I blame the parents not for their economic background, but for being lazy.

Exactly, individuals who make under $150K per year (without bonus's) should be put to death.

Bloody paupers.

Well, then you admit you really don't know what you're talking about. It's very difficult to be a petty criminal when you're freezing your ass off :P But seriously, Sweden is very different than the US in socio/economic terms -- not because of your wonderful criminal justice system -- it's cultural and that's a whole other debate so let's just leave it at that.

It's lovely to beleive in rehabilitiation -- but as you wrote yourself child murderers are psychos. Most agree they are beyond rehabilitation.

Short term jail sentences for petty criminals actually may lead to a life more deeply steeped in crime. They're now felons and lose many of their rights as citizens -- they don't get them back. So if their criminal ways were brought about by their poor economic situation, it ain't getting any better once they're out of jail and "rehabilitated". Too much spending is going on keeping violent criminals caged - (as well as non-violent criminals - ie drug users or stupid "make an example out of them" cases....thus money cannot be reappropriated to rehabilitate those with a chance. There are too many people in the country to make that a realistic goal.

Thus as it stands now, it's as rare to have rehabilitation work as it is to be a true psycho/sociopath worthy of death all the way around.

I have no solution but I'm not about to spout any happy horsesh!t as if there was one general catch all "rehabilitation" we could easily be focusing on!

ALSO -- you can say the poor are commiting the crimes -- yes they are -- but not against the ich. They are killing one and other -- the innocent poor are the victims.

Okey.. I now it's very difficult to offer worhty rehab for everyone.. Absolutely, And your'e right that criminals putted in jails often comes out as a even worse criminal!

And that's why I think we/you should spend more money on jails to make them better.. Every little man that could be converted into a "good" human again is worth alot in my opinion!

And I don't get the last thing?! The poor people are commiting crimes on eachother?! yes it's true.. And why? Because the rich people doesn't take their responsability using their money to build a society were we don't have any povertry!! But i dunno, That's maybe impossible to make an american understand, No offense, because as you said.. In sweden and some other european countries, We have different culture and point of view! :noclue:

My comment was saying we don't want to enlist the death penalty to protect the rich from the flithy murderous masses. The death penalty would be to protect the innocent, poor or rich.

But I dont believe in the death penalty either.

I beleive in capitalism -- but the idea of socialism is wonderful.

I like America. Americans are actually very generous by choice. We're also generally opposed to the government trying to mandate our charity. Madating charity tends to invite corruption. If it appears that we're an ungenerous money grubbing society it's probably because we have a very generous immigration policy and as a result the third largest population in the world.

It's not easy to evenly distribute the wealth in such a culturally diverse environment. Just getting word out about the availabilty of funds is difficult with the many language barriers. So money then needs to be spent on the multi-lingual disemination... we have so many issues really no other country has to deal with on such a large scale -- you just can't even BEGIN to conceptualize. So, just the TIP OF THE ICEBERG: A lot of our economic problems aren't shared by other countries because they don't have the same populous -- they do not have liberal immigration laws which, really, at the end of the day, is the real mark of a countries generosity, don't you think? If you'r going to go there, and ya did - at least be REAL about it OK?

Right, I agree with you at some of the things such as it's generous to have liberal border laws! And US earn respect because of that! And i'm not a socialists.. Nor a capitalist either.. But i must say i belive in some sort of social democracy where the people can control the economy themselfs! A system that can make sure that everyone has social safety! So that those poeple who have not had the same start of their life as others do have equal chances of getting a good life!

You could say that i'm a Socialist within the democratic borders!

What I mean with trying too see the reasons why people choose the criminal life is just that instead of just letting people commit the crime and then punish them.. Wouldn't it be better to try eliminate poverty, rascism and other factors that creates criminals? I don't mean that we shouldn't punish the murderers.. I've just said that while we're punishing them it should be in our responsability to minimize the reasons why people commit the crime! More money to schools, social welfare, psychic care, hospitals could be one way! Even how difficult it might be to have your son killed.. Cause I think all of you who do got a heart wants to reduce the crimes! And I don't think you can do that by "just" have high punishments and more heavy-armed polices..

I think the State should keep the Death Penalty, but the Dems in power in NJ feel that with the State's massive debt and other woes, now is the time to do away with it.

I can't wait to welcome the influx of killers, rapists and scum who understand the legal system and know they can get off without sitting on death row.

Welcome to NJ: Kill as You Please... Taxpayers will help you lift weights and get you in the best shape of your life!

Also, please don't give me this "the poor can't afford a decent lawyer so death row isn't fair" BS! DNA testing is inexpensive nowadays and you can tell who is innocent/guilty right away. If a scumbag pulls a gun on a Trooper on the Turnpike and shoots him dead defending his or her drugs... death! Rapist.. dead! Not anymore!

Now that there is no DP, let the drugs fly down 95 by a bunch of immigrant Columbians who could give a sh^t because they will not have to sit on death row and will take a chance on general population in a great taxpayer jail system! What we as taxpayers pay for food and clothing for our jail system inmates far outways the living conditions in that 3rd world country from which they came from!

Now that NJ is a "free state" for killers and drug traffic, it sucks to be in law enforcement and God Bless those guys and girls on our interstates! They'll need it!

"I also take exception to the idea that life in prison is super awesome." Thats becuase the vast majority of people who say they would rather spend life in prison than be executed have never spent one day behind bars."

True. The jails could and should be better! Much better if the criminals are to have a fair chance of getting out of the criminal life!!

And the construction trade is full of ex-cons, some re-habbed, some not. I arrested a guy right on his job site a month ago. He won't learn.

Is this guy something else? How naive can you be?

Drug dealers do not face the death penalty, even King Pins, I believe.

According to our 16 year old Swedish idealist, barbaric Americans apparently owe it to convicts to make their earned prison stay as acceptable and comforting an experience as possible.

I'll be ruining a couple of Christmas' in the next couple of days if I can find a couple of people..............hopefully..........

maybe not that. but lets not have prison being a great school for petty first time criminals to learn the trade for real from the experts
