Devils @ Rangers OGT: 3PM Game 4

Well, I did go to this game. I wore my Ortmeyer jersey proud. And of course, he'd be the guy who gave the Blueshirts their only lead of the series. Maybe if Mr. Softee Michael Nylander was paying attention, he might have learned something instead of skating in circles away from contact. He was a joke the whole series. Heck. I even saw Straka throw a clean hit today. I can't even kill Sykora. I saw him throw another hit and once again hit another post. Man was he hexed. Jagr plays one shift and then reinjures his separated shoulder on a hit. That's how the whole series was. Like a recurring nightmare.

The turning point was the Rasmussen boarding call. It was a 1-0 game at that point and he destroyed Hollweg. How that's not at least a doubleminor I can't understand. I'd love to hear an explanation from Bettman about how inconsistent the boarding calls have been all season. The league needs to address that. Not that it would have mattered much. Anyone who followed the series knows even if the Rangers somehow got a 4:00 or even 5:00, they would've skated around on the perimeter and overpassed the puck driving fans even more crazy. I still can't believe Renney didn't put out the grinders to start one when it was painfully obvious our skill guys wouldn't do what it took to score.

Meanwhile, the Devils got two on theirs by being more simple. Gomez scored another one that Lundqvist wouldn't have allowed if he was right. That really swung the momentum. Then Elias redirects a Gomez pass and suddenly it's 2-1. That's how it's been.

The Rangers were only down one but as usual did its best to finish the job. Whoever gave the puck away to Gionta that summed everything up. Four SHG. The Rangers allowed 3 all season.

Also saw Tyutin get lit up by Elias. That was a nice goal. He was the best player in the series. Guess it's fitting he ended it.

I ran into Roland Dratch and Larry Gaines as I was heading back to my seats. At least that was nice.

Anyway, again. Congratulations to your team. The Rangers were outclassed in this one from the drop of the puck.

Thanks a lot. It's tough sometimes being a Ranger fan. But I wouldn't trade it for any other team. Ever.

P.S. Where was Larry? Some fans chanted at the end. LOL

The Rangers sucked big fat hairy circus elephant balls in this one.

PPPPPUUUUUUUU

some thoughts from the game that might have been missed on tv:

devils fans did represent. i would say there were about 1500 there spread out and about 100 pretty concentrated in the 3 sections around me (339) including Bauman who got a D-E-V-I-L-S chant going at the end.

for the most part, rangers fans were very civil to all devils fans i saw, but there were fights at the end and one ranger fan threw his beer down on a devils fan near me and got a bunch of ranger fans drenched, one of which went to try and wail on the guy.

a couple rangers fans were VICIOUS on some of their own guys - poti got the most abuse.

at the end, with 30 seconds left and more than 1/2 the building empty, there was a loud lets go rangers chant that showed me a lot from their fans. the rangers' players' salute to the fans at the end of the game was also very classy. as much as i hate the rangers, these guys are going in the right direction and have connected with their fans unlike the me$$ier rangers of the last 10 years.

To this end - it was great to see on Gionta's goal, shown from a camera angle looking out at the net from above the crowd - a surprising number of hands went in the air when he put it past Lundqvist.

I thought the Let's go Rangers chant was a bit odd considering how thoroughly they were dominated - Devils fans would absolutely never do this if we got swept by the Rangers, and especially not in this fashion. Then again, every Devils' loss in the playoffs for the last 11 years has been a disappointment - the Rangers season brought hope back to Madison Square Garden, and it was nice to see the fans recognize that. In this series we had a return to the late 90s days when the Devils would simply outwork and outhustle the Rangers and dominate them all over the ice - still, the Ranger fans recognize that some of the softer players will soon be gone and that management is committed to winning.

Just able to go online... what a great series .. *HIGH FIVES EVERYONE*

As Sundstrom wrote I was glas to see the Dev fans around the garden -especially when Gionta scored and the shot from behind showed many arms going up in celebration. I will admit having jitters before the series but I will also say that this takes the sting of 94 and 97 a little away.

Yeah, I agree. That really impressed me at the end of the game. The guy next to me seemed knowledgable about the game, too. (Except for the "Marty's overrated" bit he kept repeating.)

Great pics as I will get to plaster my office with emails to the Rag and Flyer fans who continue to think they have won something like a Cup since 94' and 75'.

JD is a pecker.

Thank you Devils and especially Elias for that fantastic move he made to score the 4th goal!

JD is a pecker. Forever. He has won nothing. Let him yell at the refs on national tv like he did today during the 2nd period in St. Louis.

They will learn that he is a pecker there also.

Homer and scumbag always... JD.

Pretty accurate sundstrom. I sat next to a Devil fan. He was alright. Took a little abuse but that was expected. I told him to ignore it. Shook his hand and gf's when it was over. And hung out till pretty much everyone cleared out. I was hoping to see JD come out afterwards. But he didn't. That was his last game at MSG. Looks like he's leaving for the Blues. I'll miss him. Good luck running that franchise. He'll need it.

Up where we sat, Nylander and Strudwick got the most abuse. LOL...I was on Nylander during one of his pansy shifts in the third. Poti didn't get much ire above. He didn't deserve any. I can't believe it. The one season they got back in and by the end of the year, he earned a lot of respect. If he's done here, I wish him luck wherever he winds up.

actually I kind of like JD's analysis. Every so often he slips into homer mode...never as bad as our beloved Chico and his "All Right Marty!" But color guys are allowed to be biased goodballs at times.

Listening to the last Rosen/JD broadcast...it was kind of subdued. Didn't seem like he was leaving, I would expect more of a sob story then.

Apparently if you win the Olypmics and several Stanley Cups, your still building up your resume.

that reminds me of something Doc said the other night while recapping a huge save by Marty. All ironic and Doc like he goes "That kid just might have a future."

Awesome fight in section 305 which was next to me. There was sooooooooooooooooooooo many more Devils fan's there tonight than there was for game 3. I have nothing else to say but THANK YOU DEVILS!!!

I forgot to add that I was sitting in section 304 and after the first goal Bobby Granger went running by celebrating and fell and busted his knee he looked like he was hurting and he was limping around the rest of the game.

wow, Bobby Granger really exists? I thought he was just an actor.........sorry to hear he Jagred himself after the first goal.

Im not sure how those commercials started but I think he is an actual fan that they picked to do those commercials, he was sitting in the 300 sections for games 3 and 4. I talked to him during game 3, seemed like a nice guy and seemed like he was def. a fan and not an actor.
