Your Thoughts About: #6 Andy Greene

Andy is rock solid. You need these type of players to win. I do think he may have been hurt last season as he looked a little off in his play. He goes under the radar for sure, much like Stralman in TB. I was a big proponent of Stralman in camp that year with us.

Been an excellent dman for a number of years and certainly underrated during that period, but it'll be curious/interesting/scary to see how he progresses in the coming two-three years. He's entering what is often the decline years, and let's just hope he ages gracefully and not rapidly.

you know, it's interesting because if you ask me "what is Andy Greene good at?" I'd have a hard time answering. He's not an offense dynamo, he's not overly physical, not particularly speedy. He's just solid all around, makes smart decisions on the ice and positions himself well. It's a bit like a defensive Elias, which hopefully means he'll age well.

Question for you guys - at what age (or rather, what season) did Andy become that bona-fide #1 defenseman, in your opinion?

I remember early on, he was kinda the whipping boy for a bunch of people (myself included, I'm sure).  He seemed to take a long time to really develop.. I remember some truly lousy seasons early on.

Without a doubt the captain this coming season. imo.

Hmm...09-10?  I think with defenseman, you gotta look at their ice-time.  Andy Greene saw a significant bump in that year.  Now I'm only looking at Average ice-time.  Easily one of his first good seasons,  37 Points, 6 goals.

Was the reduction in ice time after 09-10 (in the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons) only due to DeBoer using him less, and using guys like Harrold and Salvador a good deal more?

There was one season...08-09ish I think...when he was still getting healthy scratched by Sutter early on. Those games, we would lose, and games where he played, we'd win. The #AndyGreeneEqualsWins hashtag was born on Twitter and 2MA, and that's when i remember him becoming a solid defenseman after a few years of growing pains. I think he became a number one guy in the last four years or so.

Definitely my next jersey.

I know this isn't really relevant to evaluating Andy Greene as a player, but I just wanted to share one of my favorite Greene memories. Maybe this sticks out to me more because I was lucky enough to be at the game, but the way it quieted the crowd was amazing.

we havent gotten to see too many games like this with the devils in a long stretch of time..all too often it always seems to be the other way around for us through the last couple of seasons. Exciting hockey is the best!

Everybody can shot me down but i would say we must trade him in deadline or trade him in deadline next year

and why would we consider trading him? He is the last senior d man we have.. people think u can jist toss all of these kids on the ice and dump everyone that's a year above 30. Whos going to mentor these young players... the way you type of people think will have is ending up like the oilers

Im understand it, but we havnt offensive talanted we need and green is a only one who is tradable, intersting for market and organisation have to replace. Before he gets older andhis contract is going to be a problem. (My thougnts are about next deadline more then deadline of this year)

Another thing i talk about and think about is draft when las vegas and quebec going in to the league

As i remember we can protect 5 defensmen with some expirience in the league. So i dont wanna lose some young player or unprotected green for nothing.

As with this hypotheticals, it's always the return. However, I do like the thought process.
