Maybe an Easton or two as wel, but almost completely Bauer. Ididn't really want to limit myself to the one line I actually have access to, though I can definitely see the upside to getting my skates where I'll be getting them sharpened and maintained (and where I'll be using them the most as well). Maybe I need another place in Jersey with a better selection? Anyone in Jersey know a good place with a wide selection of skates? threestars Posted September 2, 2010 Share Posted September 2, 2010 S'ok, am getting them done. Unfortunately hockeymonkey doesn't ship to Oz. Getting the local skate shop to do them....apparently the blades are currently out of stock in Oz so whoever the shop's supplier is is taking the blades off skates.....I don't care where they get them as long as I have them by Friday night. I've used two piece sticks for few years, but now I decided to change to one piece Warriors, because I can really see the difference in my shots, especially wrist shots are alot better. I've had both snapped in half, but there's never really been any problems with tps blades, I've only managed to break the shaft so I guess it's pretty much the same. Well, I don't think it's that big of a deal anymore nowadays, but I remember some years ago I had an Easton shaft and a Koho blade and they just didn't work together. The blade didn't fit with the shaft, because it was a little too small. Since then I've used alot of CCM blades/shafts and they've been working perfectly. Loved the Reebok skates ever since i tried them on, CCM's dont give me the ankle support and the Bauers toe cap always pinch my little toe, but thats because i have stupid feet. I'm just wondering how long it'd last for ice hockey I used that setup for a while, i had a Easton Typhoon shaft with an easton wood blade. I found that it softend recieving pucks onto the blade and had a really good puck feel, but i didnt seem to be able to shoot that well with it, but that could have been to do with the flex being way to low (70 flex and i'm 6ft 2 and 194lb). The best thing to do would be to see if anyone with that setup will let you take a few shots and play a few shifts with their stick to get a feel. I was luck enough to have some guys on my team who let me try their gear to work out what blade pattern i wanted before i invested in my sticks. I used to have that kinda setup as well and it shouldn't be a problem, but there's always the chance that the wooden blade with a composite shaft makes the balance of the stick "unsteady" (I'm not sure if that's the right word) if the blade is notable heavy compared to the shaft. My only issue is i keep cutting the circulation off to my right foot. But thats a personal issue in the fact the skates fit my left foot better than the right. I tried the x:30 and the boot just wasn't stiff enough for me. would have loved to have tried a pair of one60's, may still give them a go now. Chimaira_Devil_#9 Posted January 1, 2011 Share Posted January 1, 2011 Pencil test? Please share! Its to check the depth of the skate is ok. Put on the skate as normal, dont lace it up, keep the tounge of the skate down, place a pencil horizontally across the top of the skate (above the eyelets) and move it from the toe of the skate all the way to the top eyelet. I think the key area is around the ankle (where the lace lock is on Reebok skates). Make sure your foot is not touching the pencil at this point and there is a bit of clearance. I thought the staff at Monkey Sports was really nice and really helpful, but I didn't love the sharpening job from them (bake and sharpen came with).
