I'm embarrassed for a number of reasons, not really because they like to say "you suck". As another poster mentioned, and quite sharply, the new ownership and management team is the reason the team is not bankrupt, has spent millions of dollars upgrading the arena, and is committed to keeping the team in NJ and building its own identity. Yet these morons will make t-shirts that tell a member of that management team to get lost because of a chant that half of the fanbase didn't care for in the first place. They've tried several times to have a goal song that everyone can get behind, including taking the effort to make an original one. Yet their low IQ baboon brains can't resist the urge to say "you suck" when it doesn't work, especially when we're losing 3-0. And not to mention that they boo after the Devils score a goal because they don't get tell the other team that it sucks at that particular moment.

That's an utter embarrassment.

I just simply don't care enough either way and while I don't dislike the new owners I don't feel any loyalty to them either. This team wasn't going anywhere anyway.

Uh oh! You just called the pro-YS people names.

Watch as I learned that doing that is now allowed lol

Dont lump people into one group. Some people didnt like when they took away the goal song, but that doesnt mean they all endorse boo'ing after a devils goal, or this hilarious shirt.

This,  Don't care what side of the aisle you are on this debate.  That shirt is funny.

To get 3 pages of people getting bent out of shape about other people getting bent out of shape and not seeing the parallel is not quite as funny as the shirt but damn near close.

Well this is just embarrassing.  Should've taken this sh!t to the facebook page, I'm sure they'd eat this up. Thankfully this forum isn't won't support garbage like this.

I'm what you could consider a "Pro YS" guy, to an extent - I had no problem with the chant and was bummed to see it go.

But for Christ sake, it happened over a year ago.  Let it go people..

No one's begging you to check this forum bud

And, actually - read the thread.  It's pretty much unanimous against this shirt idea.

Agree with this post 100%, including hoping skeeter takes his "nothing but Cory hate" posts off this board.

Geez, this is getting nuts with the YS arguments.

YS is kinda lame and while I participated at first, it got old pretty quick. However, to say you're embarrassed to root for the team just because other fans are chanting/cheering in a way you find offensive and/or immature is just as lame as yelling "you suck" when we're down by 3.

If people want to yell "you suck", they're gonna do it whether you like it or not. Just accept that people are different and move on. Call them Neanderthals in your head and laugh when they chant it, just stop bringing it up in every thread.

Management needs to do the same thing, accept it and move on. Their plan to change the song and blast it to drown out the chant has only served to pour fuel on the fire as many people have taken it as a challenge to fit "you suck" into whatever they play as the goal song. I'd imagine that even if they played no song at all and just blared the horn, people would still yell "you suck" anyways. They'd do it just to spite them. Petty as that may be, that's the reality of the situation.

By the same token, all it would take to end the arguments and eardrum shattering volume of the goal song is not yell "you suck".

It's the epitome of a pissing contest. It's really fvcking annoying to see it in almost every thread and it's truly brought out the worst in many members of the forum, who's posts I otherwise find intelligent or entertaining when they're not about this issue.

Everybody just needs to let it go.

you're really not seeing the point. if the chant still existed, i dont think people would be as ravenous to stop it.  You need to read some facebook comments on the Devils page, these people are RELENTLESS over this chant.  They fight for this like its a cancelled pension or something. Its mind-boggling.

That's fbook though. It's like reading comments on Yahoo news articles and then declaring that everyone on the planet is either a racist, sexist, an a$$hole, idiot or all of the above. That's not he way most people are though. On the internet there are just certain places where there tends to be high concentrations of those kinds of people or people who get their kicks by acting that way while hidden behind a keyboard.

This forum isn't fbook though and no need to argue here over what you read there.

have you BEEN to a game?

I've attended hundreds of games, but what does that have to do with anything?

At the home opener there were only a a couple people in my section that insisted on yelling "you suck" during the goal song.

The first goal wasn't too bad - but it could definitely be heard after the second goal was scored.

They're starting to coordinate now though, it'll only become worse.

He's one of the nicest, most approachable, and transparent managerial/ownership figures we could've asked for. He walks around the building, talks to fans, has Q&As on Twitter, and has done a great job so far.

And he HASN'T JACKED THE PRICE OF TICKETS. They realigned some of the tiers (and clearly failed at the rivalry/Ranger game tier) but overall the prices have remained the same. Like I said in another thread, MY SEASON TICKETS ARE CHEAPER NOW THAN THEY WERE 2 YEARS AGO.

not sure how your season tickets have gotten cheaper from previous years didnt they just have to add in another tax on them of some sorts for newark.. but i do agree i like how they walk around during games and put themselves right in the middle of the fans..it looks good on their behalf and they are out there with the people all the time

You know what?  I want to see that.  Expose the desperation of the YS crowd once and for all.  Might even make it easier to identify them as individuals and take action if desired.

It's literally more than half the crowd, with the amount of empty seats we have had for the Rangers game and the game last night the last thing this team will do is start kicking people out for saying you suck. If they do that we will be drawing less then the Panthers

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the chant but removal seems kind of heavy handed

Saying "you suck' is a sign of lower intelligence.  The people that still persist in it, I'd venture a guess, have an average IQ of 93.  I was completely naive to think that they would get the message.

For all of you that might be lurking, you're like an army of even stupider John Sterlings.  You have ruined the experience.  Congratulations.

It's not even so much doing YS at this point, it's when they're doing it.  Doing it after the LGD chant is asinine.

It's more than just 'individuals'.  Maybe it's sourced in the uppers but it's a pretty fair amount of people that do it.

Saying YS is a sign of lower intelligence? Look, I've become more neutral to the matter over time but I will never be anti-YS due to superiority complexes like this. As MANY others have said hearing YS is one of the tamest things you'll hear at a hockey game. Look, at this point I just want a song that works. We have half the crowd chanting YS and other other half sitting down and twiddling their thumbs because the current song is such a steaming pile of pig sh!t and does NOTHING to rile up the crowd.

If you really want to start getting rid of YS then start ejecting people for chanting it. That might be the only way to get rid of it if you really  want to disconnect from the chant, but again, it's not like we are chanting HEY fvck YOU! here. It's such a mild and tame phrase. Children of today's age (and I've worked at a day care taking care of 5 year olds mind you) know worse.

I know a lot of anti-YSers. Most of them on this forum, I've met some of them at games, talked to them outside the forum. They are nice and friendly people. I'm not slighting them in the least. However, when it comes to this particular issue I've never met a group so self-righteous. I might actually be more sympathetic to their cause if it wasn't for the "holier then thou" attitude. You guys do realize, I hope that you come off no better then the overly moronic pro YSers that live on the Devils FB page and the like. Two different kids of extremism here. This side calling people "mongoloids, mutants, low intelligence human beings, cretins...etc" it comes over of as overly snooty and superior.

If chanting YS isn't your cup of bag at a hockey game, great. However, to look down at other human beings because THEY choose to do so is pretty reprehensible. The judgement that the overly PC anti YSers have for those who wish to chant YS is just fvcked up IMO. I share a similar view as those people that want to chant YS. They want to get rowdy at a hockey game, fans want to boo the opposition and cheer the home team and I'd be pissed too if I went to a game and I had to walk on eggshells when it came to what to say and what not to say.

And look, I get it. I totally do. I get that you guys want a family environment but I don't think targeting "you suck" was the right way to do it. Targeting the stupid "Rangers suck, Flyers swallow" chant would of been the right way. That has NO place in hockey and while we are taking away the goal song, the chant and the chanting of YS during player intro it's THAT chant that is still able to continue. The priorities are just in the wrong place.

No, I lived with it for a while and didn't really care so long as it was R&R 2, although I felt it was a bit juvenile, illogical and kind of beside the point, but perhaps I'm a bit of an aristocrat. Then, ownership, the same ownership that rescued the team from fvcking bankruptcy and financial ruin, made the call that they wanted to go to a new goal song. The YS people needed to say their little chant though, kind of like my brother's dog can't resist these sweet potato treats. When they didn't get their way, they started to boo after their own team scored a goal, and made something that should be a fun stupid thing that fans could get behind into an ordeal. Now, apparently the goal song has to blow out your eardrums in order to drown out the chant.

They are like little spoiled children that have to make a giant scene when they don't get what they want. And they are stupid people to boot, because the whole idea that other people don't care for it is utterly lost on them.

You didn't think that horrendous Bon Jovi song deserved to get booed? Don't forget, they surprised the majority of the crowd with that song because the majority of Devils fans aren't on forums or TGs blog

The one thing that management messed up was waiting until opening night, they should have just done it in the preseason. But that's just because they probably gave that part of the fanbase too much credit.

Whether a majority of the YS people knew it was going to happen, I don't know, but I would guess that most of the people that went so far as to boo knew it. In fact, I'd wager they were chomping at the bit to get a chance to boo.

It was a long time ago, but I remember when they got rid of R&R 2 the first time, and before YS was added to it. I don't recall any booing, and there was basically no social media at the time where more than a few people would be expecting it.

And you dont think you and other hardcore anti YSers arent acting childish with the way you are presenting your case? Where is the middle ground? Apparently you are a mutant neanderthal or a country club snoot that thinks a NHL game should has the same atmosphere as a Bergen county country club.

There has to be some sort of compromise because what is going on now isnt gonna cut it. For the record I would boo this goal song too because it's just fvcking awful. Really I'm more for bringing back R&R 2 over the whole YS chant but the whole hall monitor attitude of anti YSers is just so fvcking off putting that it makes me want to be the most hardcore pro YS guy out of spite.

It isn't about compromise or middle ground. That's besides the point. It was silly little thing, that's over. It wasn't a tradition, despite what YSers like to tell you. It wasn't my call, it was the team's call. If the YSers want to bitch about it on their own time, and call people like me snobs, lobby management, whatever. But they deliberately go out of their way to make going to the game a less enjoyable experience for everyone else.

In the same way, if the team became all the sudden serious about getting rid of Rangers Suck, Flyers Swallow, to the point of say, explicitly warning people not to say it, and ejecting them if they do, it would be incredibly stupid if they made big show of civil disobedience. If it means so much to you, just stop going to games, and tell management why you've stopped going. Don't sh!t on things for the rest of us.

The problem with YS honestly has nothing to do with the "language" or "crassness" of it. It was becaue all these jabronis would chant it when the devils scored a goal when they were losing 3-0 to make it 3-1.

There was no thought into it.

Denver he the stupid "IN-COM-PLETE" when a pass is not completed on 3rd down. But you won't hear it when the team is losing.

That was always the biggest problem. I wanted it gone for that reason. But I was screaming it at the top of my lungs when Henrique scored against the Rangers.

If people were smart enough to use it in the right context, you'd have more people behind it.
