Colorado Rockies 1976
Yeah, just a hell of a DP all-around...no way Flores and Murphy turn one like that. I get the feeling Tejada is going to start getting more playing time...nothing to be thrilled about with his severe limitations as a player, but Flores simply isn't an everyday major-league SS. Mets are 6-8 in their last 14...not really so bad, in that they're doing a decent job hovering. The offense is definitely worrisome. Cuddyer is finding out that it's a little harder to hit outside of Colorado. And Duda is really in a serious funk. Grandy continues to be the low-average hitter he's been for years, and the walks are coming down while the strikeouts are going up. Mets may have to trade for a bat in the next month or two if the offense doesn't wake up soon, and depending on who Sandy sets his eyes on, it could be costly. '7'
Duda is the guy who needs to morph back into a 30hr 100rbi guy we saw last year, with Wright charmin soft and who knows when d'Arnaud can return...he needs to be the lynchpin of the offense and have that 9hr month to pick up the team. Not the 10hr 50rbi part time player he was before then. The only place I see Sandy adding is SS though...and if not Tulo then who? I think the Wright situation means Murph is pretty safe for now. We could also be sniffing around the LH reliever market again as well if Blevins cant return in time and if Leatherman cant get the job done. Torres 2.0 really isnt a lefty specialist. '7'
Thor finally makes his long long long awaited debut tonight (Mets will never be accused of rushing this guy, that's for sure) d'Arnaud cleared for all baseball activity...except hitting. Heh, watch d'Arnaud return before Wright. Well probably wont happen but would it shock anybody? Carlyle now added to the walking wounded. Not in the dl yet though. He will probably end up there though. Lagares out of the lineup tonight with a strain under his armpit. Hopefully not serious...mri showed no structural damage. '7'
What more could you have wanted from Thors first MLB start? meh, maybe a few less walks...a shred of run support would be nice too.

Wearing out a little in the sixth now but Murphy did make him throw like twenty extra pitches in one inning Too bad the offense is either awful or on the DL. '7'
Harvey delivers an ace like performance...but once again this god damn anemic (and bruised and battered offense) can't offer him much in term of support.

NJDevs4978
lol...at this point I think the Cub pitchers are coming out to prove a point after all the talk about how they should trade with the Mets for a pitcher. Do they REALLY need a starter at this point? Lester-Arietta-Hammel's pretty darn good and Travis Wood's been pitching well so far this year. '7'
We desperately need this game today...stop the bleeding type of effort. Hope the bats can wake up.
'7'
Lagares back tomorrow. Good Wright however who was scheduled to resume baseball activity on Monday, will now need several more days of treatment. So what is this setback #4 or 5 for him? Absolutely ridiculous. I love the guy but he can't stay on the field at all anymore. I would seriously consider trading him in the offseason...if we can get out from most of that contract it will be an enormous plus. Heck we could re sign murph and move him to 3rd, have Herrera man 2nd, and bring in a shortstop in the Wright deal.
'7'
And this is why you can't trust Niese. 5-1, big game trying to salvage the something...and he gags it all up as usual
NJDevs4978
What a disaster of a week...even losing three of four against a good team would be understandable but getting swept, especially losing the last two games that should have been wins - you can't really believe in this team even when you want to. NJDevs4978
lol so much for the vets responding...more shoddy fielding leading to an odd-timed Colon blowup against the Brewers of all teams.
NJDevs4978
Well this went to s*it in almost record time. Fifth straight loss, and now Herrera's on the DL with a broken finger. Freaking wonderful. With real baseball teams coming up next week (Cards/Pirates) the Mets may actually be under .500 by the end of the month. '7'
And now Herrera to the DL with a broken finger tip suffered during fielding drills. The 2009-present freakish injury cloud just shows no signs of abating. Just waiting for Wright to land on the 60 day DL (setback, mosquito bite) Colon had a sh!t outing but he's known to have these blowups. I'm not too mad at him...he's been too good and I think he'll continue to be. But this offense...yuck. The NL East lead is slipping away. And I feel once we let Washington pass us we'll never catch them Edited May 16, 2015 by '7'
Colorado Rockies 1976
Glad I spent the past week at Grand Cayman (fly back tomorrow). Rough rough week. Someone needs to tell Jake that road starts count too. The "Is he a CitiField wonder?" narrative is going to start to gain steam soon if he doesn't start pitching better on the road. Gotta wonder when the TC watch begins. Sandy really deserves the blame if this falls apart, as he did next to nothing this offseason, but TC will be the guy who takes the hit. Can't wait to see Captain Loser come back and hit .260 or so the rest of the season. Passive needs to get a bat here...a real one.
NJDevs4978
Really nobody's doing the job offensively. When Wilmer Flores is leading your team in HR's (by two) you have problems, with nobody else having more than three. So much for the ballpark changes helping the power. Cudduyer and Granderson basically have identical numbers other than Grandy working out a few more walks. Duda and Lagares are the only regulars hitting > .250. Colorado Rockies 1976
The potential for offensive suckage was there though. Cuddyer is 36 and fattened up on Colorado the past couple of seasons. Wright is Wright...no longer what he was and now injury-prone to boot (but the Mets for some reason continue to feel completely comfortable with relying on him, which is a joke with no punchline). We were all hoping Duda could repeat, but there were no guarantees. d'Arnaud is also injury-prone. Grandy has been Grandy, who needs a bandbox to be dangerous. Flores is an ongoing experiment. Sandy can take mental victory laps for cashing in a couple of Omar's chips via trades and callups if he wants to, but it's time for him to actually truly DO something. This offense needs a jolt desperately, and Passive needs to do more than just waiting around for the Loser to come off the DL and not make a difference. Wright will never be that Wright again. I don't want to parse the numbers too much at this point but add to that three of his good road starts were in Florida and Seattle (other extreme pitchers' parks) and the split's even more pronounced. Colorado Rockies 1976
Agree that it's still early in Jacob's career, but the split is definitely pronounced enough that writers are going to start mentioning it soon (if they don't, then they're not really doing their homework). Especially when Harvey is pitching well both on the road and at home. Edited May 16, 2015 by Colorado Rockies 1976
'7'
For all of Flores misadventures at SS...the guy is going to be a major league hitter. Was robbed on an absolute missile to 3rd earlier, and now hits a huge grand slam to left center. Hr #6 on the year for him.

'7'
There's fattening up, and there's FATTENING UP. Good lord, 10 runs in an inning! But whatever, they were due. How about deGrom 3-3!

Was robbed on an absolute missile to 3rd earlier, and now hits a huge grand slam to left center. Hr #6 on the year for him.He may have potential as a hitter (not sure how much), but he's not a major-league SS, and the Mets knew it when he was a minor leaguer. It'd be nice to see him be able to hit over .250 and have an OB% over .300 as well...especially since he's an awful glove playing an important position, who costs his team outs and runs routinely. His home runs aren't offsetting his defense anywhere near enough.Wins are always great, but we just know it will be 3 runs scored or less for a while for this offense after a game like this. Wright would've had a 2 HR, 7 RBI kind of day if he was in the lineup last night...and promptly would've disappeared over the next six or seven games or so (especially when needed to come through). OK Jake, nice game, do it outside of Citi. Edited May 17, 2015 by Colorado Rockies 1976
