Well, this year the team was very good, and they still couldn't draw. They've also complained about the team nickname not being the River Rats, but that doesn't really fly in my book. Once the Isles move from Bridgeport, or if the Rangers move out of Hartford, there are going to be some viable options for the Devils to move their AHL affiliate and Albany might be on the outside looking in. I wouldn't put it past the fans to be upset about the name change. Just remember what happened when the Titans became the Devils. Haven't Bridgeport and Hartford been there for years, even when the Rats were in Albany? Before Hartford, there was Binghampton (and still is but for the Sens). CommonDreads
My college roommate is from Albany, everyone in his family still acknowledges the Albany team as the River Rats. I'm assuming people in Albany just had a closer attachment to that team identity, would love to see Albany go back to that name.
Satans Hockey
For selfish reasons I would love to see them get moved to Trenton. That arena is AHL ready. I just miss hockey in Trenton.
vadvlfan
There might be a little validity to 'River Rats" moniker, hear in Norfolk Va. the hockey team has always been known as the Norfolk Admirals. Goes back many years ago started out as ECHL and 9K seat "Scope" was full. Then it went to AHL (for Blackhawks) stayed Admirals. They're jerseys didn't resemble Hawks at all. Now, it'sback to ECHL (Oilers) .
mfitz804
Bring 'em here to Staten Island, we're mere minutes from Newark and a little less "get stabbed in an alley" as well!!
Triumph
And so the dismantling begins - Brian O'Neill has already signed with Jokerit of the KHL. Didn't want him back, as his return would cost a 7th round pick, but he was a real good player for Albany.

Those plane rides will be epic. He'll wish he was riding busses in No. NY/New England
Devilsfan118
I say ditch Albany for either Trenton (I would love to have them that close again, though the "Trenton Devils" failed miserably) or somewhere the fans would actually appreciate the team. If the residents of Albany are that attached to the River Rats and won't come out to support a winning team, I saw screw them. I live out the Lehigh Valley now and the Flyers' affiliate, the Phantoms, are moved here to the new PPL Center. All signs point to it being a major success, think they sold out a ton of games and are one of the top ranked AHL teams WRT attendance. I went to a bunch of games and it's a pretty good environment for an AHL game. And they were a pretty shiity team I think, around .500. Lateralous
While I would love to see the AHL team in Trenton, its going to be a tough sell if they insist on naming them the Devils. The Titans seemed to do fine up there and with the Phantoms up in Lehigh Valley now, I think there is a market for minor league hockey in this area, especially at the AHL level. I agree that the new arena in Allentown is awesome Edited May 22, 2016 by Lateralous
vadvlfan
All along I thought after Isles farm moved back into "renovated" Nassau Colleseum, the Devs were moving to Bridgeport behind the Isles. Wonder why they signed a deal for 3 more years.
