Swede
I was thinking of something. If elias won't be ready until after christmas and insurance will pay for his salary, will that amount count against the cap? Think I read somewhere that its total spendings for the year, not the figure on paper that counts, so if the devils don't pay for elias, then they should be able to use that salary on someone else
Don
(A) Lou said that Elias will miss the beginning of training camp, but insinuated that he should be ready for the start of the season. (B) You are correct. If someone on your team is injured and insurance is covering them, you don't count their salary money towards the cap. So let's say that the Leafs are heading to the playoffs and a week before the trade deadline Sundin gets injured. They can then make a trade of prospects for a star that some other team has no intention of resigning. So there may still be salary dumps, but the circumstances have to be just right. HellOnICE
When was this Don??? Elias will not be ready for the start of the season. My problem with Elias salary is that you can't go ahead and offer him top dollar, and not know what you are going to get injured or not. He can come back and never be the same ya know. Swede
Thanx don. I hope that Lou is right about Elias. The reason for asking is that I have read on other boards speculation that if Elias misses a lot of time, Lou might not sign him in order to save capspace. Elias being UFA next year and all (I think they are wrong about him being UFA 06-07)
Don
I think that when one says that Elias *might* miss training camp and that things are progressing better than expected, that insinuates that they would be ready to start the season. The Post article today says that Elias still isn't working out, but he can do more and more exercising each day. The viral counts are low and he's feeling much better. The article starts out with saying that Elias is unsure if he will be ready for the start of training camp. Unsure seems a whole lot better than dismissing it out of hand. But I'm holding you to your word that he will be out until after Christmas: http://njdevs.com/forums/index.php?act...ndpost&p=281009
Swede
Don, I just read the post article, it sure doesn't sound like he will be ready to play anytime soon. if he gets tired after 50 feets of walking right now and only can walk and stretch I can't see him ready for play when the season starts... I hope I'm wrong though
Don
If that is the case, then HellOnIce's credibility stays intact. But, you just don't know with this type of thing. When I was sick last winter, the doctor said that it might be Hep A or just a random stomache flu (which is just another virus). He said if it got worse, then he would start up the blood work to find exactly what virus we were dealing with. I went a month where I felt like sh!t. It just wasn't getting any better. I didn't feel like eating. I had no energy. I was taking the bus two bus stops to work. I wouldn't have made it walking. And then in a period of 3 days, I suddenly got 100% better and was out playing broomball.... we don't know when you're going to feel 100%. We've got the end of July, all of August and part of September. For the first game of the season, we've got all of September and part of October. I think he will be ready, but I'm not going to state that emphatically. We don't know.
HellOnICE
What does this have to do with my credibility. If I hear the New Year, if he comes back at Thanksgiving or Christmas, since it's not 2006, my cred is shot. C'mon man. Thing change and it might be earlier, but I'll bet my ***credibility**** that he will not be in training camp as part of the regular team. He may be skating, but ya know what i mean. You stated as a FACT that he would not be back until the new year. Unless you are a medical doctor that has examined Elias, I don't think you are privy to more information than what is said in the papers. My *guess*, and I won't state it anywhere near as fact is that he will be playing opening night.
