GDT: Devils at Preds 8pm

Chere was quick to write that article, so I am sure there is truth to it. He's probably accumulated a ton of these stories over the years where he's amazed that the team was able to fly back that night after a game while his plane was delayed. It's not that crazy to think some staff or players anonymously told him what Lou did to get them home.

I definitely don't think it's fiction but it's still all second-hand info.

I'd say something, but I don't believe anything Chere says and it's not like he claimed to have direct sources.

So what, Lou convinced a pilot once to take off. It's the pilot who makes the final call and if he agreed, then it's on the pilot. Then Chere says another pilot refused to take off, but who knows what Lou said there. He could have simply asked and the pilot refused, doesn't mean Lou pressed hard to have him take off.

I dunno, this story just sounds weak and Chere's been whiny about Lou all year.

buddy of mine was in Nashville said he saw Lou buying souvenir jelly before the game. I think the pilot was tipped off not to piss him off or he would have been reaching into his carry on.

Honestly though probably four of the last six periods were fine for what the Devils are, but really there's no excuse to come out the way they did in the first tonight, the way they did last Saturday, the way they did Monday for two periods against Edmonton.

It's not about a good period here or a good period there, the quotes right there completely ignore the fact that Schneider stopped 67 of 72 shots (.931 save percentage) to give you a chance at all. If you can't notice that, then you are going to keep saying, "we were right in it with a chance to win" or think you had turned some corner in late January when in fact it was just great goaltending and not much else.

yup, cory was 920 for pete and 940 for the new crew, and the team is healthy at forward. sislo and sestito are not requred...I understand lou needs to keep this team together and be somewwhat positive..but dont take credit for fabricated nonsense, and lame moral victories..again its BS

And of course YOURE gonna defend Lou again lol youre one hell of a kool aid drinker sir. Simply denying anything Lou could do wrong.

Its Lou's team. Risking flying in bad weather and putting lives at risk like that when the pilot adviced not to? You cant sugarcoat that.

You'd find a way to crucify Lou even if it was a story about him saving a baby from a fire.

There's also a difference between being factually correct and exaggerating the emphasis on some details, which I don't doubt Chere does.

That's what I'm saying.

It could just be that Lou once convinced a pilot to take off in bad weather, but Lou isn't a pilot and doesn't know what is safe and what is not when it comes to flying a plane. The pilot needs to make that decision based on his experience not what anyone else says.

And again, the bit about a pilot refusing could just mean that Lou asked politely and the pilot said no.

If that were the case, the story is still factual, but Chere makes it sound like Lou demanded the pilot take off when there's no hard proof of that.

You're calling out Kool aid drinkers and listening to Chere?!? He hasn't been credible in years!

And lou hasnt been credible in years either. They are actually both on par when it comes to their job quality.

Look at ALL the bad signings, the terrible roster management, the horrible roster structure, all our lost assets, nothing to trade, our team is the oldest in the NHl, no speed, no skills, no good faceoffs guys, 2 head coaches!!!! the team itself is a joke and all we get is typical "status quo" non-sense and denial about what the whole world is seeing. Hes not even willing to admit that we need a rebuilt. Teams who went the right directions accepted what they are and made the right moves, lou as been in denial for 3 years now.

How in hell should we support that guy anymore? For what he did 15 years ago? Then geez lets bring back brodeur then.

And PLEASE dont tell me "hey he built a strong group of young D and got a good goaltender. Allllll the team in the nhl has something good and are way better balanced that we are. Theres no sugarcoating our situation. Were going downhill.

Why are there so many dead horses in one place and how did so many Pac-man break from the video game world, sprout arms, acquire sticks, rally at a single location and begin beating the hell out of said dead horses?!?!

well it was a response to someone's post who still thought Lou was relevant. IMO posters protecting and finding excuses for Lou and denying anything wrong he can do is just as annoying as me bringing this back

Maybe Pete really wasn't the reason for lack of accountability the last few years after all...if anyone had ANY pulse on the bench they'd have already gotten their **** handed to them for dead-ass performances like Anaheim, Montreal, Pittsburgh or tonight weeks ago.

I think at this point there's no use screaming at players for not having a pulse so to speak.  I think the guys behind the bench are more or less evaluating our roster up and down, basically preparing for next year.  I know it doesn't seem like it, but I think they actually have throw in the towel hence the reason for not lighting a fire under these guys.  They've come to the realization, finally, that we aren't making the playoffs, again, and that we need a pretty big overhaul.  Our roster is full of guys who aren't getting it done and really have no place on our team, and I think each game now is just an evaluation of who might be "safe" and able to return next year, and who is nothing more than dead weight.

I pretty much think like others have that Lou needs to step aside this summer.  Things are just not working and have just gotten worse with each move he has made the last few years.

I am not saying all of the results are his fault and I understand there are several instances where he had little to no choice, but the part that is scaring me is that his last couple of seasons show a former great GM who is out of ideas.  We replace PDB with not another HC or even an interim HC, but instead himself again (for the 3rd time in the last 10 years) and 2 former assistants.  I mean way to think outside the box there Lou.  He could have hired Torts and while I am not sure if that would have had a positive affect on this team, at least it shows he is willing to go outside his comfort zone a little bit to solve the teams troubles.  He is still working and thinking like a GM from the 90's up till 2005.  That doesn't fly now anymore and I am tired of "solutions" being nothing more than former, over the hill (usually) Devils who turn out to be nothing more than bandaids.  This is what this team looks like now to be honest.  Just a collection of stop-gaps, band-aids and tired re-treads.  I think Lou has done a hell of a job but it's time to move on and I think it would also be best if Conte follows him out the door as well.

I agree with SD. We should be angry about where Lou has the franchise, not defending him. He may have been saying it a lot and for a long time but I think he's justified now. A lot of us are tired of Lou.

All good things come to an end. It's impossible to keep a team competitive for ever, and when your players move on you no longer have the depth to replace them. It's a cycle  of sports, but Lou tried to fight it too long. A lot of us are tired of Lou, agreed. But a lot of us are also tired of paragraph after paragraph from a guy who's been a broken record for years.

I'm starting to think this way too... Fresh blood. Clean slate. It's time for this franchise to have a new identity. It's 2015. Time to live in the now. Edited by MadDog2020

Absolutely agree about Lou. I'd go as far as to say he was one of the best (if not the best) GM's in the league for around 15 years. I love what he's done for this team. But since the lockout in 2005 I don't think he's really gotten how the league has evolved. As far as SD goes I know everyone gives him sh!t around here and no one really sticks up for him. At this point I think he's been right about a lot of things. I figured I agree with him about Lou so I'd show a little support.

You seem to think that the broken record you keep playing is relevant, yet you keep on going too.

Go ahead and name five better tradeable (and ones the Devils would be willing to part with) "assets" ..... I'll wait....it could take a while

it's pretty much:

1. Zid

2. Jagr

3. ummmmmm

4. errrrrrrrrr

5. Ryder

.....oi

I guess that's true. Personally I don't think anyone other than Schneider, Cammalleri and Severson should be unavailable. I'm not saying I'd give everyone else away, but I'd listen to what people had to offer.
