Devils/Prudential Center Making 'Huge' Announcement Tomorrow a

What? What bearing does that have in that argument? I dont have a problem with ys, or gambling or alcohol ads, but how can ownership have a problem with a slightly offensive term, but not with gambling and alcohol promotion?

Gambling addiction is why my family struggled to pay bills when i was growing up. Gambling addiction lost my family a successful business. Gambling addiction is why i need to seriously consider leaving school every semester. But "you suck" has to end.

Your family's gambling issues are not the Prudential Center or NJ Devils issues.  It's their building so they can put whatever rules in they want.  If you do not like it then don't buy a ticket.

Gambling and alcohol promotion in some shape or fashion with the Devils has been around a lot, lot longer then the YS chant. If gambling and alcohol promotion was a hot button topic for these people they'd have objected to it a long time ago. It's only now that this is an issue because they had their precious goal song and chant removed. In other words, it's pointing fingers for the sake of pointing fingers and the Devils owners gave them a target.

That's why it's funny.

It really is this simple.

Apparently arguing over integrity is a one-way street for a lot of Devils fans.

I suppose you skipped over the part where i said i dont have a problem with it. You really need to pick up some better reading comprehension. I was trying to illustrate the hypocrisy of this crusade against an innocent term to create a "family friendly" atmosphere, while simultaneously allowing industries that literally destroy lives to advertise all over the building. I dont have a problem with it. Im not handed a bud light and a funnel and sat down at a black jack table. I understand drinking and gambling are usually done in moderation. Hell, i love to do both, again, in moderation, but dont go after fans for saying the wrong thing for the sake of the kids and then promote things like that.

Youre totally missing the point. Its not that anyone has serious objection. What people are asking is why is you suck not ok, but gambling and alcohol ads are fine.

And you totally skipped TheRedStorm's part about how gambling establishments have been promoting the Devils for years.  Hell the Devils 87-88 Patrick Division mini-banner SGA was sponsored by Trump Casino down in AC and it is stamped right on there!  Fans had no problems with it for 25 years and now it's suddenly an issue because they took their precious YS chant away that has only been around since about 2007 when the YS part was started by a few fans.

Again with a lot of Devils fans hypocricy is a one-way street in their eyes.

And i am trying to explain that these people who all of a sudden have a problem with this didn't have a problem with it BEFORE you suck and the goal song was taken away.

For the record, for someone who doesn't have a problem with it, you've gone out of your way to give your family history in terms of gambling and point fingers at the owners and call it a "crusade". That doesn't sound like someone without a problem or issue.

I cant argue with some of you. Honestly, i think this is boiling down to an issue of intelligence. First of all, just because it was done twenty five years ago, that doesnt make it acceptable. Thats not a valid justification. Secondly, for the final time, i am not in any way opppsed to gambling or alcohol ads, so stop trying to argue with me on a point we agree on. Im asking, again for the final time, and im sure no one is going to even address this, but why is questionably offensive language, non-sanctioned by the franchise, totally off limits, but its ok to advertise for gambling institutions and alcohol. I look forward to all of you again ignoring the actual thesis of my argument to tell me why im just whining about a song i dont particularly care about.

My point was gambling can have awful consequences, even much worse than what i experience. The term "you suck" does not damage lives. So, again. Gambling promotion. Fine. You suck. Not fine. Why?

Because you didn't read my first post in response to you.  It is their team and it is their arena and so it is their rules.  Don't like it?  Don't buy a ticket.  Stop soapboxing about this already and giving everyone your family's life story.

Because they are not one in the same thing, no matter how much you try to link them. That's why. Look, i see what you, Mr. Fantasy Football a few pages back and others are trying to do here and it's reaching. It's trying to play connect the dots with a broad brush. If you try hard enough you can do this is in a lot of walks of life, but it doesn't make it a valid argument.

As i said now for the 3rd time, it's all a finger pointing act at this point.

It's important to make a few distinctions. Saying "You suck!" is not against any laws. They changed the song out of preference, the fans continue to scream "You suck!" and that's the end of the story. They didn't "end" the "You suck!", I personally do it.

Similarly, gambling and alcohol are legal, not breaking any rules, so they should have no qualms on allowing them to advertise if they'd like.

The goal song was changed because the ownership saw the practice of the crowd yelling "you suck" as morally questionable, and explicitly did it to create a more "family friendly atmosphere". Don't issues of drinking and gambling also lie on morally unstable ground? There's no trying to connect the dots; these things are inherently linked when morality is the underlying issue, which it was for the goal song. Nice use of evasive rhetoric, though.

I am not here fighting for the goal song, so stop attacking me like I came in here guns blazing. Sure, I liked the goal song, and was somewhat upset initially, but they didn't un-retire Dano's number, they didn't take down any banners, and those are the traditions we truly cherish. I personally don't like goal songs generally, nor the other bells and whistles that go along with a home team scoring. I'd like a goal horn and maybe some organ. But, that's not the point. I do not care one way or the other if they advertise for alcohol, or gambling, or for the adult film industry, or anything. It does not bother me one bit. However, if the ownership group decides to take this moral stand against inappropriate language, how can they continue to promote other morally questionable things like gambling and alcohol. This isn't an issue of legality, I understand that. For me, this is a question of integrity. To me, it is more than hypocritical to attempt to remove unsanctioned use of language in the crowd, while continuing to promote things like alcohol and gambling. Why is it OK for "families" to be exposed to these things, but not to the word "suck"?

One is legal, the other is not. It's legal to drink beer. It's legal to gamble on line and in casinos. It's not legal to scream out things that offend others in a public place. As a matter of fact, the latter is spelled right out on the backs of the tickets and on Prudential Center's code of conduct. Let me know when drinking beer and playing blackjack at a casino make it there, too.

I mean there's nothing to argue here unless someone is trying to find something to, yet again, hang these guys by a rope. They're businessmen running a business just like John McMullen did when he had TropWorld and Trump as sponsors. Was it wrong to have them as sponsors?

the word suck is used on TV every single day, if it offends you well too bad, it offends me when people say Lets Go Rangers, but I'm not gonna cry about it.

Because it's the exact same thing, right? LOL

I said this months ago. Walk into a public place and do the same obnoxious things you'd do at a hockey game and see where it takes you. The right to buy admission to a public place and attend a sporting event does not give you the right to say and do things that others around you feel are offensive. It goes for any other public place as well. There's no exceptions. It doesn't matter what you think, it's what the law/code of conduct thinks.

Some of you have yet to wrap your minds around this. Time after time.

There is nothing wrong with YS.

It just shouldn't be chanted after we score a goal.
