MadDog2020
First off, great win tonight- I was at the game, so I didn't find out about this situation until I turned on the FAN leaving the parking lot- but the Devils game was apparently blacked out on FSNY on DirecTV tonight, as well as the Islander game on MSG. Why? Well, apparently, Cablevision- owning the rights to broadcast those games- didn't have an agreement with DirecTV to do so. Many fans of both the Devils and Islanders- myself included- called Steve Somers to vent about this problem. I called DirecTV as soon as I got home, and the guy told me that as of yesterday, they still were negotiating with Cablevision for the rights. But he said that apparently, an agreement was reached UNOFFICIALLY today, but not in time to broadcast tonight's games (we DirecTV subscribers can only hope that's true). When I asked him WHY no one was ever told about this problem, he said that both parties wanted the negotiations fly under the radar and be done by the time the season started, so no one would have ever had to know, and DirecTV and Cablevsion wouldn't have to deal with the PR nightmare that would ensue. He went on to say how this blew up in everyone's face. When I asked him if the Devils-Flyers game would be on Friday night, he said- and I quote- "I hope". Yeah. Me too. Satans Hockey
I remember people outside the garden during the devs-rangers pre-season game handing out something about cablevision and getting hockey back on it, but I didn't pay any attention cause I have time warner cable. MadDog2020
I talked to a friend in Bergen County with DirecTV, and he was watching the game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is that right? Because I heard it was blacked out along with the Islander game according to Steve Somers. Trust me, I hope this is much ado about nothing. Anyone else who has DirecTV please let me know if you had trouble or not getting the game.

The one Islander fan that called said the game was on for a minute and then it was blacked out right after it started. Hopefully it's just confusion, although the guy at DirecTV admitted tere were neogtiations going on between DirecTV and Cablevision.
njdevils_info
The school I am at uses a mash of DirecTV and I got the game just fine tonight... However it is possible that because I am at a school, I am part of a different service level that was not affected by this?
olp
I live in Morris county (Comcast country) and the Devils game was blacked out on FSNY with DirecTV, but got the Islanders game on MSG. We also got the Flyers meltdown on OLN. Not sure if we'll get it all year, but we did get the HD Hurricanes/Tampa game - might be because we have the HD package, I don't know. I will say this much - once you start watching hockey in HD, it's sure hard to go back to watching it the old way.
mddevsfan
I have DirecTV and Center Ice, and it was acting kind of odd last night. I live north of Baltimore, so I'm well out of the Devils area, but I also get FSNY with the Sports Pack. The way this is supposed to work, the game on FSNY is supposed to be blacked out, to get me to buy Center Ice. But it wasn't, so I had the game on two channels. (Center Ice used the FSNY feed, so no Pens announcers) I went to check the Caps game at the first intermission, and the CI channel was blacked out. It's supposed to be, since I'm in the Caps local area, so that I'll have to watch it on the channel with the local rights, Comcast Sports Net. So I switch over to CSN, and its ALSO BLACKED OUT! Any ideas what the heck is going on? I'm so very confused...

eldon
North Morris county, Devils & Islander games were on. Devils game on Directv was actually about 5 seconds faster than on Cablevision. Usually if we have an NFL game on both, the Cable feed is about 2-5 seconds faster. I thought this was odd.
El Diablo
North Morris county, Devils & Islander games were on. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I absolutely agree - I watched all games last night (I noted that on the live game thread) including the Bruins game from NESN -- later on I was surfing through the Center Ice channels (which I dont subscribe to) and some were actually available - Avalanche/Phoenix/Vancouver/ others I cant recall... There was 'technical' issues with the feed in the third though - pixalated picture/ no sound towards the end of the game
gjohnsen2002
Somerset County: Both Islander and Devils games were blacked out last night. But for some reason I got NESN out of Boston. I got all Center Ice games (since its a free preview weekend) except for the Devils and Islanders Call D* customer service, but they are absolutely clueless as to the problem, when it will be resolved, or how to remove there head from you know where... CaptainRafalski
I have Directv and live in Cumberland County, the Devils games are never blacked out. I think the contract thing may be right because I can't even watch the normal FSNY or MSG with my sportspack. The Devils and Islanders games were the only games blacked out on the Center Ice ticket and I had to argue with my dad because he thought that it was a "blackout". We even called Directv and the idiot there, while trying to help us out, took away ALL of our channels! So we had to spend another 30 minutes on the phone just trying to watch CBS , it was a fiasco

sammyk
Yes, the free previews occur every year (at least since I've had it) and they will return in January if the past is any indicator.
jaydeeeee
okay here it is tied up into a neat little package: 1. the dolans of cablevision are playing hardball with another cable/satellite company. they've done it with yes, they've done it with time/warner, they did it with msg before they owned it, and now they are doing it with directv. 2. the games were blacked out on directv....if you received them then you are outside of the metro ny area. 3. it's time for the nhl and congress to break up this monopoly owned by the dolans. i'm sure that if you own a cable tv franchise (cablevision), cable tv sports stations (fsny & msg), and an nhl franchise. this isn't any sort of conflict of interest/monopoly? 4. if the devils are blacked out this friday (today as i notice the time), then it's time to start writing congressman/senators, lou lamoriello, and gary bettman to put an end to the dolans! go devils!
