ghdi
http://www.hockeybuzz.com After a fun night spent in the company of people who don't know Mattias Ohlund from Patrick Elias, I woke up today and have been tracking down the rumour of ongoing major trade talks between the Devils and the Canucks. Working in the players but, this is the scenario and why these teams are talking.... The Canucks are out of cap space, but desperate for scoring. They do have three defensemen in the three million plus range. Each would be a good replacement for Rafalski. The Devils have some forwards they can move... Oilers want Gionta...trying to work a trade for Parise. The Oilers are also talking to NJ. Lou, or as I like to call him "the scariest man in hockey to write rumours about" is absolutely trying to make both minor and major deals. With the threat of an Oilers offer sheet looming the Devils couldn't even consider Sheldon Souray, and now the Oilers are rumoured to be trying to convince the Devils on moving Parise before an offer sheet is made. Lou is apparently daring them, feeling that if he can get the next two #1's he has a good shot at Tavares. A source told me that, "How good can the Oilers get poaching RFAs? There are only so many blue chips you have to give up." Edited July 15, 2007 by ghdi

Rampage
Єklund (2.3% accurate) (2.3% accurate) is an idiot. There really is nothing else to say to describe this clown.
Satans Hockey
Parise still would have to sign the offer sheet in the first place.
coldply123
If the Canucks are out of cap space, why would they take on 6 million in salary with Elias? And the Devils wont trade Elias unless they are getting a forward with Ohlund. And I dont see any forward with enough salary to even it out. Єklund (2.3% accurate) (2.3% accurate) is a moron. I dont see Parise wanting to play in Edmonton. Kevin Lowe is a jackass and most likely will now be isolated by pretty much every GM in the league, so expect him to be fired within a year or so. I think Lous avoiding Souray shows he wants to save money to lock up Parise and Martin long-term.
Triumph
http://www.hockeybuzz.comAfter a fun night spent in the company of people who don't know Mattias Ohlund from Patrick Elias another night alone for Єklund (2.3% accurate) (2.3% accurate)? Vancouver and New Jersey are not trading. Nor is Edmonton and New Jersey - unless we could finagle Pitkanen from them somehow, which I sincerely doubt. If we could still sign a decent LW, deal Parise for Pitkanen+something else, I'd consider it - but Pitkanen's much closer to UFA than Parise, so that scenario is right out. Dadds3424
lou would be a idiot to loss parise he has so much more potential and he would also be an idiot to loose gionta. they are two of our best players

Diabolical
I just love this part of Eklunds post. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=8624 A few notes about trade rumours for those of you new to Hockeybuzz... ** I love how the boy from the Philly area changed his spelling to appeal to Canadian readers hehe. simple rules... #1. Logic only takes you so far. I am always amazed when people apply logic as the reason a deal won't happen. Yes logic is a great tool in life, and 95 percent of the time logic is spot on. But then you think of Luongo, Thornton, Gomez AND Drury signing in NY, etc....All of which I admit are rumours that I didn't come close to breaking....But when I put a trade rumour out there I don't filter it. If it comes from some anonymous fan in an email I won't touch it, but if a respected hockey person tells me, I tell you. And yet I always am faced with comments saying this rumour isn't true because it isn't logical. A rumour is a rumour. There is no true or false...you either believe that I am not sitting here making these all up or you don't. *** In other words he may not be making them up but he hasn't ever heard a rumor he won't promote for web site traffic. Which equals the all mighty dollar.

Weekes Head
Parise is going to sign wit the devs according to thefourthperiod.com! There was no indication. They just took a report out of the Star Ledger and posted it on their site as well. Nothing wrong with that, but they didn't exactly break any new ground there. They did the same thing with the Souray-to-Devils deal -- there was a report in the Star Ledger how Lou expressed interest in Souray, TFP reported the same thing, and then NHL Line proceeded to proclaim that Souray would WITHOUT A DOUBT FOR SURE 999999999999999999% SIGN WITH THE DEVILS OH YEAH!!! In terms of an offer sheet, they really would have no choice. If Parise happens to sign the offer sheet, which would be a ridiculous contract, the Devils would either have to match or take the picks. Rather than screwing up your whole payroll and f'ing up your cap, I would easily take the picks.

stevestevens
Ive read in places Lou wants Parise for along time, i would think maybe 3.5 for 4 or 5 years. I hope he dose because that would be good for both sides.
squishyx
I just don't understand... Lou should have had a contract ready the day after the season ended for Parise. why? he is a RFA, which means he *always* has control if the player is here or not. Its like all the Sabre fan idiots who were trying to rip managment apart for letting Vanek reach the point where he would be getting offer sheets. he is RESTRICTED. You cant just poach. Look, offersheets are NOT common. Its happened what? twice in the last 5 years or something?. The oilers are not going to trade 4 first rounders for parise, and if they wanted to we should jump at the chance. Elias and Broduer are the only players on this roster that arent worth that right now. If you sign your RFA's right away you might be throwing more money at them or locking them up at different lengths then benefit you from the free agency period. What GM in there right might would lock up 8mil to RFA's and hanfcuff themselves to not be able to afford any fo the FA's out there? No, you do exactly as Lou and Darcy did in Buffalo. You make your best attempt at the FA's out there and then worry about RFA's. Just because we didnt land a big free agent doesnt mean we didnt try. Vinnie
If we trade Elias to the Canucks we would have to replace our offensive catalyst of the last 7 years. Unfortunately the Canucks forwards are terrible with the exceptions of the Sedins who are going nowhere, and maybe Naslund who has the same price tag as Elias. Nevermind the fact that Elias and Ohlund have both played in the same their entire career and both have a no trade clause.

stevestevens
The Sedins arent going nowhere, theyre a fun duo to watch and they are definatly getting better Last season they had 46 goals and 119 assist together. i dont know why anyone would say they are going nowhere. if you mean theyre going nowhere as in they are staying in Canuck jerseys thats true.
