thefiestygoat
Somehow I ended up with an internet connection so I'll post a recap, though Anhkheg covered much of it in the prospect thread. Albany defeated Norfolk 1-0 as Kinkaid earned his first professional shutout stopping all 34 shots he faced. Taormina scored the lone goal, off of a loose puck from the left point, with Gionta and Zharkov getting the assists. Kinkaid was the 1st star, Taormina the 2nd, and Zharkov the 3rd with a team high 4 shots. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights. Their next game is Saturday against Connecticut at 7. Kalamazoo defeated Wheeling 6-5: Young and Clermont did not play. Sova (E, 5 shots) and Haczyk (-1, 1 Shot). Sidenotes: Albany now has a 3 game winning streak, has won 5 of their past 6, and his 8th in their conference. After a bad start its nice to see things coming together, hopefully this continues. I really wish Burlon stayed for his senior year at Michigan. Due to the defensive depth (which I can't complain about, it's a good problem to have) he has only played in 2 games this year. I expect injuries to occur in NJ and Albany that would open up a spot for him at some point but he could really be getting valuable ice time at Michigan with Merrill being suspended. Plus he missed Michigan's run to the final last year due to illness and would've had another shot at that. thefiestygoat
Albany lost to Connecticut 3-2 in a shoot out. Scoring for Albany was Sislo (Whitney and Urbom) and Whitney (PP, Harrold). Frazee stopped 26 of 28 shots and 3 of 5 shots in the shoot out. Whitney was the 3rd star with his goal, assist, +1, 2 shot effort. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights. So far Whitney and Sislo seem to be solid pick ups for the Devils. Whitney (RW): 13 GP 5 G 4 A 10 Pts -4 6 PIM 32 Shots Sislo (RW): 13 GP 4 G 3 A 7 Pts +1 2 PIM 30 Shots Their next game is Friday against Norfolk at 7. Jas0nMacIsaac
Kinky is gonna be a stud From what I have seen he plays too deep in his net, something many big goaltenders have a habit of doing. He should challenge more. Edited November 6, 2011 by Jas0nMacIsaac

This is a huge blow to Clermonts development.
RowdyFan42
And i guess this is the biggest blow to the organisation in losing the T-Devs. We have no control over the minutes played by out prospects outside Albany. This is a huge blow to Clermonts development. Most NHL organizations do not have direct control over their prospects' playing time while in the ECHL (or anywhere other than the AHL). I do have to wonder, though; why isn't Clermont in juniors anymore? Is he too old? Did the Devils believe he'd get more playing time in Albany (or Kalamazoo) than he has to date? thefiestygoat
He's spent most of the echl season in Albany with Brodeur being hurt. It seems he hasn't technically been re-assigned by Albany yet back to Kalamazoo. I'd expect it to happen before the week is over though. I think he could've done another year of junior but I guess both he and the Devils felt it was best for him to go professional now. Not to be a pessimist but I'd be surprised if the Devils organization made it the rest of the year without an injury to Brodeur, Hedberg, or Frazee. Clermont should be able to get enough ice time when all is said and done.
thefiestygoat
Interesting Albany update from Pete Dougherty. Explains why Clermont wasn't re-assigned to Kalamazoo right away and gives an injury update which should help Burlon get some playing time. Special assignment coaches Jacques Lemaire, the former Montreal, Minnesota and New Jersey head coach, and Jacques Caron have been working the A-Devils’ practices this week as the team begins a three-in-three Friday night against Norfolk.Because of the presence of Caron, a goaltending specialist, the Devils kept rookie goalie Maxime Clermont with the AHL club a few extra days before officially reassigning him today to ECHL Kalamazoo. “We wanted to make sure everybody was 100 percent healthy up top,” said Kowalsky, referring to New Jersey, “but we probably still would have done it. Kalamazoo doesn’t play until Friday, and with Jacques Caron here, we wanted to take advantage of it as much as possible. We went on the ice with a small group and just Max on Monday to get some good quality time with Jacques.”
thefiestygoat
Albany defeated Norfolk 2-1 behind goals by Gionta (Wiseman and Corrente) and Taormina (Bernier and Berube). Kinkaid stopped 24 of 25 shots earning himself the second star. Taormina was named 1st star. Corrente left the game in the 3rd, hopefully its nothing serious, he's been having a solid year. Gionta tied the Devils franchise record for goals with 52 (tied with Mike Swift). The lone goal Kinkaid gave up was on a Norfolk PP and ended his 126:57 shutout streak dating back to November 2nd against Binghamton. Burlon got into a game with Leach injured and was a +1 with 1 shot. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights. Kinkaid (G): 6 GP 5-2 363 Min 157 SV 11 GA 1.82 GAA .935 SV% Taormina (D): 14 GP 3 G 3 A 6 Pts +1 8 PIM 34 Shots Their next game is Saturday against Syracuse at 7:30. Kalamazoo lost to Trenton 4-1: Young (DNP), Sova (E, 4 Shots), Haczyk (-1, 3 Shots, Stopped on Penalty Shot), and Clermont (29 Saves on 33 Shots). Sova (D): 9 GP 2 G 0 A 2 Pts +8 8 PIM 21 Shots
thefiestygoat
Albany defeated Syracuse 1-0 behind a 20 save effort by Frazee, who was named 3rd star. Scoring for the Devils was Perkovich (PP, Anderson and Sislo) who ended up 2nd star. The Devils outshot Syracuse 37-20. Here is the gamesheet. I'll add the highlight video to this post if there is one posted later. Their next game is Sunday against Toronto at 4:00. Still no word on what Corrente's injury is from the other day but he didn't play tonight. Kalamazoo defeated Chicago 7-4: Young and Clermont did not play. Sova (3 Assists - 1 PP, +3, 1 Shot, 2nd Star) and Haczyk (Goal, +4, 4 Shots). Young hasn't seen any game action since 10/22. thefiestygoat
Is it my imagination or does Kinkaid seem to be having ridiculous success at the AHL level. He's off to a great start but it's still a small sample size: 6 GP 4-2 1.82 GAA .935 SV% 1 SO Hopefully he can have a solid rookie year. NewarkDevil5
Is it my imagination but is Albany one of the better defensive teams in the AHL? Jas0nMacIsaac
Couldn't be because of the plethora of mid to high end defensive prospects down there could it? Yea it will be interesting to see how we handle FA in the future now that we have cheap effective prospects at the AHL level.
thefiestygoat
Albany lost to Toronto 4-3 in overtime. Scoring for the Devils was Bernier (SH, Zajac), Perkovich (Wiseman and Zalewski), and Anderson (Taormina). Kinkaid stopped 31 of 35 shots in the loss. Bernier was named 3rd star. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights. Hockey Spoken Here has a solid recap of the game and other interesting notes including Albany moving into first place of the Northeast Division with their solid play lately. Their next game is Saturday against Hershey at 7:00. Note: Albany recalled forward Bryan Haczyk on loan from ECHL Kalamazoo prior to the game but he did not play. Triumph
Is it my imagination but is Albany one of the better defensive teams in the AHL? This shouldn't be that surprising. Harrold and Corrente are probably above average AHL Ds. Taormina definitely is. Urbom might be too. People like Sestito and Veilleux are probably good defensive players, too. thefiestygoat
I completely forgot about the Kalamazoo-Trenton game until now. Kalamazoo won 4-3: Sova (E, 1 Shot, 2 PIM - Interfernce), Haczyk (E, 4 Shots), and Clermont (31 Saves on 34 Shots) for the K-Wings. Banwell (-1, 1 Shot) for the Titans. thefiestygoat
Kalamazoo defeated Elmira 5-3: Sova (Goal, Assist (PP), +2, 1 Shot) and Haczyk (+1, 1 Shot, 2 PIM - Tripping). Young and Clermont did not play. I'd love for Sova to get a chance to move up to Albany but with the amount of d-men there he seems stuck in the ECHL.
