devils and habs trade proposal

If the Canadiens were in the basement of the NHL, maybe. If they were cash-strapped and thinking of watching Plekanec walk away, maybe.

But they're in contention for the playoffs, God knows they can't rely fully on their goaltending just yet so they need their offensive weapons, and Gainey's already looked into contract extension negotiations with Plekanec.

Interesting thought, but no way MTL does it.

I was kinda hoping this would be a ridiculous thread that involved the Devils somehow re-acquiring Gomez or Gionta.

The Habs aren't trading their most effective player. Tho interesting as Plekanec is up. But he probably gets re-signed. He has been a real good player who's had a solid career for them. Plus they're playing better now. That Latendresse-Pouliot deal really worked out for both clubs. If the Habs added some blueline help, they could be a tough out.

I wish we would trade up for a Ilya Kovalchuck kind of player

Why? He plays absolutely no defense. A second line center like Plekanec would be perfect for the Devils, I think. If Montreal starts to tank, like, now, then I think there could be a chance at this deal being reality. If not, they'd want NHL ready talent for their playoff push.

devils trade - tyler eckford and nick palameri/vasyunov

habs trade - tomas plekanec

parise zajac langs

elias plekanec bergfors

rolston zubrus clarkson

pando nieds zharkov

i think this trade makes us an extremely strong team and gives us good center depth.

You should head to the praries with Sutter...

Last night was not a good start on the tanking.

 yeah, I know. The possibility of Montreal tanking far enough to be willing to give up Plekanac for a couple of prospects would take a lot between now and the deadline, especially when the Olympic break is factored in. Simply put, it ain't happening.

Although Tomas Pleckanec would be nice fit if the team your talking about is in the playoff picture(which most are) it won't happen especially here in the east. If we were to acquire a #2 from a playoff team they would want one in return so I just never see it happening. There are only a few teams you can look to as trade partners that will meet your needs. Personally I would like Mike Ribero.

What I don't like about this trade proposal is Palmieri. This kid really looks like he has a future as a player.

This should be a very interesting deadline especially with Olympic break and all these UFA's.

Not happening, Habs aren't gonna trade away their best player for a couple of unproven prospects. Also they intend on resigning Plekanec so trading him away probably wouldn't help their cause. Although I wouldn't be against us trying to sign him this offseason...maybe the captain of the Czech Olympic team could have some persuasion in him signing in Jersey.

There's not many out there of his ilk. But, a guy like him would certainly put punch in our 2nd line. Our top line is the only one contributing at the moment.
