thinking he played ok, i remember one rebound off of the arm or shoulder but not much else other then the quick glove save.  . i plan on watching the game on tv so I will reserve judgment for now.

As much as I got tired of the crap from 208/209, it did bring an energy level to the game (from a distance)....and seems like the EXACT fans they don't want in the building anymore....it's a shame actually.... same with the crazies in 232/233, the crowd noise always depended on those corners to bring it up....and now it's gone....just disappointing.....

Amazing game I will not soon forget. The action on the ice speaks for itself. Getting the lone bad thing out of the way first - hearing that goal song in person was such crap. Bring back RR pt 2. Standing up, cheering and awkwardly thinking "oh wait a minute - somethings wrong here" really took away from the celebration. The "you suck" is mixed in even more with this song and the whole thing feels so damn fake. Crasher's analogy is perfect

Anyway

As mentioned, hit up Dino BBQ and it turned out to be delicious and a pretty good price to be honest. So my girlfriend and I get to the game at 6:30 and head right to the seats to sit down. Up walks a guy in a suit asking if we'd like to be the free upgrade winners. Freaking sweet. We moved down to the restaurant but it was way out of our league, I don't think I saw anyone else in a jersey and here I was in a jersey, jeans, and work boots for Christ sake. I wish I didn't eat so much at Dino cause the buffet and carving stations in the restaurant were awesome.

Out of nowhere, in walks Bryce Salvador and the rest of the scratches. I walk past and do a double take and say "Holy crap, it's Bryce Salvador" and he smiles. I didn't want to bother him as he was walking around, but he ended up signing one of the tickets. Asked him how he was feeling and said he's planning on playing next week. Total professional. There really hasn't been anyone harder on him than me around here but he really is a class act and a cool guy.

As for the action on the ice, I thought Merill looked very very good in person. Great on the d zone rotation, smart with the puck, long reach - he really could be the total package. Gelinas' game may be more flashier and he certainly has been a huge asset to the team, but in the long run I could see Merill being even better. Hard to believe that with Larsson, those three could run the D corps for 10 plus years. Severson and Santini, oh man that could be the verge of something REALLY special. Good to see Boucher get his goal. Can anyone think of a player more ice cold or scolding hot than Brunner? Holy crap.

Chicago is the best team in the NHL and most deep as well. There solid except in goal. There good in goal, not great but they can afford it

The Sens, Ducks, Caps, and Hawks are all similar teams. All four teams are great at scoring goals, but also allow a lot of goals. These type of teams are teams the Devils play well against.

To say there over rated is a slap in the face for sure. Best offense. A good defense. Good goaltending. One of the best coaches. And how many cups recently. They've been the most dominant team really. There the best team theeague has. They have what it takes to win twenty five in a row, a la they did. I been watching San Jose for years, they ate streaky, have mental let downs when they get into the wcf's. They have just as a good a team as chicago but chicago has really one of the best leaders when it comes to toews as well. You wanna say over rated. Pitt or Detroit..si si si..

How do they sterilize the building and still have Tony Goomba there?   LOL.

I haven't been there yet this year, and working middle shift from Monday-Saturday makes it damn unlikely, but there's no way it can be as bad as the last couple of years at the dump.   That was downright depressing.   I just think people got used to having a lively environment and are exaggerating, but I guess I'll eventually drag myself to a Sunday game and I'll see

No goal song will ever be what R&R Part 2 was (just seemed right for this franchise), but I came to terms with it never being used again.  But if the main reason for a replacement was to get rid of the "You suck!"s, suffice it to say it didn't work.  I've been to three games so far and heard YS loud and clear.

I know we've blasted the new ownership for being corporate bores who don't seem to be in touch with everyday fans (I've gotten on them too), but do we really know what their vision is yet?  I'm thinking it could evolve as we go, and as they get to know the fanbase better.  Yeah, the building can be on the quiet side, but the team has not been an exciting one for much of the season, has been fugly at times, and doesn't score much to boot.

If there was an apparent sign of a "vision" I think people would be less upset.....one of the analogies my friends was using on me last night is how this feels like the WWE storyline with HHH and Stephanie coming out and doing all this crap and calling it "best for business"....it's a lot of little things....changing the song during mites on ice from the fitting Peanuts song to some crappy techno song that doesn't fit.....modifying score-o as well....a lot of things that got changed for no reason aside of well "if the other guy was doing this we don't wanna do this"....the $10 seats being gone...even emailing Sixers fans to get Devils tickets some 60-some miles away....its just all reeks of not having a clue....and trust me since I'm one of those fans....when you isolate and chase away those core fans for who going to Devils games was as much habit as enjoyment....they stop going....they find other things to do....and the desire to come back evaporates.....for me it's been hockey leagues....for others it will be something else....but then the attendance will start dropping and that's when all hell breaks loose....there's just enough small jabs at you to make you look around and go..."yeah this ain't fun no more"...I'd probably have a better (and cheaper) time gathering up three friends at the bar, having a nice dinner a few drinks and watching the game on TV there.....that will probably happen more too.....
