  1. Did we really do that again? I missed the end of the 1st and start of the 2nd.... It's infuriating enough to not score a goal on a 5-on-3, but to not even get a shot??? That's incredible. If you're the probably coach, or even the (interim) head coach, how do you possibly explain that?
  2. Isn't the whole idea of that to get something for the guy in March, then re-sign him? As opposed to re-signing him in March and not getting something.... Disregard. I thought you were asking why, but I can see you were asking how often happens. And in that case, I agree with you - I think it's seldom, if ever.
  3. Yeah, no excuses tonight or Tuesday. We're coming off two days rest heading into tonight's game, and Tuesday we'll have three days off in between. Boys ned to empty the tank every single game from here until potentially the playoffs, and then obviously thereafter as well, if they happen to make it. Realistically, I think they can only "afford" to lose one, maybe two games the rest of the way, and they might even need to take one or both of them to OT. 9 games left leaves us with a max points possible of 94 if we won them all. Usually that's right around the cutoff. The most important thing, really, is winning the games against the Flyers and Isles. Lose those, and we're almost certainly done. One step at a time .
  4. I really think games 81 and 82 both might be incredibly meaningful, with potentially three teams getting in or getting eliminated from those outcomes.
  5. Really can't ask for anything else - the three teams ahead of you all lost. Too bad the Isles won and leap is temporarily, but if any team had to win, we wanted it to be them. Devils need to bring their A game tomorrow, and with a win, things could get extremely interesting, being only 4 points out.
  6. Don't wanna jinx anything, but Caps losing to Leafs, and Isles Panthers tied 2-2.
  7. Of course the Caps and Wings went to OT, and Flyers too, but at least the Flyers didn't win outright. Would've been better if the Wings won instead of the Caps, but it is what it is. We took care of business though, that's all we can do. We beat a good Leafs team tonight, even if it wasn't the prettiest win. Gonna have to do it at least once more before season's end, and get a little help.
  8. I was going to make my first ever trip to Canada and see this one in person - for various reasons including the Devils sucking and seeming to be out of playoff contention, I decided not to. Let's Go Devils.
  9. Yeah, it's been said before, but if the season ends with us on the outside looking in like it looks like it might, there will be plenty of games to point to on the schedule as missed opportunities. With that said, if we can somehow win tomorrow, we have a few days off where things could get really interesting. Flyers could lose to the Rags, Caps could lose to the Wings (in regulation), then on Thursday Isles could lose to the Panthers, Wings to the Canes, and caps to the Leafs. Is it asking a lot? Yes. But is any of that unreasonable or improbable? Not really, no. Would make Friday's game against Buffalo almost certainly do or die for both teams.
  10. I won't root for anyone else until the Devils are mathematically eliminated, but I'll probably hope the Caps get the final spot once we're done because the Wings are arguably the only team who deserves the playoffs less than us. This team simply hasn't played well enough to get in. And that's a reflection on all of them. They've had stellar goaltending for 5 games and they lost two of them, Vegas and Ottawa, because they couldn't score more than a goal or two.
  11. I'm missing this one. 12 shots? Losers.
  12. And somehow the Flyers beat the Bruins. Our luck is unreal.
  13. If they tie or lose their game in hand, we'll still be no worse than 6 points out of the wildcard spot. The good news is most of the teams in front of us have a tough schedule. Tomorrow Flyers play the B's and Isles play the Jets, and Wings play the red hot Preds. Very realistic that those three teams lose and we could pick up 2 huge points if we win against Ottawa like we're "supposed" to. Sunday the Caps play the Jets and Flyers play the Panthers. With any luck we could have both of them lose. Safe to say that this weekend likely defines the rest of the season and whether or not we'll have a chance to squeak in. It all starts with taking care of business and doing what we have to. The rest will fall as it does.
  14. I give Allen both. If the team is serious about making the playoffs, he has to start nearly every game left. It's amazing that we still have three more back to backs, and maybe Kahkonen gets one or two of those, but I'd do it later on when the playoff picture is clearer. We could be out of the race by then if the teams in front of us don't lose a couple games, or if we lose some. But we gotta give ourselves the best chance to win, and right now that's unquestionably Allen. Let's Go Devils.
