Albany lost to Bridgeport 4-2. Wiseman scored the first Devil goal with assist from Harrold and Urbom. Sislo added the other Albany goal on a penalty shot. Kinkaid stopped 19 of 22 shots in his professional debut. Wiseman was named the 2nd star. Here is the game sheet. Below are the highlights (limited but better than nothing I suppose):

There next game is against Connecticut on Friday at 7.

The New Jersey Devils have assigned defensemen Joe Sova and Harry Young to the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL, the Albany Devils announced today.

Burlon still hasn't suited up for Albany yet but I guess they'll get him in the rotation this weekend.

Albany picked up their first win of the season with a 3-2 shootout win against Connecticut. After falling down 2-0, they got goals from Whitney and Anderson (PP, assist from Sislo and Zharkov) to tie it up. Taormina scored the only goal for either team in the five round shootout. Kinkaid stopped 30 of 32 shots and was perfect in the shootout earning the 1st star. Whitney was named the 3rd star. It was a fight filled game with Zharkov picking up his 2nd career fight. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights.

Their next game is against Worcester Saturday night at 7.

Albany fell to Worcester 6-1. The lone goal scorer for the Devils was Zharkov with assists from Gionta and Urbom. Frazee made 25 saves on 31 shots. Here is the gamesheet. I'll edit in the highlights if a video gets posted...

Their next game is tomorrow against Binghamton at 4.

K-Wings defeated Cincinnati 3-1: Clermont (DNP), Young (+1, 2 PIM, 1 Shot), Sova (E), and Haczyk (2 Shots).

Zalewski had 7 shots and Taormina was the 2nd star and the video below shows the nice move he put on to score the goal. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights.

So Jeff Frazee's got a 6.0 GAA after 2 games... Maybe Clermont would do better as Kinkaid's backup?

Clermont hasn't cracked .900 in SV% in the QMJHL. I know everyone around here hates Frazee because he's old for a prospect, but he'll probably split games with Kinkaid (who hasn't been Georges Vezina either so far), and he'll be fine.

blog.timesunion.com/hockey/new-jersey-recalls-kinkaid-again/9783/

Kinkaid’s recall to New Jersey was foreshadowed by fellow Devils’ goaltending prospect Maxime Clermont, whose tweet earlier this morning hinted that he had been reassigned to Albany, suggesting that a roster spot would soon be opening at the AHL level.

With NJ, Albany, and Kalamazoo not playing till Friday, I assume all of these moves are for practice and we probably won't see Clermont get into an AHL game. Unfortunately I wasn't aware Clermont had a twitter account and it has since been shutdown like McKenna's was a few years ago.

Albany lost to Hershey 4-1 after giving up 4 straight goals. Zalewski (Corrente, Veilleux) was the only Devils goal for the night. Frazee stopped 19 of 23 shots. He's off to a bad start through 3 games: 16 GA 62 Saves 5.33 GAA .795 SV%. I'm not sure how much of that is his fault and a product of the team in front of him. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights:

Their next game is Saturday against Adirondack at 7.

Kalamazoo defeated Toledo 6-3: Young (E, 1 shot, 5 PIM - Fighting), Sova (PP Goal, E, 1 Shot), Haczyk (E, 1 Shot).

Some Albany notes from Hockey Spoken Here:

Devils D Alexander Urbom was a healthy scratch for the first time this season. D Brandon Burlon, who has played only one game, also was scratched, as were LWs Chad Wiseman, Vladimir Zharkov and Mike Hoeffel. The latter three all have lower-body injuries and will not be available for Sunday’s game at Providence. … Coach Rick Kowalsky wouldn’t commit to it after the game, but rookie Maxime Clermont could make his pro debut in goal Sunday. Jeff Frazee has played the past two games, and Kowalsky said he wanted to use both goalies this weekend.

A lot of quotes if you click the link for the full post.

http://blog.timesunion.com/hockey/devils-notes-zharkov-back-on-practice-ice/9909/

ALBANY — Albany Devils forward Vladimir Zharkov, who has missed the past three games because of a lower-body injury, resumed practicing with the team this week, although his return date is uncertain.

Devils coach Rick Kowalsky said Zharkov, who last appeared Oct. 16 against Binghamton and has played five games total (1-2–3, –3), is “day to day” and could play in one of this weekend’s games.

The Devils play Friday night at Binghamton and return home Saturday to face Hamilton.

Forwards Chad Wiseman and Mike Hoeffel have not resumed practicing and are out for this weekend.

Newly acquired Steve Bernier did practice today.

I suggest clicking the link to read all the notes. Kowalsky talks about Urbom, Burlon, Kelly, and Clermont.

Albany lost to Binghamton 4-2 despite getting 44 shots off against the Senators. Scoring for the Devils was Corrente (PP, Whitney and Zalewski) and Veilleux (Whitney and Harrold). Frazee stopped 33 of 36 shots. Whitney was the 2nd star. Sestito was tossed with a match penalty, apparently checking Filatov in the head. Binghamton goaltender, Lehner, was apparently the first one to confront Sestito but no brawl or goalie fight broke out. Here is the gamesheet. I'll post highlights if any are made available.

Their next game is Saturday against Hamilton at 7.

Kalamazoo defeated Chicago 3-1: Sova (Goal, +2, 4 PIM - Interference, Tripping, 5 Shots) and Haczyk (+1, 1 Shot).

Albany beat Hamilton 3-2 in a mostly-empty (due to the snow, which wasn't as bad as in NJ but still annoying) Times Union Center. Announced attendance was 2433 but there were only a few hundred fans in the building. Devils goals were scored by Whitney (assists to Perkovich and Corrente), Sislo (Veilleux and Anderson), and Zajac (Zharkov). Zajac got the #1 star, Sislo got #3. Jeff Frazee put in another solid performance after a shaky start to the season, stopping 21 of 23 shots. The save of the game had to go to the goal post, though, as a Bulldogs scramble with under a minute to go produced a shot that caught the iron.

Veilleux and Gabriel Dumont got into a dust-up off a faceoff in the second period. The linesmen broke it up before it turned into a full-fledged fight, but because both players dropped their gloves, they each got roughing penalties for their trouble. Bulldogs defenseman Zack FitzGerald, a former River Rat, took exception to Zajac's goal by slamming him into the boards, earning himself a boarding minor and the jeers of the assembled crowd.

Albany continues their 5-game home stand Wednesday against Binghamton at 7.

Thanks for the update RowdyFan42! I'm not sure how many games you get to attend but if you want to do the recap for those games than go for it. You can definitely provide a lot more insight into the game than I can looking at box scores. Also, I'm not going to be around until Sunday so if you or anyone else wants to post for this weekends games than go for it. Both Albany and Kalamazoo play Friday and Saturday.

Albany defeated Binghamton 3-2 on Wednesday. Scoring for Albany was Whitney (PP, Zalewski and Wiseman), Bernier (SH, Zajac), and Gionta (Urbom and Zharkov). Kinkaid picked up the win against ex-Devil Mike McKenna, stopping 31 of 33 shots. Gionta was named 1st star and Bernier 2nd star. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights (includes Kinkaid trying to score an empty netter :P ).

Their next game is Friday against Norfolk at 7.

Kalamazoo: Devils Prospect Joe Sova is ECHL Plus Performer of the Month

Kalamazoo Wings defenseman Joe Sova is the AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for October after leading the league with a plus-minus rating of +8.

Sova was even or better in all five games in October, including a +5 performance in a 6-5 win over Cincinnati on Oct. 29. After posting an even rating in his first two games of the month, Sova posted his +8 rating over the course of the final three games of October.

The 23-year-old Sova is in his first professional season and has two goals in five games. He made his pro debut last season appearing with the American Hockey League’s Albany Devils scoring four points (1g-3a) in 11 games. Sova played three seasons at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks scoring 58 points (13g-45a) in 115 games.
