Safe wishes from NC. Judging by the users that are on the boards at the moment, it looks like there are few, if any, people who are actually in Jersey at the moment.

Yup, I hope as many people back home are doing okay as possible. There's no way that everyone is though, not with those winds and that storm surge. The Governor said that railcars were washed onto the Turnpike. And 2.4million NJ customers without power, so I guess most of our friends here won't be able to be on the boards today. The stories coming out are amazing, so stay safe, and good luck.

I'm about 10 minutes from Princeton. Lost power over night, but it's back now.

Damage to NY is apparently pretty bad, as was the damage to the coast.

Seeing the photos from Monmouth and Ocean Counties it looks like most of the boardwalks, amusement areas, and first 3-5 blocks in from the ocean are completely destroyed and resemble a warzone right now.

A lot of trees down by me in Burlington County/Camden County, but nothing too serious. Of course, a tree on my street wiped out the power lines, so I've been without power since 6 p.m. yesterday.

my buddy's neighborhood in rockaway beach was apparently terrible.. massive rivers, mad houses burning down.

South Jersey also got annihilated, as I'm sure you all now

I'm in Philly where literally almost nothing happened

Lost power (still not back on, who knows when it will be), and my satellite dish is in a bush, but I'm ok. Hope everyone here is doing ok. It just breaks my heart to see what happened to the shore. I can't believe this sh!t is real. I tear up when I see the pictures.

I lost some shingles off my roof and the fence around my pool took some damage, but it could've been worse. My neighborhood had its fair share of downed and uprooted trees. Nothing compared to the shore points though...holy sh!t...

THE NHL MUST LOVE THE DEVILS - from who else? A RANGER fan!
[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?
- Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.

Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

My parents in Belle Mead, NJ still don't have power back (as of 3 hours ago).

Best wishes everyone from California.

Got my power back at 4:30. That you utility guys who are working their asses off 24/7.

When will we learn to bury our power lines?
http://www.cnn.com/2...ines/index.html

The winds may howl. The trees may fall. But in Germany, the lights stay on.
There's no Teutonic engineering magic to this impressive record. It's achieved by a very simple decision: Germany buries almost all of its low-voltage and medium-voltage power lines, the lines that serve individual homes and apartments. Americans could do the same. They have chosen not to.

Some places do. Probably costs too much to do it everywhere.

Question, did Germany start burying its lines while reconstructing after WWII?

I collect spores, molds and fungus.
Hello fellow American. This you should vote me. I leave power. Good. Thank you, thank you. If you vote me, I'm hot. What? Taxes, they'll be lower... son. The Democratic vote is the right thing to do Philadelphia, so do.
How do you spot risk? How do you avoid risk? And what makes it so risky?

I don't when they started it. As long as I can remember the power lines were always underground, except for some very rural areas. When I lived in Germany power outage was such a rare event. I never had experienced being without power for multiple days before moving over here. I am sure with all the money people spend for generators and emergency supplies for all the storms you could have easily dug in the lines.

That is correct in terms of when they started burying their cables.
