Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin was involved in a knee-on-knee collision in the first period of Monday night's game against the Carolina Hurricanes and needed help from medical personnel to leave the ice. He was assessed a 5 minute for kneeing and a game misconduct. This is the 2nd game misconduct since Wednesday.

Thoughts.

I personally think he need to be suspended for 2 misconducts in less then a week.

i agree. no player should get special treatment even if they are a superstar.

Doubt the NHL would incur something like that on their love.. Avery would be out 5 games :P

The "kneeing" call against Ovechkin tonight I feel was a bad call. He didn't classically stick his knee out but instead the check was more square-on with him leading with his upper body.

Why ask a question and then answer it two posts later? I once knew a kid 17 years old that did that!

Ok, did this really need its own thread about the Rangers Alex Ovechkin? NO, IMO.

It is all in the OOT Scoreboards if you take the time to read it. Just saying... smile.gif

it wasn't as much Ovechkins fault as it was bad timing. He went for a body check but was just a split second late. He did lead with his knee though. So that's where I can see his fault. But if it was a second earlier, it would have been a clean hit.

I edited the thread after the question then mad another post instead of re editing it again.

I made it a discussion thread as I am mentioning multiple games.

Time to consult the chart:

But in all seriousness, if Ovechkin isn't suspended, then it would only give more ammo to people who love to hate the league. we all get it that Ovechkin has helped the league get to where it is now since the lockout, but honestly, you can't do sh!t like this.

He didn't mean to hit him with his knee. The guy moved out of the way. Even if he is suspended, if he's hurt it doesn't matter.

Ovechkin becoming a dirty player in the NHL now? Sure looks like it for the poster boy in the NHL. That knee on knee was nasty and he will be out for a while.

Nice chart! LOL!

I believe Don cherry on HNIC said a couple months ago that all these hits Ovechkin throws would catch up with him.

That chart never gets old. Glad to see others appreciate it, too. I've actually got it printed out and posted near my desk at work - along with the playoffs version.

Anyway.

Ovechkin's latest hit doesn't seem particularly dirty, but an argument could be made that he's just being reckless out on the ice. Two game misconducts in a week? Even if he doesn't warrant a suspension, he should at least be spoken to by Colin Campbell and the powers that be.

Looked like he tried to use a shoulder and missed but got the knee instead. Sucks.

he certainly did try to hit him with the shoulder, but also tried to use his knee to prevent the player from avoiding the check.

Seems like the major is enough.

lol, it works out conveniently given he'd probably miss a game or two with the injury anyway.

I hope that isn't the case. He should serve the two game ban when he is fit to play.

I guess the point is he can be medically cleared to play (although not actually ready) then serve his 2 games)
