Neb00rs
Why do I feel like those here whining about the 'stupid kids' who are entitled and idiotic fans, were once those EXACT fans? Get over yourselves, every fanbase has all types of fans and every older generation of fans hates on every newer generation of fans. Perhaps we will lose so much this season that all of these 'stupid' fans leave and we can be back to 14,000 people a night. It's like we always need someone new to attack around here. When we are all done with DeBoer, we move on to some 4th line schlub, when we are done with that guy, we move on to the fans. I'm in 120 which can be pretty bad in terms of fan stupidity. But I do like my location (behind the net, on the aisle) and there aren't too many sections with a lower price point. Crappy seasons like this I could probably sneak into another section if I really needed to get away from the nonsense on a game-by-game basis, well after the 9th anyway cause the next few games should be pretty packed. Part of me's secretly hoping this season cleans out some of the dreck there And why would you want that? I know you're half-joking but we shouldn't exactly be picking and choosing as far as fans go. Be happy that there are people in your section on a consistent basis. We need these fans. Edited December 22, 2014 by Neb00rs
devlman
It's severe amnesia and delusion for anyone thinking fans weren't booing and saying bad words years ago. Today's fan base is far more knowledgable (thanks to the internet) and respectful than ever before. This whole thread is just fans bitching about fans bitching. vadvlfan
PDB is in agony, and probably can't wait to be let go and go home and move on with his hockey career. I'll bet he can't wait to see Newark in his review mirror. I love my Devils, we're just going through a rough patch. I understand impatience after years of success. If Lou has a hair trigger for coaches, he must believe in PDB. I think Pete might've sealed his fate w/ his comments from last game (caps being a far more superior team")

RunninWithTheDevil
I'm with HOI with his original post. Their is never a time I can consider our fans as "classy" like in Montreal. Booing the coach with this group? Are you kidding me. Am I missing something? Why does everyone seem to think Montreal has "classy" fans? Its a fan base full of relentless douchebags. I havent met a single Montreal fan that i remotely liked, and every experience I've had at the games they've all been COMPLETE DICKBAGS. Spoiled little whiny a$$holes who boo'd a HOF goalie until he literally and rightfully flipped them off and left for Colorado, and they almost boo'd off Price in the same fashion. I get the winning history part but I really don't get why they're so praised everywhere. So they sung the national anthem a couple times, big fvcking deal. You don't even have to go back to 1986, I can remember back in 2000-04 the fans were not nearly as bad in terms of behavior as they are now. It seems almost mandatory to have someone every few seats to curse non-stop during the entire game while any sort of wanting to have a sliver of a more "family" atmosphere is taboo. I know it is unrealistic to expect everyone to be well behaved at sporting events, but is it possible we could cheer largely without either cursing non-stop or saying "xxxx sucks"? Every home game I have been to there have been more chants against other teams (including ones not even playing against us that night) than there were "lets go Devils" or other chants supporting the players on the ice. We are on the exact same page with the first bolded part, zero question about it. If we'd actually chant in support of the team while occasionally mixing in the high school, I just learned how to taunt, chants for the other teams, it wouldn't piss me off nearly as much. Second bolded: A guy in my flight is a Wild fan, some of the best hockey conversations I've had are with him so that I can agree with. Satans Hockey
There are definitely less actual fist fights in the stands between fans than what i remember from years past. Back at the Meadowlands there use to be way more fights. I think having less fights in the stands has more to do with people not wanting to lose their jobs because they are on youtube fighting Edited December 22, 2014 by Satans Hockey

Also these days there is a system where you can text an issue in before it escalates ( I have used it a couple times in the last couple of years). Back at the old barn this didn't exist either. John Wensink
The old place was more wild west. That walkway around the upper tier allowed for a lot of sh*t to go on and down. Just went there for disney on ice, don't miss it.
HellOnICE
Sections are also smaller, especially the upper tiers - you're always being watched a little more closely. In the CAA - those upper sections had like 25 rows in them. Now there's no more than like 9.
Devilsfan118
Meh, our fan base isn't any worse than the other New Jersey based teams' fanbases. It sort of comes with the territory - stereotypes aside, New Jersey-ians speak their minds freely. That's not saying it's okay or acceptable, but you're not going to have a totally PC arena experience until that state culture changes. And regarding other fanbases - the grass is always greener guys. I saw someone mentioned Montreal as a 'classy' fanbase, yikes. Just because you don't see the worst of the group doesn't mean it's not there. The Habs, to continue with this example, have some of the most obnoxious and entitled fans in the league. There are idiots everywhere. You just have to brush them off and realize that no one actually takes them seriously. Let some idiot boo Cory, scream about trading him - Lou and PDB ain't listening, and the players certainly don't care. I'm seriously starting to think it might be advantageous for the Devils to introduce 'family friendly' sections or something. You're not going to avoid the 'Rangers suck' chant or the (awful) chants during the new goal song. But you could potentially avoid the general swearing and stupidity. EVERY SINGLE time i'm at a game, I cringe when that chant happens. it is so unbelievable idiotic. I haven't seen anyone use the "you suck, you swallow" insult since like middle school, seriously. it is such a weak chant. I usually just yell "LETS GO DEVILS" as loud as I can during the chant so i don't have to hear it.

Colorado Rockies 1976
Yes many of them are idiots. But there are sensible people in the arena who are tired of having their intelligence insulted by mgmt and are letting it known. Here are the issues: -In danger of missing the playoffs 4 out of 5 years -Still keeping around a coach who has made the playoffs only once -The same coach who has teams blowing leads like no tomorrow since his Florida days -People paying these ticket prices(seasons or single games) for a lousy product that is NOT entertaining in the very least -There have been clubs in pro sports with lousy ownership yet they've been able to put on a competitive, entertaining team. So to not put any blame on Lou is ignorant. If you're going to tank fine. But tell the fans what's going on and how you plan to move forward. You've always been one of the poster boys for the entitled crowd. Yes, they're likely going to miss the playoffs four out of five years...obviously not ideal, but they DID get to the finals in one of those seasons, and this is really the first season that looks like it's going to be a full-on bottoming out. They recovered to make 2010-11 more respectable than it really had any right to be (though they clearly weren't as bad talent-wise as that first-half 10-29-2 record suggested). Unlike that team, I think this bunch probably is as bad as the record suggests...the talent that could improve the Devils' overall performance is too either too old or injury-prone to make a consistent difference. What do you expect Lou to say to the fans at this point? Right now I don't blame him for not saying much, because he can't win. If he puts up the white flag, he'll be criticized for giving up on his team before the season's even half-over. If he says that he expects that the team will turn it around, whether he believes it deep-down or not, he'll be knocked for sounding out-of-touch and clueless. His actions so far are speaking pretty loudly: he hasn't canned PDB (and Lou is never shy about firing a coach if he thinks that's the problem), and he hasn't endorsed this team publicly. I think Lou knows every bit that even fully healthy, this team is not good, and there's no patchwork moves to be made that will make much difference. Just because Lou doesn't say "I'm going to start trading all of the underperforming veterans, or guys that don't fit into our long-term plans" out loud doesn't mean he's not planning on doing it. This season is pretty much done, especially with so many teams having games-in-hand on the Devils., and Lou knows it. That actually gives him the luxury of time to figure out exactly how he's going start dismantling this group...which means I wouldn't expect any announcements as far as his gameplan goes. We also don't know how secure his future with the organization is...this is pure speculation, but he might have less power right now than he's used to. The owners let him spend (Schneider, Greene and Cammalleri got pretty nice contracts, as did Elias last season) and they're not exactly getting much return on their investments so far. I think a lot of things might be up in the air right now. Edited December 22, 2014 by Colorado Rockies 1976
DJ Eco
There's a real line in the sand for me on which Devils fans I can't stand. There's a larger and larger contingent of fans almost rooting for Schneider to fail. They're booing him this year, and they rooted against him last year when Brodeur was with us. A 1-0 (let's not count the ENG with 0.3 seconds left) loss on Wednesday and 3-0 (not including ENG) loss on Saturday are all on Schneider, according to this contingent. No mention of goal-scoring, no mention of anything. Goaltending lost the game, they say. It drives me up a wall and the more we lose the more these people are popping out of the woodwork. People still want Marty, and you'd think that 7-4 game he lost a few days ago would've quieted that sentiment a bit, but it hasn't.
