Thing is... our players that are doing well / okay... im pretty sure they'd do well with any coaches....

on the other hand... some players struggling a bit might do better without him, im pretty confident there's a bad vibe around him by now, especially with the young guys

The young players aren't the problem with the team. Well, Gelinas is, but a coach isn't going to fix that, and he's getting plenty of ice time these days.

Thats not what i meant really. I didnt mean that this is the immediate problem. Id just really want a coach that can get the best out of the players, all of them. Less of a "do things my way or you're in the doghouse" kind of coach... which is what our whole management is like....

guys like Tedenby, Brunner etc etc may not be the best players but with coaches like that, there's almost no chance that they can find success.

Merril and Severson seems like guys that would do well no matter what too.

This isn't Little League. Coaches have a very short shelf life so their actions are usually done with self preservation in mind. It surely isn't PDB job to teach or develop talent, UNLESS LL wants him too. Today's league is a sink or swim business. Players show up to their NHL debut nowadays ready to not only ready to play in the show, but contribute at a significant level. Keep up or you'll end up in the minors or Siberia. I do agree motivating the players is important. However, it's not like yesteryear where guys like Burns, Keenan, etc ruled by fear. For better or worse, it just isn't compatible with today's young professional athlete. As far as the vets go, they have one skate off toward retirement already.

The problems with this team isn't the coach, but with the roster as almost all here have cited. What's the fix? Great question...taking in account of destination, free agent availability, style of play, and poor drafting... I just don't see any real way to improve in the near term, but I am just a fan and this why the professionals sit in those big offices. And as I mentioned in the past, if current ownership decides to clean house, what does that do? What if they brought in guy like Peter Laviolette to play a more upbeat offensive game to sell tickets? How do you do that with this roster? I don't feel these owners are gonna tolerate losing with a boring system. Until some serious decisions are made I really believe this team will be mediocre at best...maybe for years.

You know, having a sucky stay at home man - it makes the position that more unappealing as if it's the position to blame instead of the sh!t player. I just wish people got the game right in their heads.

If a person thinks it's smart and safe to have a low skilled player relegated to a stay-at-home defence man -- then that person just has no fvcking clue about that game. It seems to me DeBoer thinks of the position as just a step above "Enforcer" as if "Enforcer" is a real position.

It's just the absolute WRONG way to be talking about the game. It's the wrong way to be thinking about it. And if you say Oh well that's just lip service then to allow ANY PLAYER to think that way completely fvcks your whole team vision.

Can we just fix this? You know - why did Stevens not step up and fix this fvcking blatantly obvious misconception this organization is currently working under? Did he not see it? not hear it? Think about what Stevens would have amounted to without grasping the position of defence? THE FULL TRUE BREADTH. That's not just something a dude is born with - oh it's a rare gift. No it fvcking it isn't - it's something someone points out -- someone who has learned through experience - like Lemaire. I just feel like if this pretty simple concept is thrown under the bus for whatever reason - what else is being glossed over or couched to keep players ideas of the "New NHL" thriving.

There is no new -- no new NHL no new system -- hockey is hockey. Man &(*@$%^&(@$&*( :argh::rant: sonofabitchin/ &*(_$@^&*) why can these guys not even TALK about hockey right? Seriously -- makes me really not like or care about the team sometimes... <_<

After reading stuff regarding Stevens and watching the team this year, I wonder how much Stevens wanted to do that was possibly overridden by DeBoer. If DeBoer's idea of a defensive defenseman is as others posted then I tend to think Stevens left because of DeBoer.

Calgary wont be easy... Bob Hartley coach them. He is unreal. Find a way to make them win with an awfull lineup. I would have give a lot to have him as our coach.

Depends, he did say in an interview that trying to teach Kovalchuk to play defense was like getting water out of a rock. Yet we did it in NJ.

There is almost no chance that Tedenby would've been a succesful player. You don't bend the team to accomodate mediocre players, otherwise you end up with a mediocre team.

I agree with you, it is the roster but then it is about how Pete put the lines together with the players on this roster. That's two failures so far and then there is the system employed considering the talent on the roster. There is the third failure for this team. Regardless of who replaces Lou and Pete it will a mediocre team for a few years because there is too much to fix and implement in one season.

How funny if a Marty Brodeur signing now to backup Cory would significantly boost morale (at least for a short while) because our team is doing miserably bad...lol

There are articles recently about Marty still wanting to play and lots of speculation. Imagine this forum if he did end up signing as a backup here. Yikes!

From TG's Blog:

Devils coach Pete DeBoer talked Thursday about how Josefson has “played well” this season, but, like a lot of other Devils, needs “some production, too.” Josefson had a goal and an assist in his three games, but was held off the score sheet in nine consecutive games after that.

That's it, you fire this twat NOW. Ok...with a chance to end it you put 1-10 Henrique who has fumbled the puck in seemingly every shootout attempt of his life. Sloppy undisciplined hockey with poor situational awareness all night. Sloppy high stick late, Jagr with his centering pass to Calgary to start the game winning rush. This has been going on for years. This team under Deboer is chicken with their heads cut off hockey. Absolute chickensh!t scared hockey

THIS TEAM HAS DONE NOTHING BUT BLOW LEADS WITH DUMBfvckBOER AS COACH.

Now this a rant that I agree with.
