Triumph
Bye Kovy. No way a deal will get done by then. huh? how many deals get done on july 1 alone? it looks like the devils are floating several proposals to the league and if they find none of them satisfactory then kovalchuk will leave. jagknife
And likely a lawsuit. seriously i wonder if it is even possible for us as fans to file a class-action suit against the NHL/Bettman maybe for unfair labor practices? NHL is blocking his efforts Im just hoping this is a huge ploy to force the nhl's hand on approving a contract Edited August 26, 2010 by Zubie#

DaneykoIsGod
Looks like tomorrow is the deadline: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Ilya-Kovalchuk-exploring-KHL-options-as-decision?urn=nhl-265497&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Doesn't the KHL season start in a week? That probably has a lot to do with the Russian deadline.

MDPucks
seriously i wonder if it is even possible for us as fans to file a class-action suit against the NHL/Bettman maybe for unfair labor practices? Nothing unfair about the labor practice when that practice was collectively bargained, signed off by both players and management, and was upheld by a neutral mediator when tested. And the KHL is a complete joke and along with Russian sports is ripe with Russian mafia corruption. Just read Ovechkin's recent interview about how "great" things are in The Motherland. CRASHER
I would think a lot of people that went out and bought 17 in red jerseys when the press conference was announced would have a MAJOR gripe (or anyone who signed up for those over-priced season tickets they're offering too come to think of it ) not like the league or Devils give a Rat's damn/..... Neb00rs
I believe the hype that the Kovy team is setting a deadline for an approval. But don't think the NHL is just going to cave in because of this. They might approve a deal (which I think will happen) but if they don't see a contract they like then it's not going to happen. My prediction is that the league has a couple of deals in front of them and they're going to pick one deal and give the Devs the go ahead.

My prediction is that the league has a couple of deals in front of them and they're going to pick one deal and give the Devs the go ahead. my prediction is that the league doesn't give a sh!t. they've said as much. he's going to be left with a decision. take a huge, but more reasonable sum of money, or take a huge one-time cash payment, or two-time, and wait things out. if he goes, it's likely he has to go for two years, because next year's 7/1 is going to be a bloodbath if there's no "goofy" contracts allowed. unless you see some massive economic uptick coming. he has an opportunity to make $75-80M in his ten years. if it's not enough, frankly, he can fvck off. they can say everything they want about all the different contracts that have been sent it. I betcha that all of those contracts are slight variations on the first one. he's not giving up the money. prove me wrong, Kovalchuk. I am not going to cry for the guy. he just proves he's another athlete, and not the folk hero alot of you guys in Devilsville have been trying to make him into for the last 6 months or so. yes, Bettman is a dick. that's nice, it's also been established 100 times over, if not 1,000 times over. yes, the Devils trapped themselves in a PR nightmare by being proactive/showing up the league. that's true. still, playing off Kovalchuk as an innocent victim is a joke. I bet he wishes he had Waddell's money now. but he thought he could eat his cake and have it too.
NJDevs4978
I believe the hype that the Kovy team is setting a deadline for an approval. My prediction is that the league has a couple of deals in front of them and they're going to pick one deal and give the Devs the go ahead. Well at this point you have to believe if there are several deals on the table, at least one of them has to be reasonable (and certainly at or below the parameters of a deal that's already been accepted for another team). So I guess we'll truly find out how badly the NHL doesn't want Kovy in New Jersey. If anyone's got a case for a lawsuit (providing this goes bad) it's the NHLPA against the NHL for an illegal interpretation of the CBA. Obviously the league doesn't care if he goes to Russia...but you have to hope at some point maybe the other owners start putting pressure on Bettman and Daly to just approve a deal. They don't want to have to deal with this bs either, next offseason or when they want to resign one of their star players.
