ghdi
Here's the only Jim O'Brien highlight maybe in existence. Nice drop pass. He looks kinda big too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns9a7NIJNb8 Edited July 2, 2015 by ghdi
fsu1852
Looks like we're going to be at or near the cap floor this year. I don't mind it since outside of Frolik we shouldn't have spent big bucks on any of these guys signed today. Sets us up nice to acquire salary via trades and free agency next July. Agree. No need to waste money on old guys that will hurt us down the road

SterioDesign
Who? We're going to be like 05-06 Chicago Blackhawks bad. Hopefully we'll be 2010 Blackhawks good sooner than later. We'll never be the 2010 blackhawks without us landing 2 generational talent somehow and that severson turn into a keith kind of player

What constitutes a generational player to you? Gretzky is a generation player (blec.) Point being, saying generational talent should be a short list and I feel like yours is not, and yes I'm being picky.
Neb00rs
I'd really feel a lot better if we re-signed Bernier. I know we aren't trying to win as many games a possible next year a la the typical Lou methodology, but I'd feel better with just a bit of scoring depth. CarpathianForest
All in all I think the signing and opening spots up for younger "unproven" talent is a good thing. The past few seasons where we signed a lot has-beens (sans Jagr) didn't really get us anywhere. I'd feel much better missing the playoffs with this roster than the previous season's rosters. It's hard for me to consider Steve Bernier scoring depth, he has a terrible scoring rate over the last 4 years. Regardless, I think they'll add someone else, just not sure who. Regardless, I think they'll add someone else, just not sure who. He is scoring depth on this Devils team. I just don't get why we would chance it. If Thompson, Boucher et al. fizzles, we could be looking at less goals than last year. Sure we are 'giving youth a shot' (whatever that means) but this is the NHL, and it's likely a bunch of these kids are not going to work out. However, I agree that we will probably add someone else, and my original comment was consciously impatient for sure.

Devilsfan118
If we become an embarrassment, it will be the wakeup many users need. I'm curious - what are you implying here? What do many users need to realize? Edit: Oh probably some crap about the new owners and/or GM. Because the teams Lou fielded the past three seasons weren't embarrassing, right? Because the teams Lou fielded the past three seasons weren't embarrassing, right? There are a certain segment of fans where no matter what the GM's do, it will never be right or good enough. Hell they could probably cure cancer tomorrow and some of these guys will still gripe about it. Good thing is that this segment is slowly getting smaller. William D'Aquila
So these last three years weren't an embarassment?........ Last year was bad, but the two years before were not embarrassments. Yes, the team missed the playoffs in those two years, but they also dominated territorially, and had really bad luck. I don't have much faith in Shero, he could prove me wrong, but I don't believe he will. He is one of the only GM's that had a less impressive drafting record than the Devils, and failed to win more than 1 cup despite having two generational talents. Those who bring up MAF have a valid point, but we shouldn't forget that the Blackhawks won with a tandem of Huet and Niemi. Moore is a foolish signing and not someone the Devils need, and Bobby Butler part 2 aka Jim O'Brien will be a dud.

Shero brought in O'Brien to possibly compete with Gionta for the 4th line center position. Much different expectations and I think Shero's is a little closer to reality. Just a smidge. But just keep spewing your nonsense.

Yeah but you gotta face the fact that we don't have very much to offer in the way of trades and NJ is probably one of the least desirable teams to go to right now. We have to bottom out before we can bounce back.
