2/13/2011 - Meet and Greet and Practice Tread

The only person I even asked to sign my jersey was Palmieri, but I saw a few guys signing (mostly guys with shorter lines like White). I was trying to not take up too much time with each player since there were just so many people there but for the most part if you wanted a quick autograph the players were happy to oblige.

I thought that they've organized things a lot better, but yesterday was a huge step backwards. One they could have been avoided if they planned properly (rumors make it sound like they DEFINITELY weren't expecting that many people to show up).

Which makes you wonder what the purpose of stopping people from printing out the tickets days before the event is. Ostensibly that's to show how many people are gonna attend but if they're gonna guess anyway then what's the point?

You would also hope they could come up with a better weekend to do it in the future where you're more likely to see a full practice instead of an optional skate.

I saw most players signing except Kovy, Marty, and Zach. I watched Marty tell about 10 people "Sorry I can't." I heard one kid started crying hysterically and Marty signed, lol

Im sure having to tell kids no sorry hurt for any of the players. Its different at the end of games because they all just busted their asses and want to just go home and relax but at events like this, it sucks having to say no. I know most people think that "They get paid enough and with out us fans they would be nothing." but thats not the case. I still have yet to really meet a player who is really deep down an a$$hole and doesnt sign when they can.

My thoughts on yesterday:

First, I want to thank the Devils for allowing us to watch a "closed" practice and for the Meet & Greet. I thought the idea was great and it's always fun to talk to the guys, shake their hand, etc. So, a big thank you to the organization.

Now, to the bad part of yesterday - I'm not sure what kind of piss poor planning job was done, but that was TERRIBLE. The practice area was mobbed with people and turned into a standing room only, only have one Lounge open with food was a disaster and not opening the entire concourse for the players created absolute chaos. Add on top of that people standing in line waiting to meet their favorite player, only to get to the front of the line and be told the player would be back in 20 minutes. At that point, some of the "security" personnel with the players told some people that the player wouldn't be coming back to the same spot, others did not and that left quite a few pissed off people (especially those in Marty's line).

I agree with you here, it was poor planning and I think its the staff they have working at these events and not the Devils fault, IMO. the lines to get into the lounge was clogged up by people placing "special orders" for food. The whole counter was full of food yet everyone was standing waiting for their own special order.

I wish we could view more practices. I really miss the days at south mountain arena, where you could see practices every weekend they were home, get autographs, and kind of meet with the players a little.

It was still a very cool event to offer STH but can definitely be handle better and it starts with the prudential staff. IMO

The lines to see the players are the most confusing. They should use more of the concourse, and have the "lines" pre-laid out and "roped off" so a orderly line forms. Spacing them out is also key, it was crowded where the players were packed together.

All said and done I am surprised at how orderly it was considering the "lack" of planning. I like how Parise had an "exit" plan so he could hobble out of the arena by just walking back a few steps to the stairs/elevator if needed... The others were "Trapped" by everyone... LOL

took me a bit to get my pictures up. Over all it was a great time. Fun talking to everyone. I got 6 autograpahs 4 pucks and 2 cards. I hope to do this again or something in that measurement. When do they do the devils bbq? I'm really pissed my picture with me and rolston didn't come out good. I really wanted a picture with him the most. I have always like him as a devil.

I took that shot of the empty arena I think it looks awesome! I just wish it was the ice and not the court.

Wow... tree and Colin look like they could tangle with any one of the team and give them a run for their money if not pound 'em solid :P

I play goalie and well 3 things one its was hard finding leg pads that I was comfortable with all seems to small. Same thing with stick all seem to short for me. shoulder pads as you can see i have wide shoulders and the pads would be to short longways so they would bunch up.

tree, what camera did you use? Looks awesome

I used sony a33 d-slr. I still have to play with the settings and try a new lense. Over all it is a awesome camera.
