RunninWithTheDevil
22 back-to-backs. most in the league Winnepeg, San Jose, and Colorado have 10, sh!t, the NHL could at least try to be more discreet about the teams they favor and punish... http://www.sportingcharts.com/articles/nhl/2013-14-nhl-schedule-detailed-look-at-back-to-back-games-for-each-team.aspx
Triumph
The Devils want back to backs because they want as many home Saturday dates as possible. With two #1 goalies like the Devils had, it shouldn't've been a problem.

Devil Dan 56
The Devils also went 10-5-7 in the second half of those back-to-backs, so it really doesn't seem to have thrown them very far off. Actually, they fared better in the second half of back to backs. Their record in the other 60 games was 25-24-
SterioDesign
i also think the Devils have the less milleage in the league. Just look at Colorado, they have to travel so fvcking much to play ANYONE even in their division. We can play quite a few teams where our guys can be home few hours later. Devils were third IIRC, in terms of distance in their season schedule.
'7'
The Devils had, for many years a very easy travel sched. I forgot which year it was, but one year we didnt have many back to backs and such an easy travel sched that they literally went a month without ever sitting on a plane for more than 2hrs. I could see a lot of gm's bitching about this until the league finally took it out on us last year.
Derlique
I think the Rangers travelled less miles and had 10 less b2b
SterioDesign
i just think the conspiracy theories are ridiculous. Cmon let's not act like Habs fans.
Triumph
I think the Rangers travelled less miles and had 10 less b2b Because they don't need home Saturday dates to sell out. Teams get to request stuff and the league can try to accommodate it.
Mitico12
I don't think that this is an entirely NHL developed strategy to bury the Devils. I'm sure the Devils have a lot of input on how the schedule goes, especially because they are required to give the NHL dates that the Pru Center is available. I wouldn't be surprised if the Devils were in the driver's seat in developing this schedule because Saturday / Sunday games are a lot more profitable - both in ticket sales and television advertisement. Pass on this subject because I think it really doesn't matter...it's just as moot as the shootout.
lucifer91
Because they don't need home Saturday dates to sell out. Teams get to request stuff and the league can try to accommodate it. This. I would think the Devils and the league would want the Devils (or teams like the Devils) sell out games. Better attendance numbers = more sponsors etc.
Colin226
Yeah I'm with Tri, I think this was good for us with Marty and Cory both wanting ice time.. B2B's were a great excuse to split starts, taking pressure off the coach to make that call and keep both guys happy. On a side note, since it was mentioned, I'll never ever sympathize with pro-athletes over "tough travel".. Gear packed and carried by equipment manager, bused from the arena right to their plane, quick wanding for "security" on the tarmac, private jet with amenities like food and leg room, and direct flights wherever they go. Then they stay at the Four Seasons or equivalently top-shelf hotel and can afford to buy whatever they need if they forget something.. Yeah that sounds rough
Mike Brown
I'm not surprised the Devils had the most back-to-backs since they have the easiest travel schedule. I am however very surprised that the gap between the Devils and the 2nd place teams was that big. Devils had to play over half their season in back-to-backs. That's fvcking crazy! I NEVER like making excuses, but that is just insane.
RunninWithTheDevil
i can see why Colorado and Winnipeg get less because they're in a no-mans land of population, but San Jose isn't really 'out of the way' in terms of neighboring teams, and the Devils are within 20 miles of NYR and NYI, and they have a decent amount less; that the first thing i noticed when this was released. Chimaira_Devil_#9
I posted this in another thread but our record in back to back games wasn't that bad at all. We picked up more points in back to back games than those after a break.
