Sounds kinda like how they did it in the World Cup, and Euro 2004.

It works for them.

Euro 2008? They won't want to remember 2004.

In 2008 they didn't play anything like this. they were free scoring. They played with real pace.

In the world cup it was hybrid game. But it was more a result of teams shutting up shop and playing everyone behind the ball. The final was an example of that. Holland completely changed their tactics. And they still lost.

The fact that they are winning makes this difficult to argue, but they are not playing well.

Meant 08 obviously.

The only games they were "free scoring" in Euro 2008 was against Russia, who they scored 7 against over two games (gave up none). It also didn't hurt that they were in the easiest group in the entire tournament.

Im not saying they are playing "well", but its not across the board. They've had two games where they've played like crap, one of which they drew, and the other they won on penalties.

They may not be playing with a lot of pace or scoring a lot, but again, they've given up 1 goal in 6 games.

In the end Italy were simply better at taking advantage of their chances. After having to chase a 2 goal deficit, the Germans seemed to be “holding their sticks too tight”.

Germany should have had a penalty in the 5th min though when Pirlo used his hand to prevent a goal. Those goal line judges are really useless.

They were phenomenal in 2008.

They looked like they would score every time they attacked. And their group wasn't that easy if i recall.

I realise they are not conceding, but they have been really lucky.

I was so disappointed. After a fantastic first 5 minutes the just stopped playing.

And to think Platini wants this instead of goal line technology.

Platini also thinks it's a good idea to have 24 teams in the Euro. That means 8 more teams playing like Greece

Their movement was so much better today.

Shame they didnt play like that the rest of the tournament.

I dont look at things like that. They did what they had to, to get to the Final, and then put it altogether and dominated Italy. Sure, they could've been sharper in prior games, but still, only 1 goal allowed the entire tournament. Can't nitpick that. They didn't even need Puyol and probably will never need him again.

It may not have been "pretty" all the way through, but the result is all that matters.

I dont deny that at all, football is a results business, they got the results they needed with a bit of luck rather than actual decent perfomances. Having to watch them play so poorly all through the tournament for them then to turn it on in the final was frustrating.

I doubt Puyol would have even started, Ramos and Pique are miles better and have been for a long time.
