'BOYS TO MAKE A DEAL WITH THE FINS?

ESPN's Chris Mortensen suggested during a special edition of Sunday NFL Countdown that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is eyeing the possibility of swinging a trade with the Dolphins for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Such a deal would allow the 'Boys to bag running back Darren McFadden, who played college football at Jones' alma mater of Arkansas.

Per Mort, any such deal would have to include the rights to Cowboys running back Marion Barber, who is slated to be a restricted free agent. To make it happen, the Cowboys would have to work out a sign-and-trade deal before Barber gets a chance to ink an offer sheet that would force the Cowboys to match the terms or let him go in exchange for compensation. Thus, the safest bet for the 'Boys would be to tender Barber at the highest possible level, which would force any team that signs him to give up a first-round pick and a third-round pick. Those extra picks then could be used to sweeten the pot for the top spot in the draft.

And it's clear that the Cowboys are going to have to find a way to enhance the two first-rounders that they can offer up for the No. 1 pick. Under the revised draft order, the Cowboys pick at No. 22 (from Cleveland) and at No. 28. Under the trade chart, the No. 22 overall pick is worth 780 points and the No. 28 selection is worth 660 points. The No. 1 selection has a value of 3,000 points; thus, the Cowboys would be a whopping 1,560 points short.

Though the trade chart arguably needs to be adjusted to reflect the fact that the enormous financial investment that is now required when using the top pick makes the prospects of a move up even more fraught with risk, the Fins could justify the 1,560-point gap by placing that value on Barber, who coupled with Ronnie Brown could give Miami a deadly one-two punch in the backfield.

Some readers think that the framework for a deal is already in place, and was part of the unspoken understanding that allowed the Dolphins to have their way with the Dallas front office and coaching staff. If that's true it wouldn't surprise us. Jones surely covets McFadden, and our guess is that he is willing to do whatever is necessary to get him.

I saw a lot of questions on the other thread, and wanted to try and clear things up here with an article.

First of all, I believe this is a rumor because it really doesn't make sense to me. This could be also someway of Jerry Jones getting back at the despicable, two-face Bill Parcells.

Secondly for those that believe the Dolphins will take Darren McFadden 1st overall simply because they need to take the best person in the draft, you are wrong. The Big Tuna loves defense and big lineman and will either take from there or he will trade down.

However, the idea of bringing in a player like Marion Barber would be exactly what Miami needs and has needed for a long time, since Dan Marino retired. A player like Barber will put fans in the seats, embarrassingly. The Barbarian and Down Town Ronnie Brown makes a nasty one-two punch that I can't even get in my Madden franchise! Talk about a scary backfield, not to mention Ricky Williams (The Smoking Gun) and a scat-back that "breaks people's ankles" Lorenzo Booker--similar to a Leon Washington, but has the best first cut I've EVER seen!

From reading the article and the "points system" Mort believes that the Cowboys will have to package in the 2 1st rounders with The III. WOW. I can't see Big D doing this, if so you Dallas fans should become Giants fans or file a petition for Jerry Jones to resign. I said a petition, not a threat.

If the Dolphins get this deal done, I would like...

22nd pick: CB: Dominique-Rogers Cromartie (Antonio's cousin--talk about a freakishly athletic family!!)

28th pick: OLB/ILB: Dan Connor (A bigger, stronger, faster Paul Posluszny)

32nd pick: DT/NT: Frank Okam

54th pick: WR: Aldarius Bowman (T.O.-like?)

Also, I have a question. Why wouldn't the Boys at least try to offer Barber a contract when he officially becomes a restricted free agent? So even if a team outbid, like the Dolphins, they would have to give up at least a 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder?

Again, I truly think this is a rumor and Jones wants to be a pompous jackass like he usually is and get his name in the headlines since NFL news is painfully slow. It's like a slow death. No offense to Jones, I think he is one of the best, if not the best, owner in the NFL. What? 3 Super Bowls and counting..? He's definitely a high risk, high reward type of guy, but this is certainly a roll of the dice, saying he WANTS Darren McFadden. As of now, he doesn't need D-MAC, but the fact that he WANTS him could really come back to bite him in the ass.

i have to agree with MartysB3tt3r.

You can not post full articles, and when you do post an article, do a small piece then put the link.

I dont know anything about football so ill remain quite on that. However, it wouldnt make sense to trade a number 1 pick in andy draft unless youre getting alot back in return.

Is there a point to making another thread? You made whatever point you though you had in the last thread, claiming I didn't post the article. And, like I said in the other thread, I did, only a shortened version of it, because I don't think on this board you are allowed to post full articles anymore because of copyright issues, (see: that whole star ledger sh!t). If you saw a whole bunch of questions on the other thread... answer them on there?

Plus, I loved you calling Jerry jones a "pompous jackass" while sitting there under the fat-wing of Parcell$. I'd rather have a "pompous jackass" than a complete traitor. What Jerry Jones is doing isn't hurting anyone, he likes attention, so what? Tuna is a full out traitor, and trust me, more than just the Cowboys fan base thinks so. (cue in: the Giants fanbase!)

Guys, I had no idea.

I'd really like to apologize to all of you, especially Martysb3tt3r.

Please ignore this thread completely, and check out Marty's.

Oh and btw Marty, one of the first things I said was that Parcells is a "despicable, two-face guy." Despite calling Jones a "jackass," I immediately followed with, but "he's one of the best, if not the best owner in the NFL." Idk, ever since going to a Cowboys-Giants game at the Meadowlands and seeing Jones walk out onto the sidelines during a G-men ass-whooping and waving and blowing kisses or w/e he was doing to the crowd.

But again, I'm very sorry and will know about the article situation for the future. Thanks!
