When you first signed up, Chico, I thought to myself... man, this guy laughs out loud a lot! But I guess I got used to it. Not a problem by any means, I think it fits you. I think it's funny that I was so used to it I almost was skipping over the lols...

You know what's sad, El Chico isn't laughing out loud even sometimes. It can be just a little laugh, lol.

Chico, if I ever met you, I would expect you to be laughing at every pause in the conversation...

There would be no pauses cause you'd never stop laughing. Ask Derek, he has heard some amazing jokes from me.

Chico, I bet you're funny... and believe me, I'm one for comedy. I actually study comedy and, if I ever get accepted, want to do my Ph.D. thesis on comedic literature.

But I'm one for the corny jokes... my favorites are the Marx Brothers...

Groucho: Do you have any milkfed chicken?

Waiter: Yes.

Groucho: Well squeeze the milk out and bring me a glass.

Well the Journal will continue...

End of Day 1.

It's around 11:30 and I walk outside to go meet my friends and there's Melanie out there with 2 people (who I later found are her sister and her sis's boyfriend) and they were drinking. Melanie offers me a beer and I said sure I will be right back.

Well I come back with my brother and they offered again so we go and sit down with Melanie Brodeur for a whole 40 min. We talked about everything from Marty to how Montreal is. It was SO awesome. They were drinking, but I didn't drink anything. They were all drunk but that's as far as I'm going to go. I will not leak out anything she said because I don't want what she said to fall into the wrong hands. I think that would be extremely disrespectful of me.

They said for me and my brother to come back tomorrow night and sit down with them again. Man this is turning into the best summer ever!

And for all of you who said Melanie isn't good looking or is fat, YOU ARE DEAD WRONG!! DEAD WRONG! She is VERY beautiful. VERY.

Chico, studying comedy is a stretch... most big universities will offer a Comedic Literature course and a film course dealing with comedy, but not much else. This isn't to say you can't try...

But I could be digging my own grave here... cause what you write your thesis on is HUGE. If you write it on Shakespeare you can get a job anywhere. On comedy? Not so easy.

I think comedy is tough like anything. In truth, that's how it is now. I look no further than my situation. I worked hard and did some internships and made peanuts in all capacities of sports that I've been in thus far. But it's what I want to do and I'm not giving up. I admit I have been lazy the past several months and I have no excuses. There was some stuff going on at home too that definitely affected me and it's in the process of improving drastically and for that, I'm very happy :) . I'm excited about going after what I want now and can do it a lot easier than before.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, you have to work hard and put yourself out there. You also have to be in the right frame of mind. The only advice I can give anyone is get as much experience as possible and put it on your resume and make phone calls. Chico, I think you should try writing. Your NFL previews are good and you might be a natural.

For myself, it's an uphill climb but I am ready now to do what I have to do B).

At least comedy is something El Chico enjoys and can put up with studying for a year or however long. The writing thing matters on the subject. Enough about my career and life path. Derek has a schedule thing to get working on.

I have heard mulitple times [that Marty's] a prick to fans.

Is this true? Is this the consensus on the board? Just curious.

El Chico thinks that Chico is a different Chico. El Chico never calls himself Chico, always Chico. El Chico has never seen and Marx Brothers movies, El Chico assumes the other Chico has since Chico is in the movie.

(wow, that's 10 chico's)

(now 11!)

About Marty and fans - you gotta remember, just because he didn't sign some kid's puck doesn't make him a jerk. Maybe he had somewhere to be. Players don't have to be on call to give signatures 24 hours a day. Sometimes they need to pick up their kids, make a quick trip to the grocery store - sometimes they don't like to be bothered.

This is what I heard about Marty, a consensus from many people. Sometimes he refuses to sign stuff or asks for little attention just because he's in a rush or something. I think that's fine.

I have heard that the majority of time he is very nice to fans. He has been extremely nice to my next-door neighbor, a young, physically-challenged, hardcore Devils fan. He plays sled hockey and once played at Smith Mountain Arena. The Devils were finishing up practice when he got there and he kept yelling his praises to Marty. After they finished, Marty went out of his way to my neighbor and gave him his stick (later he autographed it). He also sat down with my neighbor for a local news interview about sled hockey. They asked my neighbor if he could score on Marty and he said, "Of course." Marty just sat there and smiled, saying, "He probably could."

With stories like that, and that's not the only one, it's hard to imagine him not being a great guy. Maybe he's not the nicest 100% of the time, but that's not expected, at least not from me. If I saw him at a grocery store and he wanted to be left alone, I'd respect that.

El Chico has met Marty twice. The first time was on Route 23 and it was an appearance so he had to sign. The second time was after a practice at the CAA and we parked kind of close to were he was parked. He came out of the entrance between Gate B and C and El Chico asked politely and nicely (El Chico can be nice, lol) and he agreed and signed everything El Chico had (4 jerseys and a puck) even though he was with his father and they were about to leave. Marty got a kick out of the fact that we had brought our dog in the car and my dog was sticking his head out the window. He was very nice both times. And these kids and people gotta understand, these players are doing you a favor by signing an autograph and they are not here to serve you. In El Chico's opinion you have to be retarded to walk up to a player in a place where they are not obliged to sign anything and go "Marty, sign this" Look at the championship DVD, Stevens was nice enough to stop where the Devils come out and sign a few autographs and right away, they start harrasing him and one kid is like "CAN I HAVE YOUR STICK?" LOL, WTF is that?

I have heard mulitple times [that Marty's] a prick to fans.

Is this true? Is this the consensus on the board? Just curious.

From what I hear he's like a normal person with good days and bad days but generally pretty easy going.

Having been in the same room as Brodeur I find him far more accessable than most sports stars (read Scott Stevens). (FYI: I'm SHY - I didn't even acknowledge his existance) So then it stands to reason, if you're out and about more in the world, naturally there's more of a chance for you to inadvertantly be a butthead to someone

SHEEPS: A thesis on comedy would be so awesome! I find comedy to be a major marker for intellegence -- especially the Marx Brothers! What about a thesis on the comedy in the writings of Martin Luther? I was thinking about what a total brilliant fvck up he was after seeing a PBS special on his life. Has anyone's writings brought about so much anger and hatred -- and yet he could be so funny when editorializing on someone. Nowhere is there a clearer example of how distructive humor at the expens  uh oh I'm rambling again... anyhow I was thinking how if Martin Luther had had a hockey message board to go off on the world would be a few mass riots/murders shorter - he just needed somewhere else to focus his anger rather than religion and politics!

 But this thread is about Martin Brodeur isn't it? sort of..

It's SUNDAY! I always think too much on a day of rest...think I'll clean the house instead .. so...

Nevermind

Marty has a lot on his mind give him a break his sister-in-law, his mother-in-law and maybe his brother-in-law.
