The 29th Pick
I dont mind losing a game here and there....but what happened to our good penalty kill?
njd3b1ink
Man barch looked so cool out there on that last play. Glad he's on this team....
DevsMan84
Devils mostly have shut down Crosby and Malkin. JT owns this team, however. With the islanders is always feel like games against them are either a blowout or a struggle. I had a feeling going into this it was going to be a struggle and it looks like I was right. I was hoping for 2 out of three for this Presidents' Day weekend and it looks like after tonight they are going to be 1-1 with Mondays game coming up. CarpathianForest
What was the reason behind sitting Fayne? Every game he was out, we lost.
DevsMan84
I dont mind losing a game here and there....but what happened to our good penalty kill? Honestly this is where I think losing parise hurt the most. He was excellent on the PK.
hit the post
Another loss and another "sky is falling" reaction from this forum. Status quo How true....like I've said many times....you mean we won't win every game.
SterioDesign
Honestly this is where I think losing parise hurt the most. He was excellent on the PK. Thats right. Youll get people denying that but its 100% true.

PWW
Fun fact: The Devils are 0-2-1 when Mark Fayne is not in the line-up. In those 3 losses they have given up 5 goals in each one. If they decide to sit him again for any reason other than injury, they're absolutely bonkers. Edited February 17, 2013 by PWW
NJDevs4978
Honestly this is where I think losing parise hurt the most. He was excellent on the PK. They've struggled on the PK since the beginning of the playoffs last year. Funny how the 'PK specialist' (Volch) continues to play game after game while other guys get scratched, and the PK freaking sucks.

DevsMan84
Thats right. Youll get people denying that but its 100% true. In a few years when his goal scoring starts slowing down I wouldn't be surprised if he spends the rest of the career as sort of a checking center or PK specialist. Though he would be the most overpaid PK specialist the NHL ha ever seen lol
The 29th Pick
didnt our PK kill off like 19 out of 20 before Philly scored last night?

Devilsfan118
Games over, but man what a horrific play by tallinder. I understand the rust factor, but man..
DJ Eco
Last time we lost 5-1 was against the Pens. We then beat them twice in a row on back to back games a week later. Can't win 'em all.
The 29th Pick
Can't win them all ! Gotta play the "Right" way monday and beat the Sens

Funny how the 'PK specialist' (Volch) continues to play game after game while other guys get scratched, and the PK freaking sucks. They sucked at the beginning of the playoffs on the PK last year but got better in the second and third rounds before being terrible again in the finals. I'd say they are more streaky than just awful
Pepperkorn
Agreed! And I don't see why Fayne isn't playing either. He has certainly earned it. I agree too. See you may be making a point sitting a guy - but if you.. well the point made is: even a la-la Fayne is better than a lameass Tallinder. Lesson learnt - Won't do it again. If I'm Fayne that's what I'm thinking. You can't tell me he didn't know damm well what was going to happen I'd have been an equally good sport about the benching Tallinder and Salvadore I just have no faith in. Vochenkov is beyond underwhelming. Why do I even have to pretend I like them? Sal came up with the goods last season -- but man those two are just so UN clutch. NON CLUTCH!! They have no SACK much less filler required. For f&*('s sake do we really want happy good natured defencemen - "ah but he's such a positive guy" "yeah - I just get a warm fuzzy when we helmet bump" CMON!!!! I despair of the whole thing. and I dont know what gives with Volchenkov except a no trade clause. (oh and there is something I like about Zidlicky. I wish not. To be honest, I think it's just because he's Czech -- that, and he looks like Ed Norton and Bobby Holik's love child.) He's an elite player. He looks like that on many nights. I know that made me laugh.... Edited February 17, 2013 by Pepperkorn
njd3b1ink
Just saying. Last season was the first season Parise was ever on the pk. And he wasn't even the top penalty killer.

devlman
What is up with the bonehead penalties lately? Fayne vs Carolina takes a snapshot off his skate and then commits a blatant interference. Salvador tnite takes the dumbest penalty just because he was cleanly bodychecked. Both penalties absolutely killed us.

I'd say the fact that we're 1st in the Conference and all our wins feature only 1 or 2 goals from the opposing team, they must be doing something right. They had a bad night.
