  2. 2017 Miami Dolphins thread

So to recap another lovely weekend in Dolphins Land: the starting MLB was arrested and summarily cut for assaulting an employee at a night club over an unpaid $40 tab. The team committed a franchise high 17 penalties, to go along with a mind-numbing five turnovers. And they made Ryan Fitzpatrick look like John Elway, Aaron Rodgers, and Johnny Unitas all rolled into one, on the way to a 30-20 loss to the pathetic Bucs. At home. The Pats are opening up as a 17 (17!!!!!!) point favorite for next week, and that line should be around 20 by the time next Sunday rolls around. I see absolutely no good reason to even get on the plane and give them the satisfaction of humiliating us. Just forfeit and save myself and every other Dolphins fan the time, aggravation, embarrassment, and heartache that we are inevitably slated to endure next weekend. T-minus five months til the draft. Sigh. [emoji20] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I didn't like the fact that he thinks he can let up. He obviously has the mentality that he could cruise in juniors sometimes and it would be no big deal. He obviously seems to think the same thing about the NHL, which, as he's finding out, isn't the case. He seems to have a 'well, this is good enough' type of attitude. I hope this is the start of an attitude adjustment on Zacha's behalf, but it's obvious from those quotes that after a year+ in the league, he still hasn't gotten it. Hopefully he does now. We'll see starting tonight.

Agree with nessus, I see it more as a guy who's realizing that what he did against lesser competition won't be good enough up here. As far as Stefan goes, sometimes the guys who can give you the best advice are the ones who learned from their mistakes too late, and don't want to see others make similar mistakes. Stefan might be the perfect guy to tell Zacha "Do you want to have a NHL career like mine? Then you need to start approaching the game at this level differently!"
  5. Platinum tickets

So I was lucky enough to grab a couple of tickets for Friday's game that have Platinum written on them (Sec 18 Row 12). Was surprised to see this since I thought only the first 5 or so rows got this access in this section. I'm guessing this gives me access to the platinum bunker lounge below the black seats. Do these tickets also let you enter through the VIP entrances? What time do they kick you out after the game? I did some reading up from older posts that mentioned the platinum club but I don't recall seeing this. This may be my first and last time with this access

What didn't you like about it? I may have interpreted it differently, but to me, those quotes suggest that he had the wrong mentality beforehand, and is trying to change that. Zacha is a textbook example of a player with all the tools: big, strong, good skater, great shot, good hands, etc. That's probably enough to get by in juniors without needing a developed hockey IQ (and that's not to say Zacha doesn't or won't have that) or to play with high intensity every shift. Maybe he was saying that in the previous leagues, expectations were lower and he could afford to have a bad couple of games here and there. He could have let himself get lazy at times, or tone down the intensity when the urgency wasn't there, whether that's a result of the coaching or his own mentality is another story. But he's probably realizing now that this does not cut it at the NHL level. It kind of explains how Zacha was so inconsistent for much of his junior career. There were lackluster stretches, and then times where he was absolutely dominant, both offensively and defensively (shutting down McDavid's line in the '15 playoffs, for example). These quotes, to me, say, "My head wasn't in the right place to start this season. I'm now trying to do what it takes to be an NHL regular." Obviously, you don't like it when a player comes in with that mentality, but realizing how he needs to change is a step in the right direction. I will admit that for certain players that I really want to be good for the Devils, I may give them benefit of the doubt too much. So, I am curious to hear what your thoughts were. Regardless, this is why I like how Hynes is handling this situation. For a player with inconsistency issues, "just play them!" isn't always the best solution. Zacha needs to realize that there are consequences to not contributing where he should be, and for Hynes to achieve this in a supportive and motivating way shows that he's doing a good job.

2 points tonight makes this road trip a positive one. I'm feeling a response game. Something just feels different this year, like they are actually breaking down the films of the issues and they are heading in the right direction of correcting things. But a win tonight and some momentum to come home with.

I was thinking the same thing. When I saw the lineup I initially looked at it funny for just a second, but then when I thought about it it seemed like the right thing to do. Put him on the wing where there's less pressure, he won't have to worry about faceoffs, and we can have him just try to do some work along the boards and cycle the puck. Let's play a full 60 minutes - would be nice to get a win today and Wednesday and start a nice little streak heading into the holiday weekend.

Yeah I'm not crazy about that either. Stefan was one of the biggest busts of all-time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm not really digging Zacha's mentality from the quotes in this article: http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2017/11/devils_pavel_zacha_out_to_prove_what_he_can_do.html#incart_river_index Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There will be a goal from the fourth line.
  16. NFL Week 11

The way cars are built today -- especially if you're a guy like Glenn who could afford to buy a nice car -- it almost definitely has to involve not wearing a seatbelt. If I was ever taught something as a kid, it was to always wear my seatbelt, to the point that now I just feel uncomfortable when I'm not wearing one.
  17. NFL Week 11

The funny part about that is later on Glenn became a 'Parcells guy' and followed him to Dallas. I hope this wasn't a case of being intoxicated or not wearing a seatbelt, it's usually at least one of those two things when you hear about a car accident. But either way way too soon for this guy and anyone else at that age.

LGD, keep your feet moving or be benched.... Zacha is a very good back checker, will that be missed at wing?
  19. NFL Week 11

Former NFL WR Terry Glenn has passed away due to a car accident...was only 43 years old. He was a bit of an underachiever as a player but definitely could be quite good when he was into it. He's best known for being the first domino to fall with regards to Bill Parcells' departure from NE...basically, after Parcells' third season in NE which saw that Pats finish with a very disappointing 6-10 record, the organization overruled Parcells (who wanted to take a defensive player with his first round pick, seventh overall) and selected Glenn in the 1996 draft, as they felt that Bledsoe desperately needed a true HR-type hitter to throw to...Parcells completely botched up the receiver situation the season prior, and I think that some in the organization were starting to feel that Parcells didn't know how to get the best out of a QB like Bledsoe. As one could predict, Parcells then basically became miserable and mopey and made his final in NE all about him, and when once asked about Glenn's health in the preseason (I think he had an injured wrist, I forget), Parcells famously replied "She's fine." Glenn had a solid rookie year, but was known for being both soft and a bit lazy...he cracked 1000 yards four times and had some terrific games in his 137-game career, but seemed like he could've (probably should've) been so much more. Yet another reminder about how you never know when your last day is...RIP Terry.

    Ooof, brutal defensive game huh?

    I’m just happy they’re leaving Hall-Hischier-Palmieri together. It’s a legit first line.

I know theyre hot but that Minnesota lineup looks very beatable. Come on boys, biggest game of the season!
  23. GDT: 11/20/17 NJ Devils @ Minnesota

Man, I'm really digging that top 6. I agree with Jason in that I think Zacha is much better suited for wing.

  25. NFL Week 11

He's obviously not upper-echelon, and not necessarily a guy you would ask to get you to a SB someday, but geez, was he ever so bad for the Bills that he deserved to get benched for a guy who clearly wasn't anywhere NEAR ready to play in a NFL game, much less start one? At least if you're going to play that card, have someone who at least gives you the slightest chance to be as good or better than the QB he's replacing. It seems like the Bills thought "Shoot, we've lost two games in a row, what should we do?", then blindfolded themselves and threw a dart at a spinning wheel of "So what now?" scenarios. Well, we landed on "Bench the Starting QB"...guess we should do that. I think you can make an argument that the Bills' coaching staff could deserve to get canned off this decision alone.
  26. Week 12... Well isn't that nice? Week 12 we saw the Giants upset the Chiefs 12-9 in overtime... which really upset Big Blue and Picking teams from a hat... they're out. I didn't say Value in that group; so maybe he emerged victorio.... Nope; he's a no show. So Week 12 knocked everyone out. Yahoo doesn't have tie breakers; so coming in 1st is that trio. ....and as commish; I'll just break ties the fairest way possible. Whoever survived the longest without taking their strike. 1. VALUE (Weeks 6/11) 2. Picking teams From a Hat (Weeks 5/11) 3. Big Blue (Weeks 4/11) 4. New Jersey Swamps (Weeks 5/6) 5. The Champs Pick-o-the-week (Weeks 4/6) 6. Aylbert (Weeks 3/6) 7. Eaglejelly (Weeks 2/5) 8. Goodell's Advanced Gestapoism! (Weeks 3/4) 9. Jarek's Phenomenal Set (Weeks 2/3) But if Picking from a hat and Big Blue want bragging points; they can just point to their Yahoo 1st place trophy as my meandering words don't amount to much
