Triumph
1st, Nilsson, and O'Marra? Abysmal. Garth Snow is terrible - Kevin Lowe would be a fool not to accept this deal.
Vinnie
Ryan O'Marra, Robert Nilsson and a 1st round pick. Edit: And on Messier Night in Edmonton...seems like an odd day to plan something like that. Edited February 27, 2007 by Vinnie

CMONPETEYD
Not only that but OMarra is supposed to be good. 2 1st round picks (OMarra and Nilsson) and a 1st in the future... Good for EDM

PeteyNice
Wow Snow is awful. What a terrible GM. They need to resign Smith. According to HF Nilsson and O'Marra were the Islanders first and fourth rated prospects. Plus a #1 in a draft noone wants to select in. '7'
1st, Nilsson, and O'Marra?Abysmal. Garth Snow is terrible - Kevin Lowe would be a fool not to accept this deal. you really think Garth Snow is making the trades? you said so you yourself. A 1st = 2nd this year. Robert Nilsson is 22 and while he's scored at Bridgeport, he hasn't done anything at the NHL level yet. Omarra is not that highly touted. Smyth is still in his prime. I wouldn't have done it, but this trade is not as lopsided as you think. Smyth is on pace for 40 goals in 69 games this year. The isles are getting a proven goal scorer here. eldon
And Cherry was just saying this wkend. how Smyth was the heard & soul of the Oilers. A guy like him deserved the $ vs. someone like S.Doan (if I remember correctly).

You only get 20 games of Ryan Smyth. While a 1st isn't *that* valuable, the Islanders are in the middle of the 1st round where it is slightly more so. Robert Nilsson has struggled to make the NHL - fine. But you just can't deal all three of these assets for 20-30 games of Ryan Smyth, who while he is a top 10 LW in the league, has to get acquainted with his teammates right away. Unless the Islanders re-sign Smyth - it's senseless. Oh, and the Islanders still need a defense.

The D looks patchwork, but they haven't played that way. Obviously after a trade like this, you assume they're going to re sign him. Meanwhile when the Devils get Jason Wiemer and Alex Brooks back, the league's in trouble.
