Elias Sports Bureau
It's been amazing the past few days how people have reacted. Everyone around here knows that I'm a Devils psychotic -- from people at work to the chiropractor to the post office. And everywhere I go, I get congratulated. It's wonderful and really keeps it so fresh in mind. Hope everyone's getting a similar taste.
SpeakoftheDevil(s)
Every year while the Devils are chasing the cup, I know I will inevitably hear from people I haven't heard from since the previous years playoffs. On the years we have won, it may be an old friend, an ex-girlfriend (one aspect my wife doesn't love, but tolerates.), an old collegue, or someone else I have has some positive relation with in my life. Naturally they associate the Devils with me and its often a perfect opportunity to drop a line. I must admit I love it. Of course, I also get the idiots I have known that call the minute we lost in 2001, or say in game 6 of the SCF this year when we down 3-0....they often give up after a few days, once they realize the phone has been disconnected for the next week or so. Im sure everyone here has many stories of the special treatment or recognition we get as a result of our beloved teams success...its just one of the many perks of being a fan of our team. The greatest team on Earth, the Champions of the World, The 2003 Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils.

eldon
That is funny, I am still getting congratulated 3 days later. One co-worker, Flyers fan, had to contact me for business reasons & went on a rant about how everyone puts a halo on Stevens head after he purposefully tries to decapitate another player. My simple answer to him was, "if I was a Flyer fan, I'd be bitter too". Then although he hates the Devils (duh), he congratulated me. When my wife returned to help teach a class Tuesday night & admittedly, the class is predominantly hispanic woman, not the Devils' fans' demographic, the instructor said, Let's give a big hand for Helene, her team just won the Stanley Cup, & the whole room stood & clapped. I'm not even sure most of them knew it was hockey, but it was funny anyway.
redruM
I find it pretty comical, when people congratulate me I', like" Thanks, but I really didn't do much!!!" iT IS A GREAT felling though. I'm still on cloud 9, and I donot even have my cup hat yet ( it'll be one of my father's day presents so i have to wait.....)
msweet
On Tuesday at work people were coming into my office and congratulating me over and over again. The only similiar experience I've had was when my wife had a baby.
Pepperkorn
pretty much just my parents are happy for me. Surprising my mom siad yesterday she's so happy the Devils won -- she keeps forgetting but when she remembers she's so happy for them and me! One guy at work asked if i had a voice left Tuesday morning. My Toronto friend asked that I not bother him because he's in a crappy mood he'll talk about with me later -- I'm a little more concerned about him that the hockey. This guy is hockey crazy. Fanatic Leaf fan. kind of bummed I can't gloat. I guess I'm pretty low key...what you get is what you see right here on the board -- I told you all I had no one to vent with/to! My Buffy watching friend was going to clip pictures for me but thought the better of it...Spike is fictional -- Scott Stevens is real ..it got her nervous Her reaction is more what are we going to do NOW no Buffy No hockey...TRAUMA! even my husband is too busy these days. Sucks not having any ESPN or anything on top of all that. I think it's far more preferable to have a empty victorious feeling than the empty "lost in the eighth hour" feeling of '01! aylbert
Living in Philadelphia, I dont really get any good comments... more like; you only won because we werent there... Which makes sense, we're from the same conference But they still are resentful... I dunno why they think they are better than us... but all well. Then they repeat what they hear about the devs and their boring hockey... apprantly they think Hithcock's is startling more interesting? Gotta love it here Friends from Jersey give me a little shout... and a couple of inet pals are respectfully resentful... Avs fans mostly (Who quickly is realizing where they are heading; and its not up) =)
CRASHER
Well this is the first year the family actually realized that they won it (that's a start !!).. We'll see what happens at this wedding on Saturday.... For me I'm getting from a lot of friends I hate them but you're the craziest most passionate fan I've ever seen so I'm happy for you and congratulaions (it's kinda weird to get praise on this team from Ranger and Flyers fans like that still)
westcoastdevfan
I always get comments. All my neighbors know, co-workers and family. I got plenty of congrats. I have a tendency to get other people cup crazy. I think I single-handedly raised the TV ratings. It's been alot of fun. Especially when I get to laugh at the Duck "fans." hockeygal109
I've had several co-workers congratulate me on the Devils winning--despite them not following hockey except what they get from me. My friends (all disgruntled fans of other teams) have been less forthcoming. You'd think they'd be happy for me, wouldn't you??
Elias Sports Bureau
Yes, you would. I have a lot of diehard hockey fans as co-workers -- including Flyers and Rags -- and they congratulated me. Speaking of people who know you and what they do for you, during the final round, a card dealer I get Devils cards from saw me at a show and just grabbed my arm. Seems he'd been toting around a 6-foot Marty CCM standup for a month, waiting for me to come around. Isn't that the coolest?

IAmCanadian27
A lot of my family members heard and were happy. Some people at my school just mentioned it to me when I came in with a huge smile the next day and others gave me the usual "Devils suck!" Zamode
I got alot at work--even before Game 7, I had encouragement and well wishes, even from one of the managers who is a Rag fan. Someone in my department called me before and after the game and everyone I work with said congrats, they were happy for me (especially since I was able to go) and the first thing they thought of when they watched the end of the game or heard about it was me. I had email from my aunt in Texas who was wishing them well along with her Stars' friend who I went to a game with when I was there. An email friend from Colorado sent congrats as well as a former coworker who just moved to SC--she called me at 6:45 a.m. My boss who is on medical leave called. The big boss already okayed me to leave early for the parade and made mention of me by name via company email to the buyer who is getting the Cup DVD. I done good! HockeyMom was exceptionally helpful...she picked up a lockerroom shirt for me...THANK YOU...nothing out here...closest Modells is in Watchung...no can drive and shop that far yet...ahhhh a shirt...HM, me and Becca can look like triplets
NJayDevil
Actually all my friends that are Rags/Flyer fans have congratulated me. My ex gf, big time Flyer fan, IMs me and says "I know good hockey when I see it and the Devs played good hockey in Game 7, congrats on winning." Zamode
Cheerios from the Cup, Nieds? Don't get people rolling, we'll have a fantasy thread going about the Cup and I don't think we all want to read what might be written!

David Puddy
I played roller hockey the day after and went in with my champions hat on. People asked about it and I'd say, "yeah, but the best part about it is where I got it... AT THE GAME!" (which is a lie, but I thought it was a cool way of saying I was at the game). Everyone was pretty jealous, even the Rag fans.
