  1. You're right. Didn't think about the possibility of injury. I would really like for us to sign Appleby. It would be a solid signing, and boost our goalie pool towards the top of the league, in my opinion. I guess he could play in ECHL if we sign him, or best case scenario, he takes the Albany job and Wedgewood would be an ECHL starter, where he belongs. Wouldn't be bad to have Kinkaid, Blackwood, and Appleby all behind Schneider. With seeing the hauls commanded for backups with starter potential like Jones, Lehner and Talbot, it's not an awful idea to keep some assets in the pipeline.
  2. I would of just offered the guy a contract over Danis
  3. I'm happy about the spending and return on investment comments. Do we really want Shero to go out this summer and throw insane money at plugs like Beleskey or Stafford? Let the Rangers, Flyers, or anyone else do that, please.
  4. That's a good idea! Hanifin should be NHL ready, and on a similar level to Merrill, despite being 5 years younger. Edmonton is most likely looking for a defenceman with #16, but it could be a reach taking a defenceman at that position. Instead they get a young top-4 LHD, who can step in right away. Throw in Reece Scarlett, he's a project but an Edmonton native that could become a Petry-lite for them in a couple years, and a 3rd or 4th. Really try to avoid trading them a second, but we may have to. At the #16 range, you're looking a guys like Konecny, Harkins, Merkley, a faller, maybe Kyle Connor. I've seen that Sens fans really like Konecny as he's an Ottawa kid, and played junior there. Maybe even drop down again, and pick up a small ransom. Something like #16 for #18, #42/48, and Chaisson. Chaisson gives us a guy that can maybe be a second line RW, which is a hole we have for next season.
  5. A primarily black jersey without the circle and white background behind the logo would look nice. With the whole "Jersey's team" theme, maybe just the J in stead of the N as well would make for something different. something like this actually, but a little more black in the mix. Get rid of the white piping, and make the red a lot smaller. Make the shoulders all black too. Also, it might be stupid, or impossible, but maybe add the flame design from Marty's helmet at the bottom of the jersey, and on the ribs. Probably would need permission from Marty's artist though.
  6. I'm closer friends with Flyer fans than any rangers fans. In my opinion, I'm more tolerant of Flyer fans. The Ranger fans I know are smug.
  7. Mercer County here. Its a tough call. Its considered central, but I'd say it's 60% Philly, 30% Rags, 10% Devils.
  8. Shero pulled off one of my most favorite trades in the last five, maybe ten years. Trading Neal and Niskanen for Goligoski was a heist. Niskanen for Goligoski makes it a wash with the slightest edge for Pittsburgh, and getting Neal back in the process made it an absolute steal. They were able to get solid production from Niskanen, and got a goal scorer they needed in Neal. As for playoff appearances, they made back-to-back finals appearances in 08 and 09, winning one. They exited in the second round of 2010 when they faced a hot Halak and Cammalleri with Montreal, who also ousted the top seeded Caps. Might've experienced some burnout themselves with cup runs in previous seasons. 2011 I give him a huge pass. The Pens were probably destined for a cup that year. Crosby was firing on all cylinders that season, at least until the Winter Classic game when Steckel ran into him and triggered concussion problems. Malkin went down soon after, but the still Pens almost defeated Tampa in the first round without their two superstars. 2012, the Flyers got into Pittsburgh's head and Fleury was a disaster. Probably helped us out, if anything. Pittsburgh seemed to outmatch us in the regular season that year, and we were able to walkover Philly in the semi-finals. 2013, Shero was poised to make them contend when he acquired Jokinen, Morrow and Iggy. They made it to the conference finals and were shutdown by Boston. 2014, second round exit to the Rangers. 2015, Shero and Bylsma gone, Pens almost miss playoffs and get eliminated in the first five games of the first round. Give them a pass due to beat-up defense, but still not a great first season for Rutherford. If anything I feel Bylsma was the one to go for not coaching well enough, and mix it with some terribad playoff goaltending performances from MAF. Shero made moves to help strengthen the roster and surround his superstars with adequate talent. In the cap era, he did a good job finding players like Kunitz and Dupuis, who've complemented Crosby to this day. I wouldn't rest the drafting solely on his shoulders. They were able to turn most of there 1sts into NHLers, despite drafting in the later part of the first round recently.
  9. Just slap the C on Schneider, Stevens if he our coach next year, or whoever we draft with our first this year. Just slap the C on the draftees jersey as he puts it on at the podium. A silent way of saying we expect big things
  10. I read somewhere that Reilly Smith is ineligible for an offer sheet under the new CBA. I think it applies to any player that has less 3 years experience at the pro level. I would love to offer one of the Rags RFAs (Zuccarello, Brassard, or Kreider) an offersheet. Just to put them in a harder position. Kreider would be ineligible, I believe. Which sucks because he'd be the one I most want.
  11. Here's what I think would make the team most balanced Cammalleri-Zajac-Jagr Ruutu-Henrique-Ryder Clowe-Elias-Havlat Zubrus-Josefson-Brunner There's a solid physical presence on each line, as well as a decent finisher.
  12. Oh yeah, I didn't forget him. When I said best skaters, I meant literally lol. Black and Johnson are two of the better skaters in terms of speed, agility, acceleration, etc.
  13. Corey Pronman tweet about Ben Johnson tonight. "Ben Johnson (NJD) has had an impressive game. One of better skaters in the OHL. Contributing at both ends." Good to see we possibly have two of the best overaged skaters in the CHL with Black and Johnson, that seem to play two way games. Should be interesting to see how they transition into the AHL. While forward draft picks haven't been amazing, it's good to see Conte and crew going after a few low-risk, high-reward picks. Not only have we drafted two quick forwards, but two of the better shooters out of the CHL recently, Boucher and Bell. Throw in some interesting two-way guys and we could be able to stock the bottom-6. Literally, building from the net out. Only thing that will need to get addressed is top-6, in my opinion.
  14. It really sucks losing Larry Robinson. I feel he was a player's coach, which is ideal for a team with a ton of promising defense prospects. You want young players to learn from their mistakes, but to see that young players in the past under Deboer played scared, is awful. You want an assistant like Larry, who is insightful and helps a young guy shake off a mistake, and not shake in fear of being benched or sent down. I remember many times when Larry was here and they'd cut to the bench, you would see Larry lean over a player's shoulder and explain things to them. You need that kind of coach on your staff. I do not see anybody currently doing that as often as Larry did or even Oatesy. It is good to have a coach that is willing to take a player under his wing and show him the ropes, not punish and regress them. Larry seemed to have a special bond with certain players and he seems like a genuine guy.
  15. October 14th, 2000 against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. We won. My only memory from the game was that I was banging on the class where Gomez was standing during warm-ups. He turned around, smiled, and slapped his stick on the glass right where my face was. I'm sure most here hate the guy, but that is a memory that will stay with me forever.
