Than why the fvck did you spend an entire page of a thread insulting me for having that opinion? So not only are you a condescending prick, you're an absurd hypocrite?

Yes. I'm a condescending prick. And an absurd hypocrite. It's how I roll. Now go watch a fvcking curling match, and get back to me after you've formed an opinion based on what you've watched, as opposed to drawing conclusions.

Did Curling stop it's season mid-point and send their multi-million dollar investments to play for another team, all while risking injury and potential playoff damage to the team that pays them? Did Curling scrap it's All-Star Game for the good of the sport and all the money and TV exposure that comes with it, so they could participate? Did Curling's own major TV network, who is benefiting financially by having all of these players participate in their telecasts, turn a cold shoulder on it's biggest stage and throw the game on the least desirable channel possible? Do you think the NHL and the Players don't feel like 3rd class citizens right now, since the game that everybody wanted won't be shown in HD to the masses, but instead will show Women's Curling instead? It's just pitiful.

I do watch Curling when it's on (US is having a rough go of it), and I find it entertaining. But this is US-Canada in hockey. Qualification game or not, it's huge. Regarding that "buzz", I'd bet you a pair of season Devils tickets that the scalping for today's US-Canada hockey game is higher than whatever Curling is going on today. A quick search has today's hockey tickets 5x more expensive than Curling. Not sure how much buzz we're actually talking about.

If I'm the NHL, this I would never forget. NBC flat out sucks and I'm going to choke the next peacock I see.

Good. The first step is admitting that you have a problem.

Seriously, though. How can you honestly say "At first, I thought the exact same way that you did" after you spent an entire page in a thread yelling at me for having that opinion? Are you just that ignorant?

On this matter it's hard to disagree- however, to play devil's advocate for a minute- MSNBC is not really the "least desirable" channel. I'd wager to bet more people have it than CNBC. The problem for many (including me) is that the game won't be seen in HD, which blows.

Look, what you have to realize is this: the Olympics are a business. Old ladies and women between the ages of 18-49 would much rather watch ice dancing and skiing than hockey, which is why the game isn't on NBC's main network. It also locks NBC into a 3-hour block of programming that can't be interrupted with lengthy commercial breaks, thus not maximizing that all-important ad revenue in prime-time. That's just the way it is. It sucks, but that's business. No one made the NHL stop the season to participate. The players wanted this.

No, I've just made an effort to be more open-minded about things... it was wrong of me to jump on you like that. Woke up in a bad mood and was kind of looking to blow off some steam on something. But really, try watching it and get back to me. You may really like it. It's a really cool sport.

Totally agree, and understand the gender demographics and why they've made the decision not to show on NBC. My issue with this is about the lack of HD. CNBC IS HD for all, where they knew that MSNBC is not. I know of no other sport where HD is so vital to the viewer. Anybody who is a sports fan would put the US/Canada game on HD and Curling on standard if given the choice. How many people are really so into Curling that they'd forgo the NBC main Olympic coverage and then search secondary channels to watch it? Granted a few I'm sure, but enough to say that it should trump hockey for HD? Remember, some person or persons made this decision and weighed the pros and cons of it. That person is a complete tool in my book and should be fired and banned from ever working anything sports related for life.

I think the curling games are awesome. It's a pity the games clash with the hockey, the only solution would be for more channels on tv.

It takes a hell of a lot of skill to play, those stones are made of granite and weigh from 35 to 45 pounds. The brooms are used to keep the stone straight, in other words, to stop it from curling. It depends on the type of shot you want to play.

Along with golf, curling originated in Scotland, awesome game.

That the end of a Team USA curling match is being aired over the start of Norway-Switzerland or something similar doesn't bother me at all. Its that NBC just straight up doesn't show the game anywhere. If a game runs over, ESPN will push the next game to ESPN2, or ESPNU or one of their channels; NBC sits with their thumbs up their asses while a random infomercial runs on CNBC. Put the game there, I mean, is it that big of a deal if you don't show a fvcking infomercial?

And it is not just that the curling matches are running long, it is that the hockey games are starting early!

Has there ever been an official explanation as to why hockey games that, according to the NBC Olympic schedule, are supposed to begin at 3:00 pm ET and 12:30 am ET are actually starting what seems like a half-hour earlier?

So when the curling matches go a little long, instead of us missing maybe 3-5 minutes of hockey action, we are missing up to 10-17 minutes of the first period.

It's ridiculous.

Holy sh!t! Did you sleep with the American curling team or something?

It's like pool and darts; it's probably fun to play, but I'm not going to waste my life watching other people do it.

You probably hate golf too.

Here's what I'm guessing: whoever made the decision to put the game on MSNBC probably realized more cable subscribers have MSNBC than CNBC (just guessing here). Therefore, to make the game available to more people, they decided to put it on MSNBC, regardless of the HD factor. That's the only thing I can think of.

You get a point for being closest to the center, and a point for every other stone you have that is closer than the closest stone of the opponent. Ha, they really don't explain it much, I had to watch a while to get it.

So if you have one dead center, and 2 other ones closer than your opponents closest stone, you get 3 points.

how weird is golf when you think about it? What if someone came from outerspace and saw people playing golf?

It's a game ( or sport if you like) that takes hand -eye coordination, concentration, finesse, tactics and strategy. So does curling. Lots of golfers smoke and drink on the course too.

All a matter of what you like.

Curling is actually a pretty cool sport, and from what I have heard from people...it has created a nice buzz in the States. It is gigantic in Canada and pulls in massive ratings, but I only really watch during the Olympics. It really is a perfect sport to Tivo, where you can fast forward a lot of the talking in between the shots and the first few stones from each end.

It definitely has some incredible strategy and some of the shot-making ability is fantastic. If anyone ever tried it, you'll have a lot more appreciation.

No offense to MB3, but Curling isn't a sport that would probably create much buzz in a high school.

Also, the babes of curling doesn't hurt either.

i've been finding myself watching a lot of curling this week too, it's a rather strategic sport.

but i actually agree with larry brooks for once - big f-ing deal if you miss the first 5 minutes of a preliminary hockey game.

i've enjoyed watching curling for the most part. it just gets a little long with all the talking, like dr33 said. that's when i get bored. otherwise, it's pretty neat to watch. i just can't watch it for hours and hours every single day, so i've been watching it sporadically these games.

I play alot of shuffleboard in the local watering hole by my house, curling is VERY similiar. Having the hammer(last weight)is key. Butt have to admit playin is alot better than watching.

I actually watched curling all day yesterday in between hockey games. I probably spent 6 hours watching nothing but curling. I've become an addict. :P

You're probably right and that makes perfect sense, but when it comes to hockey it's all about ME! :)

Much as I hate that curling's gotten precedence, I've had no problem finding feeds online or watching whatever parts of hockey I can get. I always get into the Olympics thinking I'll only watch hockey and I end up loving everything, from skiing to snowboarding to curling to speedskating to bobsled. I love the winter Olympics, and I really don't mind if hockey doesn't get NBC HD for the preliminary round. Canada-US for sure should be on NBC HD, but that's the only real mistake I see. I think the Olympics are a chance for other amateur athletes to get exposure on a national level, something they will never ever get any other way. The NHL players will get plenty of exposure for the rest of the year and during the Medal Round.

Also, I'm quite partial to the Dupont sisters (Denise and Madeleine) from Denmark:

So no one commented on the curling babes posted by whoever that was? The russian babes are so cute, i have literally looked up the times to see when they curl so i can get some pleasure in, I have not done that for any hockey games yet. The russian womens curling team is proof that curling is almost as good as hockey. Theyre unique exotic dime pieces. And it's only in curling.

LOL, I hear ya... I'm watching the USA-Canada women's match right now, I'm Tivoing the USA-Great Britain men's match at 5, and I'm also Tivoing the USA-Sweden women's match tonight at 10. In between the 3 hockey games today and tonight, I WILL find a way to watch all this curling. :P
