For now, absolutely. By midseason we will see who is starting for Albany. I don't trust either Wedgewood or Danis.

Danis is a 10 year pro and Wedgewood is 3 years older than Appleby.  I'd be very surprised if he unseated either guy.  Again, my comments about OHL scorers from the prospect threads - if shot counts are wildly different in the OHL, save percentages can't be fully trusted.

I'm happy to see Appleby get signed to an ELC (source TG). Hopefully he gets plenty of playing time if he's assigned to Adirondack.

The Albany Devils announced Wednesday that they have signed goaltender Doug Carr to a professional tryout contract. Albany also reassigned defenseman Joe Faust to ECHL Adirondack and released defenseman David Shields from his PTO.

Wedgewood has a sprained ankle and will miss the opener. Danis is expected to play but has been battling back spasms. Seems like they brought Carr in just incase both guys go down and they need someone to pair up with Appleby. As you can see from Carr's EliteProspects page, he had a pretty inconsistent career at UMass-Lowell from 2010-14 and hasn't done that well in limited AHL and ECHL action.

 

No surprise to see Faust sent to the ECHL and Shields released.

Albany lost their season opener to Binghamton 4-1. Blandisi had a power play goal with Gragnani picking up the assist. O'Brien had 6 shots followed by Novak with 5 and Thompson with 4. Danis made 28 saves on 32 shots as the Devils outshot the Senators 33-32. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights:

-- Black (lower body), Lorito (upper body), Mozik (knee), and Wedgewood (ankle) did not dress.
-- Thomson and Kelly were the healthy scratches. Kelly counts against the veteran rule along with Pelley, O'Brien, Thompson, Gragnani, Sislo, and PL3. Teams can play no more than 6 "veterans" with 260+ games at the AHL level or above.
-- Corey Tropp made his Devils debut as he is on loan from the Chicago Blackhawks.
-- Doug Carr who is on a PTO backed up Danis.

Albany lost to Toronto 3-2 in overtime. Tropp had the first Devils goal with Kelly and Burlon picking up the assists. Sislo had the second goal on the power play with Lorito adding the assist. Sislo had 5 shots followed by Helgeson with 4 and O'Brien with 3. Danis made 34 saves on 37 shots. The Devils were outshot 37-21 for the game and 18-3 over the 3rd period and OT. The Devils went 1/5 on the PP and 3/3 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

-- Black, Lorito, and Mozik have returned to practice after recovering from their respective injuries.
-- Wedgewood is still out with an ankle injury.

Albany lost to Portland 4-2. Thompson had the first Devils goal with O'Brien and Mozik picking up the assists. Pietila had the other Albany goal for his second of the season. Sislo had 5 shots followed by O'Brien and Burlon with 3 each. Carr made his first Devils start and stopped 23 of 26 shots as the Devils outshot the Pirates 28-27. Albany went 0/5 on the PP and 4/5 on the PK, though that goal came with an empty net. Here is the gamesheet. I'll edit in highlights later if they are made available.

He passed through waivers after camp.  I don't think there is re-entry waivers anymore. But after his cups coffee, he's sent back down, he again has to pass through waivers. 

I wonder how Blandisi is adjusting to pro's?

Gragnani had 2 assists while Burlon, O'Brien, Pietila, and Sislo had one each. O'Brien had 7 shots followed by Boucher with 5 and Tropp and Hrabarenka with 4 each. Danis made 23 saves on 24 shots as the Devils outshot the Senators 38-24. Albany went 4/10 on the PP and 5/6 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Albany lost to Bridgeport 3-2. Mozik had the first Devils goal with Lorito and Helgeson picking up the assists. Sislo scored on the PP with Gragnani and Blandisi earning the assists. Sislo and Mozik led the Devils with 3 shots each as they were outshot 20-17. Carr made 17 saves on 20 shots. Albany went 1/4 on the PP and 4/4 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Coleman and Kujawinski each scored their first professional goals. Pelley, Gragnani, and Mozik each had an assist. Thomson led the Devils with 4 shots followed by Sislo with 3 as the Devils outshot the Comets 24-21. Danis made 20 saves on 21 shots. Albany went 1/5 on the PP and 3/4 on the PK. Took the trip to Albany today. Really like the Lorito-Blandisi-Sislo line, Kujawinski impressed me with his speed and constant motor. Didn't get a ton of shifts but made the most of them.
