NJayDevil
Assuming all players accept qualifying offers, even though some probably won't.Did factor in Parise but not Suglobov. Here is my rough estimate. Make corrections if needed. Signed Players (23 for $35,312,000) *Contract Value not known Roster Martin Brodeur ($5.24 million) Scott Clemmensen (450G) Sergei Brylin ($1.52 million) Grant Marshall (760G) Richard Matvichuk ($1.36 million) Krzysztof Oliwa (836G) Jay Pandolfo (836G) Darren Langdon (450G) Erik Rasmussen (532G) Zach Parise (925G) John Madden ($3.9 million) Jeff Friesen ($2.28 million) Patrick Elias ($4.18 million) Scott Gomez ($2.2 million) Viktor Kozlov ($1.74 million) Colin White ($1.71 million) Jamie Langenbrunner ($1.65 million) Paul Martin ($798G) Brian Gionta ($627G) Sean Brown ($450G) David Hale ($758G) Brian Rafalski ($4.2 million) Dan McGillis* Vladimir Malakhov ($3.6 million) UFA (1) Scott Stevens <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Elias' 4.18 might not count against the cap since he will be on IR at the beginning of the season. Is that how it works? How will his money be implemented into the cap once he returns? Stevens shouldn't sign for too much because of his condition. Palffy, Kariya and Selanne are still out on the market with around 4 or 5 million left (maybe more if Madden's contract is $1 million lower). thefiestygoat
I am not sure how the IR counts against the cap and other things. I am just providing the most accurate info I have found so the experts here can discuss and such. As I said though, any corrections are welcome. Cerberus
Including 1.1M for McGillis: $42,102,000 if Madden really does only count for 2.4M: $40,602,000 Paying too much for Malakov hurt. (to give some fodder to the Nieds-haters) Edited August 4, 2005 by Cerberus
coldply123
Apparently some of you have failed Math class. We are definitely not over the limit.
Cerberus
Is the list above wrong? Nobody has corrected Fiesty except for Madden's salary. It is pointless anyway because it isn't fair to assume all RFAs will sign their contracts.
SueNJ97
They are over. Even if Madden is at 2.4, they are over. That's including the backup goaltender & Parise, that is. And Lou did say he wanted no players in Parise's way re: making the club - can't imagine he'd want a little thing like THE CAP there as well. If you take out Brown, Parise, assume that Madden is at 2.4M they are under the cap, barely. And if you put Parise back in, take out Brown assume Madden is at $2.4M and assume Kozlov isn't coming back, they are at $38.4M. If you do all of that and then make red's season by trading Freisen, they are at $36.2M Excel spreadsheets are so wonderful.
Jas0nMacIsaac
First NHLPA which is players association has McGillis at 2.2 million. Why does only 2.4 of Maddens salary count against the cap. I never heard that before until I seen it here. Also why does only 1 million of Gomez's contract count against the cap...He was qualified at 2.2. msweet
I still say we are over the limit right now. If Elias is on the long term Dl, we are still under.

Z-Man
They are over. Even if Madden is at 2.4, they are over. Well, Madden signed a 5 year, $20 million contract after the 2003-2004 season. http://www.thefourthperiod.com/nj45.html If the cap rule states that you take the average over the life of the contract, wouldn't it be: $20 million less 24% = $15,200,000 divided by 5 years = $3,040,000 cap charge.
