NFL Week 16

It's chaos this week what can I tell you?? Working, shopping, getting retarded drunk for my birthday, I'm all over the damn place... I just now can sit down and catch up and get to the things I enjoy, and we only hvae two of these oh so special football Sundays left

:evilcry: .... so just make the MOST of them would ya???

Thursday Dec 18:

Colts at Jaguars:

Well the Jags did put an effort into this one... and were a David Garrard fastball and an extra time out away from winning this sucker (and boy would that have messed up the AFC Playoff Scene)... and now because the Colts had a nice soft second half schedule everyone wants to forget how lame and miserable they looked coming out to a 3-4 start and want to give Peyton Manning every award in the leagues (but if you look at it right and you call your MVP ANYONE but Drew Brees you're INSANE)... anyway.... fun game to see the end of but way too many points then I was hoping for (since my opponent had Manning, M J-D and Colts D, I took it HARD in this one :P)

Game Quality: *** 1/2 (it was a good game... dammit!)

Saturday Dec 20:

Ravens at Cowboys:

What more can you ask from in a football game? Last game at Texas Stadium, both teams MUST win (and I never use that lame cliche unless it's true, unlike some Devils fans calling must win games in NOVEMBER  )... Both teams have monster defenses, but Baltimore still has that limp pop-gun offense that is just good QB play, smoke mirrors and ain't nothin else.... Dallas isn't exactly peaking on offense but look what Tashard Choice has done against the Steelers AND Giant defenses, I feel pretty safe in that fact that Choice will do well in this game.... same with Barber if he can play usefully, not to mention the Cowboys have as many all-pro's on offense as the Ravens do all-prison on defense .... get that big needle ready it's time to deflate the Ravens puffy hot air balloon!!!!!!

Prediction: Cowboys (I hate saying it but this is a team that got it going on and only Romo can beat them now)

Game Quality: **** 1/2

Sunday Dec 21:

Bengals at Browns:

This is the typical crap fest I like to watch NEXT week when the season is over and get all sad about my football Sundays coming to a close... damn you NFL!!!! This game is meaningless now!!

Prediction: There are no winners here... but um, Browns?

Game Quality: DUD

Saints at Lions:

Rutgers 10, Lions 7 (though I'd root hard for the Lions there :P)... the Lions have less then nothing at their best now.... while the Saints have no Reggie Bush and Drew Brees playing for an outside shot at 5,000 yards passing (he has 4,332... if he puts up a typical 400 against this awful Lions team he CAN do it), I don't know how much this motivates a Saint team... but I don't think they want to be this year's Ravens squad of infamy and dammit... I wanna see 0-16... CMON SAINTS!!

Prediction: Saints

Game Quality: *

Cardinals at Patriots:

Wow talk about a Christmas gift... let's make the Cards fly across the country, put them in miserable weather

take out 6 starters (including Bouldin), put them in crappy weather... and by the way the Pats need the game to annoy the Jets and Dolphins.... what happened to giving grumpy a$$holes like Belichicken some coal???

Not to mention the Cards have cashed it in and will be happy to tread water until their first round playoff pounding begins!

Prediction: Pats

Game Quality: * (the Cards are NOT showing up for this)

Steelers at Titans:

It's a shame the wheels are starting to come off on Tennessee or this would have been a MEGA football game!! But the Steelers are finding ways to squeeze out ugly-ass wins with defense, the QB and controversial non-touchdown catches (and CMON... as a fan you wanted to see 4th and an inch to see if Ben could dive the pile)... and not to mention this game is for AFC Home Field (amazing how the schedule has panned out for these kinda mega-games at the end, even though it give us hideous stinkers in-between!).... I really can't make a case for the Titans in any way shape or form now, so this one should be obvious but fun to watch!

Prediction: Steelers

Game Quality: *** 1/2 (too many injured and slumping Titans)

Miami at Kansas City:

Any chance the Chiefs had of winning here went up in SMOKE in the 4th Quarter of the San Diego game... maybe if they could have won two in a row and made a run to set up for next year....but that's not happening.... Miami is a pain in the neck team that wins with defense, running and mistake free QB play, and that's usually good enough to get you into the playoffs... anyone still laughing at my 7-9 Dolphin pick?? ( you should I think I sold them short :P)

Prediction: Dolphins

Game Quality: ** 1/2 (what Miami game DOESN'T come down to the last play??)

San Diego at Tampa:

FINALLY the Chargers get put out of their misery!!!! Tampa needs this too much if they want to stay in this playoff race and NFC South teams do NOT lose at home.....

Prediction: Tampa

Game Quality: ** 1/2 (the Chargers will make a sort of fight of it)

4pm:

Toronto at Denver:

So even if San Diego wins by a hundred at 1, the Bills are gonna lie down for the Broncos like a best of Jenna Jameson highlight reel anyway :P... so why bother San Diego?? Just do me one favor Buffalo... I need 200 yards and 4 TDs from Marshall... please... don't cover him would ya?? You have no pride... you have Keanu Reeves at QB, you EXTEND A COACH WHO SPOON FEEDS THE JETS A WIN... and you make Jim Kelly roll over in his not-even-bought-yet grave!! CMON BILLS LIE DOWN LIKE CHAMPS!!!!!

Prediction: Broncos

Game Quality: **

Jets at Seattle:

This won't be easy.... Seattle is playing well and took the Pats to the wall 2 weeks ago... they have some pride and guys like Seneca Wallace playing like they want to stay in the league now, the jets have this whole "can't win on the West Coast thing" with stunning epic losses to the Raiders and 49ers in there other trips to the lesser coast.... this won't be the coronation Jet fans demand like they have a birth right or winning tradition to base this on :P

Prediction: Jets (but you will lose hair in this one)

Game Quality: *** (love seeing fake fans suffer!)

Houston at Oakland:

Talk about a team with pride trying to make the next step... it's the Texans... all they need is a massive game from Andre Johnson (which can happen... Superman CB be damned!)... and really with the Raider offense, they will get PLENTY of chances.... Houston wants 9-7, and they could be a team to eye NEXT year, while people need to start poisoning Al Davis' food in Oakland

Prediction: Texans

Game Quality: **

Falcons at Vikings:

HUGE but totally under the radar football game here!! Atlanta needs to win to keep pace and Wild Card alive... the Vikings need to win to win the NFC North and keep an outside shot at the 2-seed! Atlanta does not impress on the road though and this Vikings team seems reborn under "Action Jackson"... gotta go with them and the pumped up defense making it MISERABLE for the over their head Falcons here.... but tune into this one if ya can!

Prediction: Vikings

Game Quality: ***

Eagles at Redskins:

I'd love to pick the Redskins here but their chips are cashed... down two tackles and seemingly totally out of gas after looking like a playoff lock a month ago (that loss to Dallas was season over for them)... and I don't see them giving ya anything... AND THEY LOST TO CINCINATTI, that's just WRONG I tell you!! The Eagles are destined to make my next Sunday MISERABLE... so might as well play the game for something.....

Prediction: Eagles

Game Quality: **

815pm:

Carolina at Giants:

Eveyone has their nuts all hot and bothered for Carolina... they can run the ball they have a good pass rush, they have Delhomme... but wait a second... they too ain't beat NO ONE on the road and I think Jacobs is playing in this one, which will make a difference... it's gonna be cold and nasty (and we know what a joy getting in and out of that place for night games is  )... this one will be close and you won't be getting home early from it... but really I might shed an actual tear sitting on my warm comfy couch watching the game as it was INTENDED to be viewed for ya's!

Prediction: Giants

Game Quality: ****

Monday Dec. 22:

Packers at Bears:

This game might be for nothing by the time it hits as the Packers are done and the Vikings should be NFC North Champs... but these two teams don't like each other one bit and it will make a fun watch anyway.. the Packers have been BEYOND awful since beating up on the Bears a few weeks ago and lost 4 in a row, and the Bears have won 3 of 4 and I guess at 10-6 they can try to nip at a playoff spot, but I don't see it happening this year (seems weird to say that, and people wonder why we hate the NFC and AFC West.. see the West Coast just SUCKS man!)....

Prediction: Bears

Game Quality: *** (always is)

and now because the Colts had a nice soft second half schedule everyone wants to forget how lame and miserable they looked coming out to a 3-4 start and want to give Peyton Manning every award in the leagues (but if you look at it right and you call your MVP ANYONE but Drew Brees you're INSANE)...

And when they were 3-4 you were saying this was going to be the year they'd miss the playoffs (hell you've been saying it for the last couple years), you didn't think the schedule was so soft then :P

They've done the inverse of what they usually do - get off to fast starts and shut it off late. If anything Peyton was just getting his legs back from under him in the first two months. In this league of complete parity winning 11 games every year (without chicanery) is pretty remarkable.

And how can you have Brees be the no-doubt MVP when his team isn't going to make the playoffs AND he's pretty close to the league lead in INT's just behind Favre? I could see making an argument for Adrian Peterson or Warner, assuming a defensive player seldom wins MVP.

I'm sorry Crash. Brees doesn't get my vote either. He lost that MVP against the the Bucs, when he threw not 1, but 2 interceptions in the final 3 minutes.

It's a toss up for MVP this year. If Miami wins out, you have to look at Chad. James Harrison has to be in the mix along with Peyton. People are talking about AP, but I'm not so sure about that.

I'd vote for him, or at least put him pretty high on the ballot personally  but he'll never win it because the Dolphins just don't score a lot of points on offense, hell he got dissed for the Pro Bowl already. Joey Porter'll probably get more MVP votes than Chad. Some other defensive players should get consideration too, Haynesworth, DeMarcus Ware.

Peterson can be a candidate every year with that team, Minnesota doesn't have an NFL QB (and maybe one NFL WR) but he still gets more than his share of yards, and they're probably going to win their division and could possibly get up to the #2 seed.

Pretty simple when you look at the results, when you looked at the schedule in October you'd think San Diego (who usually plays them hard) and Jacksonville would have been better... other then that, they played a WHO'S WHO of the trash teams in the NFL, what they've done is nice, but the last team they played that will even sniff the playoffs is the Steelers 6 weeks ago, the wins against New England and Pittsburgh are nice... but if the Colts now played the Steelers NOW... they get their face beat in... don't be fooled by this I'm betting heavy against the Colts in the playoffs... bad weather, on the road and still they let Detroit and JACKSONVILLE put up 21 and 24 points, don't be fooled by the Colts sir!

Drew Brees is having one of those special years and if he breaks the 5,000 yard barrier and with the injuries to Colston, Bush and others that team wins ONE game without him, I always hate that... why does the league's most valuable player have to lead his team to the playoffs?? Brees has done more with less, and look at this:

Most Yards Gained, Season

5,084 Dan Marino, Miami, 1984

4,830 Kurt Warner, St. Louis, 2001

4,806 Tom Brady, New England, 2007

Again Brees still has a SMALL chance of breaking this record.... if Brees downs Marino (he's already gonna be the 2nd most productive season passing EVER)... and to do it with his best weapons missing chunks of season... that's IMPRESSIVE!

The Colts haven't played good teams lately, but they did win at Pittsburgh (the Steelers if anything were better then cause Ben wasn't as beat up) and Minnesota and beat the Patriots, plus two tough wins against an improving Texan team. You just never give the Colts any credit no matter what they do, I can understand the anti-Giant bias but what's your beef with the Colts - just because they're a finesse team? They're a finesse team with a lot of mental toughness.

As far as Brees I'm aware of his yardage total, of course you're going to throw for a lot of yards when your team's usually behind, your running game pretty much sucks and you play in a dome. At least Marino, Warner and Brady all won 13 or more games while compiling those yardage totals. But when there are plenty of viable candidates on playoff teams you have to pretty much walk on water to win on a non-playoff team.

I don't like the way the Colts are built, more so on defense and they always come up soft... call it my Don Cherry moment but I hate soft pansy teams what can I say?? It's great they pulled this one out their ass and are gonna be in the playoffs, but the only team I think they could beat in the first round would be the Jets (I admit a Denver/Colt shootout in Mile High would be much fun!)

Marino, Warner and Brady had healthy teams

Brees is doing this with Pierre Thomas, Lance Moore and a bag of AIDS

I'd say what Brees is doing IS walking on water (hell maybe the Dome roof is leaking again!)

I still can't believe the Steelers could be #1 in the AFC with that schedule, (Well, didn't expect to see Chargers go down so easily , nor the Pats..)

This year's even better than that 04-05 season.. I haven't since a dynamic duo (Harrison-Woodley) since the days of LLoyd/Greene.. Or Gildon/Porter,

Oh man, the only thing the Steelers needs to do, is.. Just for the O-line to keep getting better, if we get Home field advantage(Which means.. If you play @ Pittsburgh, its all about DEFENSE.) Its gonna be great.

I'm so pumped for that Titans game, GO STEELERS !
