Preseason opener tonight

After just three days of practice, the Devils will play their preseason opener tonight against Philadelphia in Trenton (7 p.m. faceoff). Kevin Weekes will get the start in net. Jordan Parise will serve as his backup and play the second half of the game.

Head coach Brent Sutter is looking forward to seeing how the players adapt to the team's more aggressive approach in a game situation. "I just want the guys to focus on the things that we've been working on in practice the last few days," Sutter said. "But to do that and to do it right there has to be preparation involved and make sure you're ready to play. We want to play an up-tempo game and to play that you've got to have emotion and a passion for it.

G Martin Brodeur, LW Patrik Elias, C Dainius Zubrus, RW Brian Gionta, D Paul Martin and RW Jamie Langenbrunner will not make the trip to Trenton, home of the Devils' ECHL affiliate. Langenbrunner remains off the ice with an upper groin/abdominal injury and is scheduled to see a specialist in Montreal on Wednesday to help determine if he needs surgery.

The Devils' lineup for tonight's game is as follows:

Forwards:

Z. Parise-Zajac-Brylin

Pandolfo-Madden-Asham

Tallackson-Vrana-Clarkson

Rupp-Pelley-Janssen.

From Gulitti's blog

Defense:

Matvichuk-Greene

Oduya-Rachunek.

Goalie:

J. Parise.

Oh how sweet it is to see a GDT :boogie:

Weekes starting in the first pre-season game, I wonder how Marty is feeling about that? I would've made the same move if I were Sutter, though. I'd love to be able to see how Vishnevski and Rachunek handle themelves tonight. (This game isn't streamed online by any chance, is it?)

I really hope they put some of the big-guns in the lineup this Friday @ MSG, but that's getting a little ahead of myself.

Anywho... Let's Go Devils! :koolaid:
