Just wondering if you remember this from post #628040:

"what do u mean farm... we have kevin weekes moron"

So, how do you feel about that comment now that he is the #1 goalie? To me, and God I hope I am wrong, it looks like we are going to get a higher than usual draft pick this year.

I am glad to hear that he should be 100% by February. I hope Weeks can last that long as a #1

I dont get why before so many people said play Weekes, hes a great goalie. Now when we have him as our starter for a long period of time, everyone is screaming for a trade. Then what happens when everyone comes off of IR, if we get say Roloson...what happens when Brodeur comes back, and we cant get any help for our apparent AHL quality team that cant be trusted with Weekes in goal. Where the hell is the faith in the team, you know Brodeur wont be around forever, and maybe this is the best thing to happen to the Devils as Weekes wont steal games like Marty did, but its so unfair to expect that from him. It will force the offense to do something, or changes will be made, and hopefully those changes will help the most, and we might not do much this year, however its not because we imploded, its because we were injured. I think this is the greatest test of my "fandom" and I am looking forward to watching the Devils play not because of Brodeur but because now the team has to show that its not all Marty, and after 1 game I refuse to throw in the towel on this team.

This post was started because I was called a moron for asking back in July who do we have in the minors that is at or close to playing in the NHL on a full time basis. I don't think Weeks is the answer, not then and not now. He is a great backup goalie, but not starter quality in my eyes(see Billington) LL hasn't drafted a decent goalie since Brodeur, and please don't say Ahonen, have you seen his minor league numbers?

I agree and disagree. Living in Carolina I can vouch for Weekes as a #1. Living in Carolina I can also vouch for him not being a #1. He does not have the consistency nor can he carry the workload Marty has, not many goalies can. Weekes can be a #1 with a solid back up, which we do not have and therein lies the problem. I don't think anyone asking for a trade for Roloson is saying they don't trust Weekes as a #1. They are saying they do not trust Scott Clemmensen as #2 when he has to play more than a couple of games. I don't trust anyone except Marty with the team we are putting on the ice right now. I'm not that sure that I trusted Marty. Maybe when some of our other injuries are better and Rolston et al. start producing consistently, I will feel better. Nevertheless...GO DEVILS!!!

Lou and Conte should have started adressing the lack of goaltending options in the organisation 2 drafts ago MINIMUM.

We have prehaps the worst depth below NHL level in that position in the Whole NHL.

...and as I said in another post, Scott Clemmensen would still be the 3rd goalie on the depth chart, regardless of whether or not Lou actually did get a goalie.

As for Weekes, let's not delude ourselves and call him a possible #1. He's drifted around the league because he clearly has talent, but has lacked consistency. He has that kind of Curtis Joseph ability to stop 5 difficult shots and then let in a soft goal. He's a backup goalie - but again, you just never know. He played very well on Monday night (he didn't play excellent, he let up some bad rebounds and had the bounces gone right, the Sabres would've been up 4-0) - good enough to keep us in the game, and that's what he's going to have to do. Let's see this team get some leads - they've had trouble with that all year.

Why would they? Marty is going to play past 40 without any serious injury, and if something crazy like Brodeur going down 3-4 months happens, then LL had us covered with Weekes who is a very strong backup-who-can-fill-in
