Plus, Chris Young is due back Friday, although I do wonder if they'd consider moving Ike down for him instead of an outfielder with Granderson hurting. '7' Posted April 16, 2014 Share Posted April 16, 2014 Arroyo can give you innings but he can also give you crap like this, where he basically gets annihilated by a very blah lineup. I think Ike will eventually distinguish himself over Duda and take 1st, with Duda and Chris Young having some sort of lefty/right split in left, and then Duda will spell Ike occasionally at 1st so Duda will get his AB's. He's now rocking an 0.50 ERA. The numbers so far for the "Big Vegas Three" (3 starts each): deGrom: 18 IP, 10 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 15 K, 0.78 WHIP, 0.50 ERA Montero: 17.1 IP, 12 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 18 K, 0.87 WHIP, 2.60 ERA Syndergaard: 16 IP, 17 H, 7 ER, 5 BB, 12 K, 1.38 WHIP, 3.94 ERA It's way too early to make any predictions on anyone, but it's nice to see "that other guy" deGrom getting off to a good start. (For whatever it's worth, Collin McHugh also got off to a nice start last season for Vegas.) deGrom's been up-and-down as a minor leaguer in his career so far, and he's going to be 26 years old in June, so it's not like he's a kid...he's over four years older than Syndergaard and over two years older than Montero. This is a big year for deGrom...he needs to get some time up with the big boys this year. Get the feeling he'll get the first look unless he really falls apart, mostly because time is of the essence in his case. re: Kirk, always nice when you can get a contribution from a guy you're expecting next to nothing from, even if it's only for a game or so. Sure, would be great if he could have a little hot streak for a week or so, but will it surprise me if he goes 0-for-4 with 3 Ks in his next game? Or anyone else? Somehow EY is batting .371 in his last 10 games, with 11 RS. The Met OF went 7-for-14 combined, with 7 RBI. One thing is for sure...it's not too difficult to approximate what Granderson has given the Mets at the plate so far (nearly nothing). Good call '7', last night would've been a perfect Familia spot...especially with Dillon "90 Pitches" Gee going today. A guy like Germen could've been useful. Re: Mejia...this is why baseball players can come off as the biggest pussies sometimes. It's not like he's the first pitcher who's ever been forced from a game due to blisters, but at the same time, there's just something about a guy having to leave a game because he's got a friggin' BLISTER. If he somehow gets through the year healthy, I trade him ASAP, even if he wins 15 games or so. I was all for keeping Pelfrey back in the day when he had a nice year, but sometimes you have to deal a guy when his value is as high as it's ever going to get. Re: Arroyo...I've always liked him, because he finds ways to win and is very durable, but he can have some truly hideous nights. Doesn't matter what happens today...the trip is already a success. Everyone here would've taken 5-4, even with Arizona off to a dreadful start...would any of us have been surprised if the Arizona starting pitchers suddenly got hot against the Mets? 7-7 and only a game behind the team that swept them to start the season (and practically looked invincible doing it). 2.5 out of first. Sounds like he'll also be an insurance policy in case Mejia's blister issue lingers into his next start. Glad they dumped Lannan. He was terribly miscast as a lefty specialist in the bullpen and he's just not good to begin with. I don't have much more faith in Dice-K, but I'm just glad Lannan is gone. Wow is Arizona off to a dreadful start. 4-14 (1-11 at home?!) is damned near season-killing type stuff. 8-7 is great, in that it's bought this team a little leeway...if they were 6-9 or 5-10, everyone would be all over them. That being said, it's impossible to believe this team is on the way to overachieving...just too many holes. nmig is right, Valverde stinks. Can't expect Farnsworth to keep up what he's done either. St Louis and Atlanta are going to be real tough, even though we're at home. I'd sign for 3-4 right now in those games. Then a series with the Marlins and Phils. Basically I'd like to see 6-6 for the rest of April. After a tough start they could've fallen even further behind, but took care of business against the Braves and D-backs. Still have ATL and STL coming up, but kudos to them. But it's hard to really put a positive spin on this. The Mets gave Ike plenty of chances...he just never turned it around. And if he does in Pittsburgh now, I'm going to be livid. My beef with was that he waited so long and nuked whatever trade value Ike had. He totally misplayed this one. I mean, the guy they acquired was skipped over by them and 28 other teams in the Rule 5 for a reason. The players coming back aren't important, this is just Sandy finally admitting defeat. Duda seeing the out was made slows up and gets thrown out at 3rd. If the call is overturned at 1st Duda would be out anyway, but seeing the out was made what is he supposed to do?
