New York Mets 2015 Season Thread

I'd be lying if I didn't say this felt like same old Mets...losing the first two with Harvey and deGrom to a dead in the water Sox team would be hideous. They can win all the big games against the Rockies and Phillies they want, but my confidence is still going to be very fragile until this team actually makes the playoffs, especially after the '07/08 disasters.

And they go down 1-2-3 easily in the ninth. That's definitely early-season Mets right there. At least Uribe ended it, there'd be no end to the eye-rolling if he got on and Wright K'ed.

I understand the "same old Mets" thing to a point, but what standard are we holding this team to? Do they now have to win EVERY game against lesser teams? We know how it works...sometimes teams stumble against teams that, on paper, they should beat.

Hopefully this won't be a lasting thing (god it would be so incredibly disappointing if this team actually tanked), but I can't let a pair of losses after an extended period of winning set me back into "Here we go again" mode. If they have an overall rotten homestand, I'll start worrying a little then.

Re: Reed, yeah, feels like throwing something against the wall and hoping it sticks. But at least he's pitching better as of late, and it also shows that Sandy isn't taking any chances...who knows if Reed will help, but Sandy's trying.

Another not-so-good start for Matt Bowman: 6 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 0 K. His record is 7-16. His numbers with both runners on base and with runners in scoring position are awful, made worse by the fact that he doesn't strike out many hitters (around five per 9 IP). Said it many times, but god I hate that the Mets have their AAA affiliate playing in the PCL.

As for the demoted Tyler Pill...his quick-glance AA numbers look good (5-0 record in five starts, 1.95 ERA, 20 hits allowed in 27.1 IP), but he's walked 15 while only striking out 16. Mets need to have some productive drafts with regards to arms...there's not much left in the farm. Bowman and Pill falling flat on their faces really hurts...it doesn't seem like it right this second, but if arms start going down next season, it could get really ugly really fast.

Joe West is such a fvcking c**t. Fat piece of sh!t. Sorry it's too hot for your sorry bloated ass that you have to pull the "Get me off the field" crap by not calling the game fairly. fvck you.

Don't like the direction of this game. Mets have had zero luck with hard hit balls (all finding gloves or amazing plays being made) and Joe West has been horrible (totally screwing over Granderson and then throwing out Kevin Long)

ugh a cheap dribbling single past zero range murph at 1st and then Noah throws Ortiz a meatball at 3-1 that he crushes to make it 2-1.

4-2 Marlins in the 4th so let's hope it stays that way.

Mets have been held in check by a garbage Boston pitching staff

Terry went a little long with Noah today but I could understand it with how the pen has been taxed of late.

We really should've been out of the inning though if Tejada tags Swihart out at 2nd. Mets have been more unlucky than bad this series

yea, for the fact that he's a lumbering dinosaur in the outfield, Cuddyer has recovered nicely at the plate.

Lot of needless agita this whole series. Really, Boston got a lot of breaks, Mets hit a ton of at'em balls in the outfield and infield that turned into DP's. Boston really didn't come here and stomp on us 2 of 3. Series could've gone either way really.

Good win, 5.5 lead remains as Philly crawls in (looking for revenge I'm sure, just short on talent) while the Nats play St. Louis.

Even with this series loss, Mets are still 23-10 in their last 33 GP.

So curious to see how the Nats play against the Cardinals in their series. Nats are really fighting for their lives at this point...they get swept there and it's probably going to be too much to overcome. Just hope the Mets can take four out of six against the Phillies and Marlins before the Nats series. I'd be thrilled with that.

In fairness to Cuddyer he's been hurt most of the year, maybe the DL stint actually did him good in the long run.  He's certainly hit better since coming off it.

Another positive: since 8/18, the Nats have actually have won four straight series, all by 2-1 counts, to go 8-4. The Mets have gone 9-3 over the same time frame to pick up a game. Pretty impressive that the Mets (who had to come back in a number of those wins) have held off the Nats here. The Mets have picked up a lot of important wins...Nats really aren't giving the Mets much margin for error right now.

Big litmus test coming up for the Nats against St. Louis. They're facing mostly cupcakes the rest of the way (as are we) but this is a big one. Cardinals are playing well and despite their monster record still haven't locked up anything in the NL Central. I will be very impressed if Washington takes 2 of 3 there.

Couple of early September callus have been announced.

Kevin Plawecki - No surprise here. The less we see of Recker the better (though he did have a hit today)

Eric Young Jr - Well we knew he was going to be here eventually. A late inning pinch runner and nothing else

Eric Campbell - A terrible hitter but will draw the occasional walk. Can play a bunch of positions which helps crap hitters like him stick around.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis - Not sure why...we have lefties off the bench now with Conforto and K. Johnson. Can play all 3 outfield positions but it's not like we need help there either.

imho Josh Smoker should've been up instead of Campbell or Nieuwy

Hey good news, gutless Bobby could be back blowing games for us as early as Tuesday. Woo hoo!

http://metsblog.com/metsblog/parnell-could-return-as-soon-as-tuesday/

This team can't purge itself from the holdovers of the bad ol days soon enough. Parnell should never have the ball in any game that we're not up 7+ or down 7+, and certainly never against the Nats

What is laughable is that Logan Verrett is already being treated like a forgotten man...one tough inning is all it took.  But Bobby fvcking Parnell, a completely gutless zilch who had issues when he threw 100 mph, is going to get yet another look, likely in a big spot, where he'll predictably melt down and likely cost the Mets an important game.

We've already got our singles-hitting, potentially mojo-wrecking, NEVER gets a hit with runners on "face-of-the-franchise" back...do the Mets really have to fvck around with friggin' Bobby Parnell?  You've got newcomer Reed, you've got Verrett...can we at least see what they bring to the table before trying to shoehorn another member of the Loser Brigade back into the mix?

And as far as Wright goes, he should be hitting first or second (or even seventh), and not in the power spots.  He's doing a pretty good job getting on base since coming back, but if he's just going to be getting to first base via singles or walks, and not drive anyone home, might as well put him in position to be driven in by someone who isn't a seemingly sure out in clutch spots.

And then of course, is the question I'd like to see answered but one Mets don't seem to be asking:  do they call up Stauffer or Gee to do cleanup work whenever a Mets starter gets knocked out early and puts the team in a considerable hole?  Gee has actually been pretty good in 5 out of his last 7 starts (he even struck out 10 in 6 IP in his last start, and Ks have been hard to come by for Gee), and Stauffer has been solid since the Mets signed him (and clearly better than Gee).  If the Mets want to go with Gee simply because they know him better, fine, I'd much rather see Stauffer, but I'm not sure what the point is in keeping both Gee AND Stauffer in AAA.  Stauffer is averaging nearly 8 IP in his last 5 starts, and on mostly regular rest to boot...is anyone going to tell me that guy can't eat up some innings in blowout games, or an extra-inning game in a pinch?  The Mets have played in seven extra-inning affairs since the All-Star Break...wouldn't it be nice to have a guy who could give you 4+ innings without even working up a sweat (even if he ultimately takes a loss)?  Even Clippard himself hinted that the bullpen is getting a little overworked...and of course Amateur Terry is going to keep riding Clippard and Familia (who have both been terrific) until their arms fall off.

And the upcoming off-day on Thursday is it for two weeks; after that one, they don't get one until 9/17, and after that, they don't get another (their last of the regular season) until 9/28.  Yep, two off-days through the rest of the season after Thursday.  The teams may be on the "easy" side overall, but the schedule isn't.  There could very well be a double-header or two if it rains, which could become a nightmare on many levels in a hurry...and imagine if any of the individual final games of either the Nats or Braves series on the upcoming trip gets postponed.  When do those get made up?  In the case of the Braves, they could schedule it for 9/28 (both teams have an off-day), but it will be a major PITA...the Mets would have to travel from Cincinnati to Atlanta to play one game, then go to Philadelphia.  This may all be moot, but this sh!t does happen.  In the case of the Nats, they'd have to play it after the season (no coincidental off-days).  Imagine having to play a game on 10/5 in Washington after the "final" three-game series between the Mets and Nats at Citi from 10/1-10/4 (assuming that game needs to be played)?

Not saying the Mets have to bring up Stauffer or Gee right on 9/1, but I hope the Sandy and TC at least recognize that the starters aren't the only guys who need monitoring and some rest...and that these two extra arms could prove to be valuable in ways that won't necessary be reflected in pure stats.

Colon doing it to the Phils again. Looks like he has a chance to provide some desperately-needed innings. Just hope it's not a tie game...that means Clip and Familia again. I'd rather see Reed and Verrett tonight.

And apparently the Mets want to see how Parnell looks after throwing batting practice. News to the Mets: every time Parnell takes the mound he's throwing batting practice. Forget about him.

CONFORTO! Nice!

Colon with a hit, Grandy drives him in with a dinger. Keep covering up for Wright...I like it.
