My predictions...

Forwards:

Zach Parise - 70 million/10 years (7 million cap hit)

Alex Ponikarovsky - 3 million/2 years (1.5 mil cap hit)

Ryan Carter - 4.5 Million/ 3 years (1.5 million cap hit)

Petr Sykora - Retires/leaves as UFA

Cam Jannsen - Leaves as UFA

Steve Bernier - 6 million/3 years (2 million cap hit)

Stephen Gionta - 8 million/4 years (2 million cap hit)

Defense:

Bryce Salvadore - Leaves as UFA

Peter Harrold - Leaves as UFA

Goalies:

Marty Brodeur - 8 million/2 years (4 million cap hit)

Johan Hedberg - Retires/Leaves as UFA

i think you are crazy on some of these.

i'm not suggesting that all these players are signed by the devils, but this is the best they're going to get

parise i agree at 10/70

ponikarovski 2/4.5 (2.25mm cap hit)

carter 1/800k 1way

bernier 2/2.5 (1.25mm cap hit)

gionta 1/750k 1way

marty 1/4 (he's over 35 - makes no sense for him to sign a 2 year deal and nobody would give it to him) this one is tricky. i think if they strike out a lot on free agents and haven't given money out on new deals, marty might even get $5.2mm so he's not taking a pay cut. it's, of course, a massive overpayment but if its not cap affecting on the high side, it could conceivably be on the low side. i'm not sure the devils want to be like the isles and throw money at mid-level guys just to reach a cap floor.

IF Bernier stays im sure he'd be willing to take a decent paycut after what he did, its gonna haunt him and he's gonna feel bad for the rest of his life. that being said i dont think it was his fault but still he's gonna feel easy with us i think lol

I agree with most of this. Bernier and Brodeur possibly getting too much. Good contract lengths though (giving Gionta a 4 year contract is insane)

I'd add Harrold - 1/750k 1way

7th Dman / 4th line winger PP Specialist.

Edit: I'd probably be ok if all the final terms end up being ~150% of these also if the cap rises.

paycut? he made the league minimum after basically playing in albany for free. he will get 2 year 1 way offers from several teams. i would not be surprised if he someone gave him 2 years at $2MM a year. he is a good player that has a home on a 3rd line and can caddy on a 2nd line. on a 4th line, he's excellent.

as I wrote, salvador is 36 and may be signed to just a 1-year deal.....we do have lots of D, but at this point its all speculation on who stays & goes.

I'd like to see him go & give younger players more ice time

sal's gonna get a 2 year deal from someone. i'd expect 2/6 for sal. he'll get offers from 6 teams.

bernier couldn't get a job in the NHL this year. not only did he take a paycut with new jersey, they didn't even sign him to an NHL contract until january. he had 13 points in 56 games as a devil. who is offering this guy 1M a season? what has he proven that the rest of his career didn't show? maybe if he were born in a western province, he gets that kind of offer.

to be fair, he sort of reinvented himself this year. I don't think he was looked at as a bottom six guy for sure. he was a failed 1st round top 6 guy. not all of those guys turn into valuable 3rd/4th line guys like that. and in a world with a $50mm floor, he's gonna get $1MM from someone.

He had the same role in Florida last year. Yeah, Florida was terrible and missed the playoffs by a lot. But this is one of those cases where NHL GMs don't recognize when fringe talents can be valuable - they especially don't realize it when the player is of Quebecois or European descent. I don't see him getting a lot of other offers or really, going elsewhere.

i don't disagree but when you're basically on stage for 2 months with very few others, you get noticed. the 4th line got enough publicity that they're all but guaranteed 1 ways in the NHL next year and for more than the league minimum. i think even peter harrold got that from this run.

I doubt he's going to take a paycut. Capgeek had him making only $525,000 this past season on a 2 way contract. If anything, I can see him getting, at most, a 1 way deal at $1 million for 1 or 2 seasons.

Parise: 10/65-70M - $6.5-7M/year

Poni: 2 years @ $1.5-2M per

Sykora: 1 year @ <$1.5M

Salvador: 1-2 years @ $2M per

Fayne: 3-4 years at $2-3M per

4th line: 1 year @ $750K-1M

Marty: 1 year @ $2-3M

Moose: 1 year @ $1.5M

Scrubs+Harrold: Let them walk as FA because we got a lot of young guys on D coming up and no need for goons like Cammer and Boulton.

Who I'd like to see signed/acquired this off-season: Another D-man, preferably one that can score a few goals, pass well, is at least 6'0" and most importantly has a very accurate/deflectable shot that Parise can hone in on better than he could on anyone's this season. I really think this is where Parise hurt the most this season without a guy like Martin or Oduya. Not saying I'd like them back, but a guy that has an quick, accurate wrist shot would be great.

Moose would make an excellent back up on a team with an established goalie, but I don't see the advantage of having two goalies at such an advanced age. If Marty comes back it would be nice for the Devils to get a young guy in there getting time so that we can have a goalie going forward.

Well, none of these guys should be coming back anyway because they went to a bar/club after the game / sarc

From what I gathered, Moose will either come back for one year or retire. I doubt he'll even consider offers from anywhere other than NJ as I don't believe he wants to relocate to play a final year. I think he's played well enough and been loyal enough to have earned himself another year with NJ to close out his career. It also helps to have another Swede who can mentor the younger Swedes and speak to them in their native language and make them feel generally more comfortable.

Moose can also be scratched to get one of our prospects in for a game or two here and there. I also believe if Marty comes back, he will play no more than 60 games, so that gives you enough games to distribute to a 3rd goalie.

good points.

Although I didn't know any info about his intentions I was coming more from what another team sees.

I think Hedberg is done here. It's time we bring one of our younger guys up (my guess is Frazee) and let him back up Marty. I'd also like to see Wedgewood get some games.

As for our UFA's --

Zach - I think he's leaning towards staying, but our financial situation may prevent his return. I'm going to guess stays.

Ryan Carter - I want this guy on the team. I hope he stays, but I could see him getting more money and a larger role somewhere else. Guessing stays.

Bernier - Id be perfectly fine with him returning, I just don't think it happens. Gone.

Poni - I think he walks. Fine with him staying.

Hedberg - Goodbye.

Cam - Goodbye.

Sykora - Really tough call. Im going to guess stays, but no surprise if hes done.

Gionta - Stays. I think he is the only one that assuredly stays.

Sal - Despite his performance, I think his age is a bit offputting. I also agree with the NBC analysts that say he will get good offers from around the league. Going to guess stays on a one year.

Harrold - Depends on Sal. I don't think we keep both of these guys.

good points.

I think a lot of people underestimate the value of having older guys around that can play almost a coaching role. Marty is EXCELLENT at this and I think it adds immensely to his value as a team player. Moose and Tally are the only older Swedes on the team, so it's a good thing to have around come the holidays. It gives the younger guys a place to eat on Christmas, Thanksgiving, wtv, and eat some homemade swedish foods. It's just something that I believe really helps a player feel at home with a team.

I mean, just imagine you're Larsson or JJ and you have only been in NA for a couple years or less, you speak English, but not fluently; that can be really isolating for a younger player.

Lastly, showing loyalty to a guy like Moose with a decent contract and allowing him to play one last year or wtv without relocating can really show to the younger players that NJ is a place that you may not get the individual accolades you'd get in MTL, NY, TOR, etc, but if you put in hard work and commit to the team, you WILL be rewarded for that loyalty.
