The Story Behind the Mask

When Mike McKenna got to see David Gunnarsson's paintings he decided David was the one to paint for him. Check out Mike's previous design by David here in the gallery.

Mike is a big fan of motorsports and he wants his mask designs in the same graphic spirit with distinct lines, contrasts and profiles. David's goal in his artistry is to be as versatile as possible and be able to paint any styles.

David thought out a design idea that Mike liked. On the top of the mask David has created a graphic race inspired look in black, red and white. On the sides David has weaved in the Devils logo, with lots of cool 3-D effects. Around white ghost flames are hovering.

The design gets a stable base to stand on with the red base below, that turns into red flames. On the chin the design is framed by graphic lines inspired by the team jersey. On a banner the motto of the state, that also has named the design, is written. On the chin you also find the year when the state was founded.

David has tied together all threads to a magic red and black whole breathing Devils to a 100%. And as usual there's a tremendous detail work with DAVEART's own innovative Holographix FX with the Devils logo as a background pattern in the metallic base.

Baffling decision.

If you didn't think Maclean's ass was on the line, it sure is now.

You don't start an average AHL goalie in a game where your struggling, worst in the NHL team needs to desperately grab a win against one of the best team's in the league.

Or at least an NHL coach doesn't do that.. which Mac might not be so much longer depending on tonight's outcome.

Possibly an AHL Goalie at best, maybe thats why Tampa Bay dumped him. Question is why did we pick him up then?

Funny, I read (and was as guilty of) the same criticisms of Sutter when he first put in a 'career AHL goalie' in Clemmensen over the 'vet' backup Weekes. And like Weekes, Hedberg's just meh other than the one soft goal a game he gives up. He's obviously comfortable with McKenna, why not give it a shot? He'll have to play a game next weekend anyway.

Got to give McKenna a shot here and get his chance. Hedberg has not been good at all and the Devils really have nothing to lose but another game here by starting McKenna. I hope he does well and one of those goalies that comes out of nowhere and wins games just like Clemmensen did while Brodeur was out with injury.
